The Question is did the lord mean upon this rock as the corner stone that I will build my church or upon Peter as the rock I will build my Church on?
Thank you brother T Man
Matthew 16:16
16And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Matthew 16:17
17And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 16:18
18And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
The Question is did the lord mean upon my rock as the corner stone that I will build my church or upon Peter as the rock I will build my Church?
The answer is I will build my Church upon Peter why?
Matthew 16:19
19And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Our Lord and God gave the authority(keys to Heaven) on to Peter, now the Question is who did Peter give the authority (keys to Heaven) to when he died?
Who was Peter successor?
He was speaking to His disciples while Peter was the central subject.
Look at this as if you were there, Peter being pulled out of the group and standing on the right hand side of Lord Jesus as He addresses the group.
...Lord Jesus was addressing the group about Peter.(Plural terms)
The lord never pulled Peter away from the group but directly spoke to him in the midst of the group.Peter in verse 16 answered Him directly from the group and verses 17,18 and 19 Lord Jesus directly spoke to Peter whilst being in the group.
I wounder why this subject has always been controversial? Is it because if it is said that Peter is the rock that the Church of Christ is built on, does it lead to the Catholic Church being the rock?
Just an expression of directness to Peter in conjunction with the other disciples, being said in plural terms and not singular terms.Look at this as if you were there, Peter being pulled out of the group and standing on the right hand side of Lord Jesus as He addresses the group.
AmenSorry forgot to tell you who was the successor, any Christian willing to give up flesh and learn Spirit values in Christ... We are all equil in Jesus as brothers and sisters, nothing more.
