Jesus Christ was without a doubt the greatest preacher who ever preached.
He knew exactly what to say, and when to say it. He knew how to say what needed to be said. He always used the perfect illustrations. No one even comes close to the Lord Jesus in giving out the Word of God.
Then in Luke 13:1-10 He gives IMHO the "Greatest Sermon Ever Preached."
Luke 13:1-10
"There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And he answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. And he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?’ And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down. Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath."
The crowd He was speaking to was the religious crowd, the church crowd. This self righteous bunch had said that the reason the 18 people died was because they were such great sinners, so God judged them because of their wickedness.
Then in no certain terms, in plain understandable language, looking them directly in the eye, said unto them....
"UNLESS YOU REPENT YOU SHALL LIKEWISE PERISH"!
There is not another more truthful saying in all of the Bible. Except the sinner repents, he will never see the kingdom of God. There is no such thing as salvation apart from true heart felt repentance. Repentance is Godly sorrow for our sin. It is turning an about face on sin and turning toward the face of God!
INHO, and without a shadow of doubt, if Jesus Christ stepped into a church this weekend and preached a sermon, His introduction would be, "EXCEPT YOU REPENT YOU WILL LIKEWISE PERISH"!
That my dear internet friends, that is not popular preaching today. The popular the intellectuals, the polished sophisticated religionists of today want to here a social gospel of self motivation centered on self esteem and self improvement.

"Men go to hell when they lose their self esteem". Really????
The greatest preacher to ever live said that men go to hell when they do not accept the Son of God for the remission of their sins. Jesus said to us all that the only way that we can feel good about ourselves is to repent of our sins and come to Christ.
The self motivational preachers of today's liberal churches tell us that repentance is feeling bad about ourselves and that process lowers our self esteem. NO friends it is not!!!! It is the act of taking responsibility for our sins. The Bible does not tell us one single time that we go into a state of depression or feel bad about ourselves when we repent. NOT ONE TIME!
Jesus taught us that repentance is a change of thought concerning SIN which results in a sense of Godly sorrow. Godly sorrow then leads to a changed life where one has Christ living in them and HE is then the hope of glory!!!
I hope that this short comment will be a blessing to someone out there today.
