Those pesky pigeons
I went out into the garden to feed the birds
specially prepared suet pellets to help supplement their diet on this cold winters morn,
Those pesky pigeons
got in first.
the blessing of the bird food was not meant for them!
I chased them away again and again
Longing for my favourites to appear,
The robin ,
The blackbirds
Little bluetits and the ones with long black and white tails.
I can hear the chatter of
the sparrows in the hedge
Waiting for their turn ,
to come gleaning what was left
when the pigeons were chased off…
But them pesky pigeons
they kept coming back .
Now the jackdaws are congregating on the fence and garage roof,
Big enough to barge in and send the pigeons packing,
But sit expectingly, waiting for their turn,
And while I’m on the subject
That naughty squirrel is swinging from the fat balls
I didn’t put them out to feed you.
That blessing is just for the birds
Not you!
But as I sat with my coffee watching my favourite robin singing from a high branch,
It seems to be telling me,
We’re all Gods creation
Come to your garden to be blessed.
We don’t mind the pigeons
Having their fill first,
Why don’t you bless them with sufficient for their daily need?
Then it will be our turn for the blessing you so kindly share.
Then all the other birds will greatfully swoop in!
We’ll dart about and chatter
Some on the ground, some prefer the flower baskets others the bird table
others glad just to feed where the food lands.
We’ll sing out our love song
To the One, who created heaven and earth,
We’ll be back later
to see if there are any crumbs of blessing left that fell to earth
When we glean the ground
To you it may only be fat balls and bird food
but to us it’s the difference between life and death.
Good job God is not biased when sharing His blessings out.
Salvation is for ‘whosoever comes to His holy ground.
So for now the pigeons have flown off having had their fill,
I’m replenishing the feed stations and sit back with my coffee and watch.
Watch the wonders of creation
Played out in my back garden,
Blessing all that come to feed
From the bountiful sufficiency
God has given me!
