'And I will pour upon the house of David,
and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
the spirit of grace and of supplications:
and they shall look upon Me whom they have pierced,
and they shall mourn for Him,
as one mourneth for his only son,
and shall be in bitterness for Him,
as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.'
(Zechariah 12:10)
Look at the words, 'I', 'Me', 'My', and 'Him'.
God is speaking through Jeremiah here, but do you see in the words referring to God's People Israel, 'they shall look upon Me whom they have pierced', that God identifies Himself as, 'God manifest in the flesh', in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who was the One pierced! Also, then the use of the word, 'Him', when Israel mourns for the One Whom they pierced, in the past tense, which to my mind brings a sense of detachment, as though referring to a former role now fulfilled, by the One God, Who is both Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
* How great is our God! How worthy of all our praise! For He has accomplished all things, it is He that has redeemed us, and He Who keeps us, by His grace.
