The links you posted made me really nostalgic, Jon! What instrument do you play? My family is French Canadian, and my grandfather is a violin maker by trade. I spent much of my childhood in kitchens packed with slightly inebriated Frenchmen with instruments stumbling jovially through jigs and reels late into the night.
I mostly play GDAE frets (mandolin, tenor banjo, etc.). I could probably still get some slower morris dance tunes out of D/G melodeon and dabble with guitar occasionally. I sometimes wish I'd been born into the sort of musical tradition you were.
PS. Thanks for the song. I enjoyed it. Sort of reminds me of a holiday we had in Scotland (and I can think of a few places in Wales where I once lived too) where the midges get you.
