What Happens When Christians Forget?

What do we do when we are taught how to live the Christian life, things are going great, and then one day we make a foolish mistake, fall into sin or things happen that make us fall out of line of Christ's teachings?

This is a question commonly asked of a new believer. How do we get back on track in our new faith?

Or, for seasoned believers who are shocked in the way they handled a circumstance and reacting the opposite of what we studied in Scriptures?

All of us have been there and chances are we'll come across another trial that challenges our faith.

The disciples went through the same experience and Jesus had to remind them over and over what He taught them. But He also promised Ways they would be reminded. Later His apostles would remember as they wrote the New Testament.

In Acts 4:1-20 what would have happened if two of the Apostles didn't remember. Who was there to help them?

No trick questions. Let's discuss and share with everyone.

God bless you all.

We acknowledge, make amends, and forgive. This follows the biblical pattern of contrition and grace.

Peter promised to never turn his back on Jesus, yet he did exactly that thrice before the rooster crowed. Jesus told him exactly this would happen as way of saying, 'I forgive you'. Peter, distraught, remembered and was forgiven.

So it is with us. We promise. We fall short. God, who sees all, knows we will fail yet forgives us. It's upon us to remember, pick ourselves up, and carry onward.

This, I believe, is the importance of seeing our forgiveness in Christ, as we do, we won't be so hard on ourselves or others, keeping this in mind...
Luke 7:47 ASV
Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

1john 1:9 and we have a advocate 2 they need to know this i stress this i use this every day... get back on track same way you fell off. .only get back on track keep going strait what did he say to the woman caught in adultery go and sin no more new Christians must have this told to them all the time

Our mistakes, sins and forgetfulness be ever before us. Yet God has chosen the weak and foolish things of this world to confound the wisdom’s of this world and establish his kingdom. Yet it seems through out all our failings as we rocked back and forth near a treacherous shoreline. Come the next sunrise it seems that God sees us through and starts afresh with us. Every new morning is a new beginning with God it seems. God is never forgetful unlike us it seems ❤️

When we choose to become a Christian.... what occurs at our salvation is a supernatural covenant that covers us. We become bought and paid for by the BLOOD of CHRIST.

After our salvation... we are SEEN by GOD as totally REDEEMED because of CHRIST.

Our mistakes/errors/sins are COVERED by the blood of CHRIST.

I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return]. ~Philippians 1:6

There is another scripture that states the "judging" difference between man and God.

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” ~Samuel 16:7

God will NOT lose any of His children... He knows them all by name.

I thought this was fitting in light of my second submission of scripture.

Hello forgiven;

New Christians must have this told to them all the time. I attend a Thursday morning Bible study where I'm the youngest and the eldest is 90 years old.

When the 90 year old (Korean Veteran) opened up about left over bitterness from the war, an 88 year old (life experience of sin in Switzerland) and a 78 year old who just got saved a few months ago but now realizes all the baggage of sin before she got saved;

These are interested testimonies. After all these years
each one is still growing as Christians but they still have to repent for past sins. When I share, they've already been there in life, and the responses I receive from them encourage me.

This is very humbling in our gathering. I do more listening.

If this Bible study were all 35 and 25 year olds I would probably do most of the talking.

Regardless, no matter what age as Christians we all have to reminded because we do forget. So in a way I'm relieved that God sees all.

there are probably 2 errors in this not what you say but this 1. WE don't disciple new converts . when was the last time you seen a class strictly for new converts ? 2. some get saved but have no real interest in classes ..sunday school class is the ideal time to have this.. in most every church i been in low number in sunday school many come strictly for preaching and the entertainment in the worship service . i watch several churches online i enjoy turning point and the 1st Baptist church in Atlanta GA the Charles Stanley was pastor of. , the choir is very talented the musicians are on a prof level very talented.
but to be honest i feel like i am at a Gospel concert watching them... we no longer sing any the Old hymns when was last time we seen people stand to there feet being blessed raising holy hands up towards heaven we have substituted talent for anointing when was last time we seen john Henry off the street bring his guitar and him or him and his wife sing a special

when i got saved i had sound teaching and i got a lot of good bible teaching. i also read for my self i like the old song every time i feel the spirit i will pray.. honestly i have had to study very hard and close. to learn of just how secure i am in Christ and what it takes to restore our broken fellowship. to be honest i feel the moment you cry out plz forgive me. its a done deal with our Father .. the other part is US that person in a mirror.. we have hard time forgiving our self

For a 90 year old to remember anything, let alone his/her experiences in Korea is an achievement in itself.
Hello crossnote;

As the late Don Rickles once said (pointing to his brain) "as long as we still have this, the possibilities in life are limitless."
I know Don's career as a comedian was aggressive in insult comedy, but it was his later years that I saw a side of him that was a kind and sensitive human being.

The 90 year old's name is Bob. From where he sits in the Bible study, he is quiet, has hearing aids and a cane for walking. But from the other side of our big table, I see a gentleman who's still sharp and takes more than one walk a day.

New Christians must have this told to them all the time.
Hi Forgiven... I am somewhat confused with your writing. YOU quoted the above as coming from Bob... but they are YOUR original words which he re-quoted.

there are probably 2 errors in this not what you say but this

You then went on to state that you disagree with them.???? I'm not sure what you are trying to state... but this is what I have gleaned from your posts.

You seem to be experiencing a lament that church music has changed from old hymns to more modern Worship music.

I have personally been to a few churches that had an amazing and talented Worship team... who OFFERED their gifts to the church as an invitation to Worship CORPORATELY. I remember clearly going to the altar and raising my hands in absolute HONOUR to our WONDERFUL Saviour. This type of Worship is different than standing in a pew and singing old time hymns. I don't think one manner of Worship can be compared to the other. THEY both have their place... and they both have a voice.

One form of style is NOT preferred by God. If music can bring you to the FOOT of the CROSS...with a heart filled with GRATITUDE and PRAISE... then it is GOOD and PLEASING to the LORD.

I have heard stories of churches actually FIGHTING over the music that is to be presented... and some people actually leaving congregations that dared to modernize their songs.

When I got saved... I did NOT have sound teaching... and GOD still showed up to redeem me... heal me and breath HIS LIFE into my LUNGS. A new believer will make many mistakes... and I agree that we need to be teaching the babes SOUND doctrine... but I have also experienced those CHRISTIANS who poke their noses in places where it doesn't belong. WE can be far too critical of what OTHERS are doing.... and this causes A LOT of damage to the body.

God works out our sin issues... He is constantly doing work within us... and HE is FAITHFUL to finish the work HE has begun.

Thankfully... God is filled with MERCY and is very patient in our growing.

A number of old line denominational churches offer Sunday school. Sunday school was a big part of my childhood. And they offered new members class and talked with new believers after service to make sure they understood what being a Christian really means.

In my late teens early 20s, in non denominational churches, didn't offer Sunday school and very few presented the gospel. They offered Jesus and salvation but apart from the gospel message. Jesus had become a feel good remedy to make your life better.

It's all about repentance. Being a believers means we are no longer blinded to our sin; we can return to God. 1John 1:9
In post #8... I included a video of someone who has a dark past.... I myself have a very dark past... and I am not trying to undermind or excuse SIN in any way... shape or form.... but I will say this....

In my darkest days of despair... ONCE I had been a CHRISTIAN for almost 2 decades... the problem was not repenting for my sins... for I had done so ... over and over again.... without the ability to FEEL FORGIVEN.

WHAT changed for me... was the knowledge that I was UNCONDITIONALLY LOVED BY GOD. Until HE convinced me that HE loved me... there was NOTHING that could penetrate my heart.

So... I'm not saying that we should not repent... or be taught right from wrong... I'm just saying that we need to be TAUGHT what the scripture states about WHO WE ARE IN CHRIST.

A soul that knows it is SAFE... CHERISHED and LOVED by God is the soul that will bring forth LIGHT to dark places.
