Which Translation Do You Prefer?

I was just wondering, what is your preferred translation?

Now please understand, I am not asking which translation is best, which one you consider to be the most accurate and why. All I want to know is which one do you prefer and use most often. I have an idea for another thread and this will help me in regard to that.

I am sure like most people today you use and own more than one in order study the Scriptures and check meaning. Please feel free to post the names of those translations as well. I cannot possible include all the different translations, so if your preferred Bible is not listed do not take it to heart. Again feel free to add any translation you enjoy in a post.

As a side note, I have list both the CSB (Christian Standard Bible) and the HCSB (Holman Christian Standard Bible). For those of you who don't know the CSB is a revision of the HCSB. Exactly what the difference are I do not know.

Also note, MSG is the Message Bible.

They all possess inaccuracies because they are translations based upon the bias of the various translation committees.

Where it's true that the word of God is perfect, the holiness of God's word is not couched so much in translational accuracy as it is in the Person who inhabits His people. It is the Spirit of the Lord Who gives enlivening power to the Truth, especially given that TRUTH is a Person, not a collection of right and proper doctrines.

That is just the kind of thing I was hoping to avoid. While there is a time and a place for such a discussion this is not the place, however I would be happy to examine that issue with you outside of this context. I want people to feel comfortable to share their choices.

Nevertheless, you do use a translation, yet you did not vote. Surely you use one or more of the above translations, and given your comments, I am very much interested in your choice or choices, so please vote.

Sorry. I was expressing why I don't have a particular preference, but there are some that I do avoid, such as the transliterations.

I will reveal the ones that I utilize as a start, but want it to be understood that I then dig down into the weeds of the original languages, Hermeneutics, lingual and contextual continuities, grammatical constructs, and a myriad of other acid tests...but especially what Holy Spirit says.

There must be a flaw in the php coding, because it will not let me select the translation(s) that I use.

I use the KJV and the NKJV predominantly, along with the NAS.

For example the first phrase of John 1:1:

Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν ὁ λόγος (Greek)

En archē ēn ho logos (Transliteration - this is how the Greek letters are transcribed into English)

In the beginning was the Word (Translation into English)

I was brought up on the KJV and was trained in it but recently have started to use the ESV.
 
I lean towards the interliner end of the spectrum so I prefer the KJV as a relatively readable compromise on this preference. I also enjoy researching the occasional archaic terms or phrases and find they are a stimulus to a deeper research and then understanding of the Word, at least for me personally.

I also often read the NASB and appreciate it’s intention to be an English translation that is closer to a “word-for-word” translation of the spectrum, while still extremely accessible and readable.

Sometimes, I will cross check words or passages found in these two texts in the OJB or, on occasion, the CJB, for a deeper understanding or clarity. This sometimes helps me triangulate on a point for clarity.

For those who do not know the OJB is the Orthodox Jewish Bible, and the CJB is the Complete Jewish Bible. Both include the New and Old Testaments.
 
KJV

It seems CEV isn't on the list but thats what Bibles in Schools tended to use. I didn't like it much because memory verses were often truncated to make it simpler to memorise for children.

I think if you find a Bible that speaks to you stick to it. So I have several copies of KJV and the other ones I get given tend to collect dust! Or I give them away. I find I don't really have to use another Bible to check meaning with KJV.
 
Most of the congregations I attend use King James and I am accustomed to it's 'flavor'. I have a super giant print that I take to meetings. For much devotional purposes and some deeper study I use NASB.
I also have several electronic versions including a reverse interlinear in ESV.

Hello Origen, I have as well. In fact, I use them all, all except the paraphrase that has a title abbreviation that makes it sound like a common Chinese food additive ;)

Silliness aside, I feel very blessed to have access to all of the various translations and paraphrases that you listed for us in the OP (y)
