Acts 28 : 23 -27

23They arranged to meet Paul on a certain day, and came in even larger numbers to the place where he was staying. From morning till evening he explained and declared to them the kingdom of God and tried to convince them about Jesus from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets. 24Some were convinced by what he said, but others would not believe. 25They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: "The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your forefathers when he said through Isaiah the prophet:
26" 'Go to this people and say,
"You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving."
27For this people's heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them

When we think , thousands of years ago ; people have not changed … They still had the same struggles , problems and difficulties that we have today .

When Paul preached some were convinced of the gospel and others hardened their hearts .

Isaiah prophesied about the same thing long before the New Testament was written Isaiah 6: 9- 10 .

Paul said people’s hearts have become calloused … verse 27 and in this day and age of so much evil we are definitely seeing the same scenario .

That is again why it is so important and I cannot stress it enough ; that we are into the Word daily and not just use the Bible as another book on the table to dust . The Bible is the living Word of God .

We have 2 sets of ears, our outer ears and the ears of our spirit. Many only hear with their natural ears but don't understand because they don't hear with their spiritual ears. We need to be open to the Spirit of God to receive revelation from Him.



Revelation 3:22He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches


Mark 4:12So that seeing they may see, and it will not be clear to them; and hearing it, they will not get the sense; for fear that they may be turned again to me and have forgiveness.

2 Timothy 3:7Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth
 
I think seeing the scripture references being used, this goes without saying, but without God opening our eyes and ears to His truth the bible is just another book . Since we have the mind of Christ, it is important to use it: Our lives then read like an epistle written on the table of the human heart . And our understanding of the words long written down . will be fresh, relevant and applicatory today and therefore alive . as it was meant to be .

That is so true! I often ask people when I'm telling them about God if they're open to God revealing Himeslf. They say that God hasn't done this or that, but how would you know if you're not open to seeing it? How would you know if He answers your prayers or talks to you if your ears aren't open to hear? That's like saying you want to see a light bulb come on while covering your eyes, or hear a bird sing while covering your ears. It's that ludicrous.

Thanks GodSpeaks . That is so true . There are many who hear , but it does not go any further . God has given us the Holy Spirit to open our hearing and absorb the Word in our hearts.

Exactly . But you see there are many who just want to hear what they want to hear and want to hear things that tickle their ears . Just like Paul says , they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts . They need to let the Holy Spirit work in their lives and ask for a fresh infillling that their spiritual ears can hear . But for some they just want to remain on the outside looking in and never experinces the fullness of the gospel .

Why is that do you think ? Is is out of fear or ignorance ?

That is right as some people like to have the Bible sitting on the table and like I said dust it once in a while but never pick it up . How can we have the mind of Christ if we do not read His Word and get to know Him in a personal way . ?
 
Yeah Dusty, i look at the past when i've read the bible with my own mind and without prayer without intimate communion with the Holy Spirit .. at those moments it was just a book also . to the carnal mind the spiritual things are incomprehensible .

Mark 4:23

23If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear."

Jesus often used this phrase . He wanted people to hear with their spiritual ears the parables that He was talking about.
 
Back to the passage ... Paul quotes Isaiah in this passage. He quotes the verses where God tells Isaiah to bring his message to the Israelites that they have closed their hearts to God and no longer have ears to hear.

Paul then says that because they don't have ears to hear and are too busy quarreling among themselves to see the truth of Christ that the Gentiles will hear and believe the message of salvation through Christ.
 
2 Timothy 4:3

3For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

Exactly what we were talking about ... " itching ears" ... or as we say today ears to be tickled . I guess that bids the question ; are our ears open to hear God's voice ? Even if it is something that we don't like to hear .... spiritually , do we heed or do we just pass it by ?

Because this my friends , is where the world is at , not wanting to hear but wanting a feel good message . This my brothers and sisters is the last days .

And when we do hear it, if we don't be a doer of what we heard and are just a hearer only, then we deceive ourselves and it didn't do us any good. That's the whole reason we are to hear Him, so we can do what we hear.

When people do hear God's voice but do not want to do what God is dealing with them about, they harden their heart and go their own way. That's a dangerous place to be. If they continue they are becoming desensitized to His voice and one day will not be able to hear.

Also when Israel was in the wilderness they hardened their hearts and continued in unbelief even tho they saw His miracles. Pharoah did the same thing when he saw the miracles. He hardend his heart by his unbelief
