weeding material?

Wow, this forum has everything!
My garden did not take off this year and was terribly hard to weed. Does anyone know what the plastic stuff is called that people put down to make gardening easier? It prevents the weeds from growing and just lets the plants themselves poke out. I assume it's more than just plastic tarp and I'd like to get some so I'm prepared for next season. Thanks!
 
I don't know that name of the stuff but if you go to a garden center they would be able to tell as I have seen it there but did not pay too much attention.
 
It's called visqueen, but I wouldn't waste my money on that if I were you.

Just use straw. Once your plants are several inches tall, cover everything that isn't food with straw. :)
