'I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance:
but He that cometh after me is mightier than I,
whose shoes I am not worthy to bear:
He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, ... '
(Mat 3:11a)
Hello there,
During the gospels - 1 baptism - (baptism in water)
During the Acts - 2 baptisms - (baptism in water and baptism by the Spirit)
Following the Acts period - 1 baptism - (baptism by the Spirit)
* Baptism with water unto repentance was a requirement for Israel.
and those during the Acts period who were joined to the Olive tree of Israel.
(Ephesians 4:1-6)
'I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord,
beseech you that ye walk worthy
of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
With all lowliness and meekness,
with longsuffering,
forbearing one another in love;
Endeavouring to keep
the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
There is -
one body, and
one Spirit, even as ye are called in
one hope of your calling;
One Lord,
one faith,
one baptism,
One God and Father of all,
Who is above all,
and through all,
and in you all.
This is the unity of the Spirit, which God desires that we keep.
To continue to enact water baptism, for whatever reason,
is to walk contrary to God's will and purpose.
