Saturday 5/10/14 Pastor Jarrod sermon= Church Planting Philippians 2:1-11
Church planting is starting new churches. The essential characteristics of God that He revealed in Jesus, are what planted the first church. By acting in this way, Jesus’s ways, we can plant churches. Jesus was the ultimate church planter!
Christ’s Attitude .................. ........ Human Default
Humility .............................. selfish ambition/deceit
Form of servant ............................... form of ruler
Total obedience .................................. do what you want
Face death confidently .......................... fear death
Win by losing our soul to Jesus ...................... Lose by winning the worldly riches
If the church is to be Jesus shaped, it must be marked by Christ’s attitudes. We must know who the church exists for. The church exists for the benefit of those who are not church members. The church should be for the community of non-members. The Church that is shaped by Christ should be for the people who are not in it yet. Most churches exist for the benefit of its members. Church is not supposed to be like a private club. It is supposed to be for outsiders to come into. Some people are afraid of new churches because they think they will lose some of their congregation to them.
Jesus had a better attitude by dying for everybody and being a servant so he could reach people outside of his disciples. Jesus said if his flock was missing one sheep, he would leave the 99 sheep and look for the one lost sheep. We should be agents to get people that are on the outside to come into the church. Jesus left Heaven to come down here to be among us. He came to be in action mode among the people. We should not wait until they come to us but we should go out to them. The action is to go out into the world to get some souls! Instead of waiting for them, we should do like Jesus did. We should welcome outsiders into our midst.
Thank God He didn’t wait for us to figure out salvation for ourselves! Instead He sent Jesus who became human like us to teach us the way. We need to go out among the sinners and teach Jesus so they will come into the flock. We who have been blessed by God need to be like Jesus and tell people of the blessings of God. Tell them that the only way is Jesus Christ, the Son of God!
