PRIEST

`Thus says the Lord God: “You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering: the sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes were prepared for you on the day you were created.”

“You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, till iniquity was found in you.” (Ezekiel 28: 12 – 15)
As with the Isaiah 14 text, some of the descriptions in Ezekiel 28:11–19 go beyond any mere human king.

It does not seem to me that an earthly king claim to be “in Eden” or to be “the anointed cherub who covers” or to be “on the holy mountain of God.”

Therefore, most Bible interpreters believe that Ezekiel 28:11–19 is a dual prophecy, comparing the pride of the king of Tyre to the pride of Satan. Then when we do a little more in depth study using context, we see that some propose that the king of Tyre was actually possessed by Satan, making the link between the two even more powerful and applicable.

Now, again as we dig deeper we see that the Protestant Reformers Luther and Calvin acknowledged that Lucifer was not a priest in heaven.

Luther wrote: 12. "How you are fallen from heaven, Lucifer! This is not said of the angel who once was thrown out of heaven but of the king of Babylon, and it is figurative language."

Marylin, as far as I can determine, the Bible teaches us that Lucifer was a "guardian" in heaven. Before God cast him out, he was serving the most high God. As a Cherub, he had a high rank and an important role, but with a careful reading of the text we can clearly see that the words "PRIEST " is not there or is it even suggested. WHY!!!!

Hebrews 4:14.......
"Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession."

IF...IF Lucifer was ever a King Priest in heaven, before he fell because of sin, then Christ.....THE CREATOR of Lucifer would then become God the Fathers Second choice as the great Priest King of heaven!

Think about it my dear sister!

With all christian love and respect.

I will be glad to do that as long is it does not become an argument.

First of all I would say that while these verses are talking about the king of Babylon.

Then, many interpreters, including some early church fathers, saw a secondary reference to Satan’s fall from heaven and I am not argueing that interpretation here.

Actually, when we do the study on this that you asked for, we understand that this view is the basis for John Milton’s famous confrontation between Satan and God in "Paradise Lost". In this interpretation, “I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High” also represents Satan’s ambition to overthrow God. Assuming a secondary reference to Satan in this text.

I believe that when we do the study we can see that In the context of Is. 14, being “like the Most High” does not mean “being like God in character or attitude” and actually there is NO interpretation in the Hebrew that suggests "King Priest". IMHO, that is your determined opinion which is totaly your choice to do so.
Good to discuss God`s word together.

And glad you are not arguing about `Satan`s fall from heaven.`

Now let`s look at the word `throne,` for Lucifer said - "I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;.." (Isa. 14: 13)

In Colossians we are told that the Lord created thrones.

`For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.` (Col. 1: 16)

Throughout God`s word we see that king`s had a throne, a stately seat implying power. Thus, Lucifer held a position of power, a throne, which was forfeited when he was cast out of heaven.

We agree that the description in Ezekiel 28: 11 - 19 is beyond a human king. Also, that Satan possessed or influenced the king of Tyre.

As with `thrones,` it was the Lord who created those positions of power and He created them for Himself.

`For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.` (Col. 1: 16)

Lucifer and man are only given those positions of power UNDER the Lord Himself. There is no scripture that says it was the Father`s second choice as you suggest.

As to being a priest on the throne, we see the description of Lucifer in Ez. 28 as, High priest. He was given the precious gemstones indicating the High Priest`s breastplate. He was the anointed cherub, the one who prayed and blessed on the holy mountain. These are all activities of the Priest.

We don`t have to have the word `priest,` to know Lucifer was, just as we don`t have to have the word `Trinity` to know the Godhead.

"Lucifer and man are only given those positions of power UNDER the Lord Himself. There is no scripture that says it was the Father`s second choice as you suggest."

That suggestion was made because "YOU" stated that Lucifer was a King Priest" in heaven. A Priest is an intersessor and IF he was as you stated a Priest, then what I said was that Jesus would then be the second choice as the intersessor in heaven as Lucifer sinned and was removed.

You said.......

Exactly my point. When there is NO direct, specific wording in theology to validate a point, then it become the truth that comes from "Implied Truth." That is how we understand the Trinity. The Trinity in IMPLIED from Genesis to the Revelation.

I am in no why going out of my way to argue your opinion. I am only saying to you that the idea of Lucifer being the King Priest is NOT Implied in Scripture as you have stated.

Absolutly sister.

Lucifers fall from heaven is Biblical and literal so there is no argument. The ONLY thing I am questioning is the opinion you have that he was a "King Priest" in heaven before he fell.

I think that we must be very careful in that we do not make a doctrine out of an obscure event.

It is well known that The authority and power of kings in this era when Isaiah wrote was so absolute that some thought them to be gods. Some of these kings also believed this to be true about themselves. Babylon's admittedly powerful king had the audacity to tell himself he would reach the "heights of heaven." He declared he would even be above the stars of God.

This arrogance is part of why some readers associate this passage with Satan's fall from heaven. This is where we must be very careful.

This human, Babylonian king declared in his heart that he would "sit on the throne of assembly in the far reaches of the north."

Isaiah appears to be using the mythology and religion of the Canaanite peoples to describe the king's ambition for godhood. They held that Baal and the other gods assembled on the real Mount Zaphon in the north. Mount Casius in Syria is likely this mountain in our modern map. In this song, Isaiah shows the king assuming that he will take his place among the gods when the time comes. In truth, the king's destination will be Sheol, along with the rest of the merely human dead.

Now why do some believe that this Scripture is focused on Satan?????

The chief reason is found in the New Testament, a statement from Jesus in Luke 10:18:......
"And he said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven."

This is the origination of the idea that Lucifer fell from heaven. Before the Scripture in Luke, there is NO Biblical support in the Old Test.

Sourse....."Gary V. Smith, Isaiah 1-39 (New American Commentary, 15; B & H Publishing, 2007), p. 314 n. 94. "

After nicely explaining the meaning of the Hebrew terms, Professor Smith goes on to claim that......
"The Early Church Fathers Tertullian and Gregory the Great were the ones who connected the fall of Satan from heaven like lightning in Luke 10:18 with Isa 14:12, thus developing the unfounded view that 14:12 describes the fall of Satan."

I am only giving you something to "study and pray" over. You my dear sister must allow the Scriptures to speak to you so as to establish a true understanding of the Word of God. I am only trying to give you something to consider.

By the abundance of your trading you became filled with violence within, and you sinned; therefore I cast you as a profane thing out of the mountain of God; and I destroyed you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the fiery stones.` (Ez. 28: 13 - 16)

Hi Major,

Such good advice -I am only giving you something to "study and pray" over. You my dear sister must allow the Scriptures to speak to you so as to establish a true understanding of the Word of God. I am only trying to give you something to consider.

I would also encourage you to do the same and not get caught up with `mythology, other religions, Early Church Fathers` etc etc.

Marilyn like Major I was a little taken aback upon first reading your claims of Lucifer being a king and a priest. But upon closer scrutiny lucifer is certainly given those attributes of having a spiritual seat or physical seat as mentioned in Revelations. Christ does declare that IMG_8472.jpegIn scripture Satan is also mentioned as the God of this world. Which certainly gives him king like and priest like attributes as well. Considering the many sacrifices given in the pagan world throughout history be that human or animal sacrifice and praise to other gods to whom Satan be the chief architect. Just as lucifer be the chief architect and progenitor with the double meaning applied to himself and the of Babylonian king in Isaiah. IMG_8468.jpegIt be just a matter of when and where Lucifer laid claim to these attributes as a king and a priest along with laying claim of equality or above God himself IMG_8475.jpeg Yes there be many in modern academia that challenge the word name lucifer because it be from latin. And the very reason that they have taken it upon themselves to change or even fully delete the name. At least with many modern translations. Are they to be trusted? Seems many from modern academia would like to delete a whole lot more of our Bible than just Lucifer given the opportunity. Marilyn thank you for insight a most interesting perspective. 🙋🏻‍♀️Priim IMG_8476.jpeg

Hi Prim,

I was going to PM you and thank you for your encouragement. I also see that you are from Australia too.

I`m glad you persevered and really checked out this topic. I appreciate the pictures and scriptures you have posted.

Tomorrow I will post the difference between Lucifer`s kingpriest, symbolized by 9 gem stones and the Lord`s 12 gem stones, and what that all means. Always good to study God`s word which brings out so much about our precious Lord.

Marilyn yes me did read from a different post you be from Australia. You be the Victorian one and me from Queensland. As I said I find nothing exaggerated in your claims about Lucifer being a priest and a king as mentioned in my prior post. Only the when and where . As Gods people we are also called kings and priests unto God from that we glean the priesthood does not solely play a sacrificial function but other functions also IMG_8473.jpegI’m sure those who are committed to their Master Satan are also just as committed on their thoughts on how they view themselves and their Master as king, priest and god as well. After all you also have the counterfeit trinity mentioned in revelations as well the false Prophet the Antichrist and the very Devil himself . It should not surprise us that king and priest would be in that list of attributes to Lucifer as well. After all lucifer has always been very big on temples and sacrifices throughout the world until this very day. Unlike we who not need anymore for Christ be the temple and we his people be the temple of the God.

Thank you for such good advice.

You by now should realize that I am a Bible Literalist.

Good point.

Again, and I realize that we are doing circular reasoning here, but there is NO Bible Scripture which says that Lucifer was a "King Prist".

In fact, the name "Lucifer" is not specifically found at all in the Bible. Helel ben Shachar in the original Hebrew means......"Morning star, son of the dawn" .

This phrase is translated to “Lucifer” in Latin translations of the Bible.

We know that the High Priest in Israel wore a priestly garment with the robe of the ephod, for their office and authority. Then joined to this robe is the `breastplate of judgment.`

Judgment - Heb. `mishpat,` meaning judgment, divine law, rulership.
1726966209667.png

This breastplate of the High priest in Israel represents the Lord`s pure character.

`..in the midst of the seven golden lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothes with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band.` (Rev. 1: 13)

The long garment is as the priests wore, symbolic of holiness, yet Christ`s very character is holy and without spot. And the golden girdle was worn by the High Priest to indicate his high office and authority, but Christ, the eternal High Priest, ever lives to intercede, giving eternal blessings.

On this breastplate were 12 precious stones representing the 12 tribes of Israel. These in turn reveal something of the Lord – His character and His offices.

The Precious Stones - Christ`s Rulership.

The foundations of the walls are adorned with all kinds of precious stones. These were on the priest`s breastplate and represent Christ`s rulership. (Ex. 28: 15 – 21)

Judgment – Heb. `mishpat,` meaning judgment, divine law, rulership.

`And the foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the 1st foundation was the jasper, the 2nd sapphire, the 3rd chalcedony, the 4th emerald, the 5th sardonyx, the 6th sardius, the 7th chrysolite, the 8th beryl, the 9th topaz, the 10th chrysoprase, the 11th jacinth, & the 12th amethyst.` (Rev. 21: 19 & 20)

Christ the Conqueror.

1.Jasper – Naphtali - `Conqueror.`

2.Sapphire – Simeon – `voice of God.`

3.Chalcedony – Zebulon - `dwelling.`

Christ the conqueror, is the voice of God dwelling with His people.

Christ the KingPriest.

4.Emerald – Reuben - `first born, Heir.`

5.Sardonyx – Asher - `blessing, Priest.`

6.Sardius – Judah - `King, ruler.`

Christ the first born and heir rules as KingPriest giving spiritual blessings.

Christ the Judge.

7.Chrysolite – Gad - `administers judgments with justice.`

8.Beryl – Dan. - `Judge.`

9.Topaz – Issachar - `wisdom.`

Christ the wise Judge who administers judgments with justice.

Christ at the Father`s Right Hand.

10. Chrysoprase – Manassah –`forgiveness`

11. Jacinth – Ephraim - `doubly fruitful.`

12. Amethyst – Benjamin - `At the right hand of the Father.`

Christ at the Father`s right hand gives forgiveness & blessing.

(The Stones – Ex: 28: 17 – 21, The Tribes – Num. 10: 14 – 27,

The Meanings – Gen. 29: 32, 30: 1 – 24, 35: 18)

However before ever there were priest`s on the earth, Lucifer was given this holy office of priest before God`s throne. He was to bring the worship of the angels to God, to cover God`s holy presence and to walk in the midst of the fiery stones on God`s holy mountain.

We note that there are only 9 gemstones as Lucifer`s covering.

`…the sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold…` (Ez.28: 13)

So, what is the difference between the Lord as High Priest with 12 gemstones, and Lucifer as High Priest with 9 gemstones. The last 3 gemstones are quite revealing.

Christ at the Father`s Right Hand.

10. Chrysoprase – Manassah –`forgiveness`
11. Jacinth – Ephraim - `doubly fruitful.`
12. Amethyst – Benjamin - `At the right hand of the Father.`

Christ at the Father`s right hand gives forgiveness and fruitfulness.

Thus, we realise that the Lord`s office as King priest is much greater than Lucifer`s was. Only the Lord was named `son of my right hand,` by the Father, and only He can give forgiveness and is doubly fruitful.

Some interesting details.

When Benjamin was born, Rachael, his mother was dying. She named her son `Ben-Oni, son of my sorrow. However, the father, Jacob named his son, Benjamin, (son of my right hand) (Gen. 35: 18). We can see these two names representing the Lord – man of sorrows, and at the right hand of the Father. (Isa. 53: 3. Heb. 1: 3)

Joseph`s sons – Manassah and Ephraim are represented also.

Manassah – his name means to forget. God chooses to `forget,` our sins.

`As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.` (Ps. 103: 12)

Because of Jesus` sacrifice God chooses to not only `forget` our sins but to forgive us of them.

Ephraim – his name means doubly fruitful. God told man to be fruitful and multiply. The Lord Himself is doubly fruitful with sons in the Body of Christ and also of Israel.

Upon Ephraim was bestowed the blessing of the firstborn, the double portion.

Thus, we can see the difference between Lucifer`s priesthood and the Lord`s priesthood.

Lucifer only brought the worship of the angels to God. He did not intercede as there was no sin or sinners at that time. However, when Lucifer sinned and was cast out he forfeited his priesthood. However, he still desires to be worshipped.

The Lord Jesus Christ on the other hand is the High priest who does intercede for sinners before the throne of God.

`He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore, He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens;…` (Heb. 7: 24 – 26)

Good point.

Major when you write of circular reasoning to Marilyn and say that there be no scripture that claims that lucifer is a king or a priest. Than what is Jesus talking about in John 12:31 and John 14:30 the Devil lucifer as prince I do believe IMG_8480.jpegIMG_8481.jpegfurther more when looking looking upon the temptation of Christ Satan did did take our lord up yonder to look upon all the kingdoms of the world . Bow down and worship me was Satan’s offer and I will give you all the kingdoms of the world. No underling could ever exert that kind of authority or power. None other than a King could offer that. IMG_8478.jpeg We also come across other references of other entities under lucifers command such as Daniel 10:13 with the prince of Persia withholding Michael the chief prince for 21 days IMG_8483.jpegAnd what of Apollyon being mention as a king in Revelation 9:11 king over a plague of locust looking like demons. They be lucifers minions how much more does that make lucifer a chief king.IMG_8482.jpegMajor when we look upon the evidence of Marilyn’s claim of lucifer being a priest there certainly be circumstantial evidence from Ezekiel 28 with lucifers make up of precious stones of tabrets and pipes that he certainly played some function of praise whether as a priestly function is not clearly known but very much a possibility. But one thing is for certain that since his demise. He now lays claim to that priestly caste. That is self evident. We only have to look at all the false religions that have befallen humanity for the past 7000 yrs. Satan be behind them all from the mystery religions, Hinduism Buddhism to the many false religions mentioned in the Bible. Satan be the high priest of them all. Just as he shall make his bid for the future Antichrist temple in Jerusalem that all praise shall be given to him. He certainly now does lay claim to all the attributes of a priest. A counterfeit one IMG_4094.jpegMajor you mention Isaiah 14:12 with Lucifer being in Latin. It being interpreted from the Greek Old Testament from the Greek word EOSPHOUS which means light bearer. The Latin means exactly the same Lucifer ( Lucis and Ferre ) meaning light bearer. Who was it that translated the Hebrew Old Testament and the word Heylel into Greek ? The Jews of course. I’m sure they knew what they were writing. In Greek it meant light bearer in Latin exactly the same. You think it does not deserve to be there because it be in Latin ? You’ll have to explain some more on that

I could see from the beginning that this discussion would lead us down a rabbit hole.

The only way out is to focus on Christ and the Gospel.
And Jesus came and said to them,
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. ( Matth. 28v18)
Jesus has now all authority in heaven and on earth. That's what matters most

May you come to a deeper understanding of the Gospel and focus more on Christ !
