I feel hopeless. what should we do?
No. Our reaction to that should be to say that we now see opportunity. This is a great time to live in, because when it's the darkest, that's when the contrast of light shines the brightest to those in that darkness. This is our time to shine the Light of Christ to a very dark world that is cold, hungry and naked.

But I get John's message. He goes on to apply his apologetics that the duty of the pastor is to guard and fight for the truth, and to protect his flock from the bewitched. AMEN! But there is much work ahead.
It's a continual spiritual battle for all Christians including the pulpit and pew. The opportunity is there for us to see the darkness but how to apply the light through the gospel.

Bob, you are so right, in that it's a battle, and the fierceness of it will get to the point that the Lord will call us up to Him so that He can then begin His final plans for pouring out His wrath upon the world of the wicked, and against the nation Israel, so that they will finally see and understand their need for Him all along.

The parable of the sower teaches that "professers" can be distracted and drawn away from their profession by influences designed for that purpose by the devil. Believers must be on guard to watch and make certain of their election.
