what is your go to Study Bible?

Blueletterbible allows me to do a lot of that online. I also like my IVP Bible Background Commentary that gives a cultural background surrounding particular verses.

Don't have one. Understanding Cultural backgrounds is very helpful and handy to understand.

My teacher always been really helpful in teaching the background histories, along with looking to the external evidences along with internal evidences of the the new testament writings before going in and reading them, and then teaching verse by verse, sometimes interlacing what is learned from other books of the bible to validate verses and how they match up about what is being said.

Believe that is a really good and helpful way to teach, because the bible is most certainly a gift from God for us to be able to have in our hand, but was for a people long ago who done came and passed away, at least in my view of scripture, but that does not mean it doesn't have application for us in areas for where we can apply and add to our faith and trusting in God and his promises!

I have this one book: 30 Days to understanding the Bible. It is not a book about scripture, but it talks about the area where everything happened, the distances traveled, weather, currency, clothing, etc. A great deal of background for those who just have to know.

I don't have a Study Bible, I like to just read a normal Bible and I'll have a separate book to study it with.
I just find the study bibles too bulky.

You can get lots of different Bible study booklets on different topics. I find it much easier that way.

You do not have a Bible?????

You said........
"but was for a people long ago who done came and passed away, at least in my view of scripture,"

Are you telling us that you do not believe that the Bible is vaild and helpful for men today????

Hello Major,

Yes that is correct, I believe a lot of the letters where written to believers in many different areas of the earth at that time. You can notice them in many of the introductory first verses of who is writing and who it is being sent to. All of these people have passed away and are gone now. The Bible only has some application to us now and not everything in it in my view of the scripture. Reading the Bible is very helpful to spiritual growth and also growing in faith in Gods promises.

There are a lot of great study bibles out there, but I find while using one, I quickly get bogged down in the details as well as sidetracked from the focal point.
Otherwise, I do like the NET Bible and the Companion Study Bible.

The principles delineated in Scripture are universally applicable in addressing the human condition. They are timeless.
