Sabbath 9/8/18 Alfred Station NY Seventh Day Baptist, Pastor Ken’s sermon “Exalt the Word of God” Psalm 119:97-100

Let us exalt the scriptures, let us exalt the Word of God. Say we believe the Word of God and say we believe the scriptures. This is what Sabbath school is all about. Who knows that…..the largest chapter in book of Psalms is Psalm 119? Who knows that…the chapter that has the most verses is the Psalm119? Who knows that…the largest chapter in the entire Bible is Psalm 119?

We are looking in our text of Psalm 119 at three things. Three people groups, three parts of God’s Word and three results that we want.

The People groups are:
  • Enemies = the scripture says God gives us a way to deal with our enemies.
  • Teachers = these people know more than us and share it with us.
  • Ancients = being old varies in respect to our own age. If you are 20 then you think people in their 40’s are aged and ancient.
The Parts of God’s Word are: commandments, precepts and testimonies.
  • Commandments = we are to do what God said to do. We are to obey God and Jesus Christ.

  • Precepts = these are the principles that we are to live by. Like….presenting your body a living sacrifice to God. This is a principle, precept to live by.

  • Testimonies = these are when people tell of God’s power in their life. If God has answered a prayer for you, raise your hand. You have just given a testimony. Testimony is a witness to what God has done for his people.
We want to be wiser than our enemies. Jesus said to love them, feed them and then we will be wiser than our enemy. Scripture says feeding them is like heaping coals of fire on their head. In biblical days, when an enemy attacked your city and came up to your city wall. The people at top of the wall would pour out coals of fire on their enemy’s head. We want to be wiser than our enemy.

Our scripture says that we can get more insight and understanding than our teachers. As you listen while your Pastor is preaching, the Holy Spirit might teach you a different message. Sometimes we can have more understanding. We get these results from the Word of God. We are to absorb the Word. Read it over and over again. Memorize it by reading it over and over again. We should know the Word of God and meditate on God’s Word. Scripture says “blessed is the man that meditates on the Word of God”.

Be obedient to the Word of God. Obedience give us understanding. When we learn the Word of God, we will exalt the Word of God. We must value the Bible. Once again, we must value the Word of God! Thank God He gave us His Word and it is OUR responsibility to absorb it.

AMEN

Greetings,
This is not even close to the meaning .

The hot coals were a means of survival.
They heated up rocks and such and would wrap them up in their head covering to stay warm through those cold desert nights.

To heap coals on some ones head was a huge blessing. Thus blessing your enemy gets into their head or thinking.
Blessings
