We went to the Port Orchard, WA farmer's market today. I bought honey and soap. Tomorrow we're going to the Chimacum farmer's market.![]()
The red velvet thing.... I guess I am missing out because I am more of a caramel girl than a chocolate girl. They are sooooo good......hence the name.
BTW, All this talk of farmer's markets and this reminded me of the Mennonite women who are often selling baked goods at these markets, and around here they always have whoopie pies, as they are heavenly treats. But that made me realize that many around the world here may not know what they are or call them by a different name. Basically, they are two soft baked dark chocolate cookies with marshmallow/vanilla icing sandwiched between, and you buy them with plastic wrap on each one. There are different varieties now, as some put peanut butter icing in, or change up everything and make them with pumpkin cookies with cream cheese filling. My favorite is red velvet whoopie pies with vanilla frosting inside.
Red velvet version: They are sooooo good......hence the name.
The cookie part is more like cake than cookie. Therefore, when you eat them your hands get messy. I guess they are really cake sandwiches.View attachment 13034View attachment 13035
These delicious looking cookies remind me of Scooter Pies when I was in grade school.

That looked so good, I had to look up what it was. Now I'm hungry at bedtime!
Never thought about using it for breakfast with eggs and hash browns. Have to try that sometime. I tear it up and put it on pizza sometimes. When I was a kid, I would go throw ball against a brick wall outside to practice my pitching, and I would often grab a slice or two of the Lebanon beef bologna and fold it up and shove it between my cheek and gum as if it were chewing tobacco. That flavor lasted a long time.YUP - Beef sausage with no pork. Love it and it makes a good sammitch for lunch with cheddar cheese. Y'all can also put a slice on a plate and put a nice fried egg over it with a side of hash browns.
