Which Browser

IE vs Firefox

These stats are not made up either. But they may not be really accurate because I only recently started to use Google analytics and this is the latest browser report it gave me. Oh by the way, you should try this tool. Its awesome. Love the graphics.

Jeff:

I believe it. And I have google analytics and google sitemaps on some of my stuff. The reason why IE is more popular is because it comes with every Windows OS when you buy the computer and most people who own computers barely know enough about it to run programs and get on the internet. I am shocked at how many do not even have virus protection

Firefox version 2.0.0.3 is our choice here. We also HAVE TO use I.E.-7 at times to run some of the weather analysis software, but since first using Firefox a couple years ago, we have yet to have a "lockup", "blue screen of death", or an "error' report"... that I.E.-7 is famous for.

If Microsoft administration were not so arrogant, perhaps their 'image' in the computing world would be a bit better, however, with their mindset of Global Domination, they have a poor reputation... and getting worse each year. Many persons do not know that the software writers of Microsoft software, including the browser software, often include code in the program that does absolutely nothing, but are private messages back and forth to other software writers as an insider's joke. (I first saw those in Windows 95). Actually, the only 'joke' is Microsoft software...

We used to use Netscape and when that was taken over by the Mozilla Foundation and converted/updated into Firefox, we were pleasantly surprised at the outcome. Nice to see a David and Goliath situation here where a 'little guy' takes on the giant.

I'm downloading Firefox now.

Edit: I downloaded it but it won't load any webpages. I have re-installed it and I still have the same problem... Anybody else have it when they first downloaded firefox?

Go into the TOOLS tab at the top of the screen. Then hit OPTIONS.

Go through all the top headers: [Main]...[Tabs]...[Content]...[Feeds]...[Privacy]...[Security]... and [Advanced]... one at a time and make certain that the settings correspond roughly to those in Internet Explorer. DO NOT DISABLE COOKIES!!

See if that helps.

I like Firefox

I mostly use Firefox but occasionally IE7 because some websites don't work correctly in Firefox. In particular, I use WordPress for my blog and the popup box sometimes doesn't work in Firefox so when I'm editing or writing posts, I mostly use IE7.

When writing html codes, sometimes I make errors and I dont notice that on Firefox, because it seems to ignore such mistakes. IE7 follows strict coding standards and such errors in codes will not be ignored. Therefore two different results in two different browsers.
I had to reinstall and start using IE7 for this reason. Its a good thing IE keeps standards.

Just like death, I also use fire fox. I love all the add-ons you get with it. You could customise it all you want! It is also much faster for me.

I'm webmaster at work and prefer Firefox. Firefox is a compliant browser which renders web pages according to the standards. IE does not. My experience from what I've learned from others in the field is that you design a page for a compliant browser (ie Firefox) and do a workaround for the others (IE).

A variation on the 'how many ... does it take to change a light bulb' joke contains some insight and truth about Micro$oft:

How many Micro$oft engineers does it take to change a light bulb?

Answer:

None. They redefine darkness as the new standard.

Which of course reminds me of...

The Dark Sucker Theory

For years, it has been believed that electric bulbs emit light, but recent information has proved otherwise. Electric bulbs don't emit light; they suck dark. Thus, we call these bulbs Dark Suckers.

The Dark Sucker Theory and the existence of dark suckers prove that dark has mass and is heavier than light.

First, the basis of the Dark Sucker Theory is that electric bulbs suck dark. For example, take the Dark Sucker in the room you are in. There is much less dark right next to it than there is elsewhere. The larger the Dark Sucker, the greater its capacity to suck dark. Dark Suckers in the parking lot have a much greater capacity to suck dark than the ones in this room.

So with all things, Dark Suckers don't last forever. Once they are full of dark, they can no longer suck. This is proven by the dark spot on a full Dark Sucker.

A candle is a primitive Dark Sucker. A new candle has a white wick. You can see that after the first use, the wick turns black, representing all the dark that has been sucked into it. If you put a pencil next to the wick of an operating candle, it will turn black. This is because it got in the way of the dark flowing into the candle. One of the disadvantages of these primitive Dark Suckers is their limited range.

There are also portable Dark Suckers. In these, the bulbs can't handle all the dark by themselves and must be aided by a Dark Storage Unit. When the Dark Storage Unit is full, it must be either emptied or replaced before the portable Dark Sucker can operate again.

Dark has mass. When dark goes into a Dark Sucker, friction from the mass generates heat. Thus, it is not wise to touch an operating Dark Sucker. Candles present a special problem as the mass must travel into a solid wick instead of through clear glass. This generates a great amount of heat and therefore it's not wise to touch an operating candle.

Also, dark is heavier than light. If you were to swim just below the surface of the lake, you would see a lot of light. If you were to slowly swim deeper and deeper, you would notice it getting darker and darker. When you get really deep, you would be in total darkness. This is because the heavier dark sinks to the bottom of the lake and the lighter light floats at the top. The is why it is called light.

Finally, we must prove that dark is faster than light. If you were to stand in a lit room in front of a closed, dark closet, and slowly opened the closet door, you would see the light slowly enter the closet. But since dark is so fast, you would not be able to see the dark leave the closet.

Next time you see an electric bulb, remember that it is a Dark Sucker.

I only use FireFox now.

I decided a couple months ago to stop using all M$ products and start using all open source programs. I was upset at their prices and bullying business practices. Not to mention the very slow speed of their programs. Heck I used to wait for 60 seconds for M$ Outlook to open, and I have Intel Dual Core 3.20 Ghz processors.

I now use Mozilla Thunderbird instead of Outlook, Open Office instead of M$ Office and obviously FireFox to replace IE7.

I'm happy with the switch and am able to do everything I did with M$ products.
