What Will Be Loosed In Heaven ?

Matthew 16:19
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven

This scripture says it all,
What are the keys of the Kingdom of heaven? Were they given only to Simon Peter? No, Jesus gives them to those who make the same confession made by Peter, those who know Christ as Savior. If you are a child of God, you have the keys. The keys were the badge of authority of the office of the scribes who interpreted the Scriptures to the people (see Neh. 8:2-8). Every Christian today has the Scriptures and, therefore, the keys. If we withhold the Word, we "bind on earth"; if we give the Word, we "loose on earth." No man or individual church has the keys---to the exclusion of all other believers. We have a responsibility today to give out the gospel because it is the only thing that can save people. This is a tremendous revelation. Who is sufficient for these things? You and I have a responsiblity that is awesome indeed!

:goodpost::goodpost::goodpost:Amen and amen . I agree completely .

I do not share such clarity. How did you discern your view based on those scripture?

Bishops, Pastors, Preachers, and/or Teachers have no greater powers than other Christians. Their positions are gifts/parts of the Body of Christ, which makes up the Church Body. Jesus explained it best to the future leaders of the Church to be:

Matthew 23:8. But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.

....simply spoken...we are all just brethren.

Good Day and God Bless

Well if you read this verses, Christ was only talking to the Apostles. I also believe a power to bind on Earth and Heaven is a pretty big Authority and I don’t think God would have given that type of power to everyone.

Matthew 16:19
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."
Matthew 18:18
"I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

Can you show me where in the bible Christ has given the keys of the kingdom to anyone other then Peter?

Yes , Christ was talking to the disciples , but we are also disciples of Christ while here on earth . When we accepted Christ as our Saviour , He has given us the Holy Spirit and therefore we also have been given the authority because we are told to share the good news of the gospel to every one and if they reject that gospel then we are not held accountable because we have done what Christ asked .

I have been given the power of the Holy Spirit living in me .

Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 3:7
I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power

Can you show me where in the bible Christ has given thekeys of the kingdom to anyone other then Peter?

The keys signify the Word of God or the gospel and we as born again Christians are all given the keys to eternity when we accept Jesus Christ as our Saviour .

Just as an example ... when we think of keys opening a door , this is the same analogy that Christ uses when we are saved because He gives us the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven

John 3:7

7You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.'

John 3:5

5Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Perfect scripture:

In order to get this gospel out, we need power. That was His promise: "Ye shall receive power." And we need the leading of the Lord. Although it is our business today to get out the Word of God, there is no power in us, there is no power in the church, but there is power in the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who moves through an individual or through the church or througha radio program. The question is whether we permit Him to do so. "Ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you."

Our commission as Christians is to get the Gospel out. By doing that, we have been empowered by the Holy Spirit to do it. This is an awesome power that is given to all of God's children.

Can you show me where in the bible Christ has given thekeys of the kingdom to anyone other then Peter?

We have power through Christ Jesus:

1 John 4:4. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Are we on the same page as to what is Binding and Loosing? Here is where I stand:

Matthew 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

First, we must take all scripture in the context of the whole council of God. Heaven is the place of Righteousness where God Resides, thus Heaven takes no lead from man. Therefore, that which is loosed or bound on earth and loosed or bound in heaven is only in sync, when such is the will which comes from heaven.

  • Loosed: is to allow, do or promote that which is Good/Godly/Right.
  • Bound: is to bind/destroy/restrict that which is Bad/ungodly/wrong.
The keys of the kingdom of heaven gives us access and knowledge to determine what is Good (to loose) or Bad (that which to bind).

We all have the Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven which is spelled out in God's word (The Holy Bible). Just as Peter, we too are instructed to Loose and Bind. That which requires binding but is not, becomes the leaven that leads to total corruption.

Good Day and God Bless

fyi: a key has no value if it is never used....

Good Day and God Bless

While I believe that Jesus Christ gave gifts liberally throughout the churhc this one in particular started with Peter. There is simply no evidence that it ended with Peter and he was simply the first to opne the door to the gentiles (on the day of Pentecost).
Here is an excellent teaching on the subject from Albert Barnes Notes on the Bible:
Mat_16:19
And I will give unto thee ... - A key is an instrument for opening a door.
He that is in possession of it has the power of access, and has a general care of a house. Hence, in the Bible, a key is used as a symbol of superintendence an emblem of power and authority. See the Isa_22:22 note; Rev_1:18; Rev_3:7 notes. The kingdom of heaven here means, doubtless, the church on earth. See the notes at Mat_3:2. When the Saviour says, therefore, he will give to Peter the keys of the kingdom of heaven, he means that he will make him the instrument of opening the door of faith to the world the first to preach the gospel to both Jews and Gentiles. This was done, Acts 2:14-36; 10. The “power of the keys” was given, on this occasion, to Peter alone, solely for this reason; the power of “binding and loosing” on earth was given to the other apostles with him. See Mat_18:18. The only pre-eminence, then, that Peter had was the honor of first opening the doors of the gospel to the world.
Whatsoever thou shalt bind ... - The phrase “to bind” and “to loose” was often used by the Jews. It meant to prohibit and to permit. To bind a thing was to forbid it; to loose it, to allow it to be done. Thus, they said about gathering wood on the Sabbath day, “The school of Shammei binds it” - i. e., forbids it; “the school of Hillel looses it” - i. e., allows it. When Jesus gave this power to the apostles, he meant that whatsoever they forbade in the church should have divine authority; whatever they permitted, or commanded, should also have divine authority - that is, should be bound or loosed in heaven, or meet the approbation of God. They were to be guided infallibly in the organization of the church:
1. by the teaching of Christ, and,
2. by the teaching of the Holy Spirit.
This does not refer to persons, but to things - “whatsoever,” not whosoever. It refers to rites and ceremonies in the church. Such of the Jewish customs as they should forbid were to be forbidden, and such as they thought proper to permit were to be allowed. Such rites as they should appoint in the church were to have the force of divine authority. Accordingly, they commanded the Gentile converts to “abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood” Act_15:20; and, in general, they organized the church, and directed what was to be observed and what was to be avoided. The rules laid down by them in the Acts of the Apostles and in the Epistles, in connection with the teachings of the Saviour as recorded in the evangelists, constitute the only law binding on Christians in regard to the order of the church, and the rites and ceremonies to be observed in it.

I hope this helped clarify a few points,
many blessings in His Name,
brother Larry.

In Matthew 16:19 Christ was clearly singling out Peter and in Matthew 18:18 he was speaking to all the disciples. The definition of disciple is indeed very, my tradition accepts the disciples in Matthew 18:18 to be the Apostles Bishops and Pastors, I believe. Can I ask you what authority did Christ give, can you give me an example of this powers being used in our daily life, one for binding and loosening in Heaven, In my tradition the forgiving of sins.

Although I haven’t done any research on this, the only other place that I know Keys are mention is in Isaiah 22:22 where Eliakim is given power over David’s Kingdom. I believe like wise that Peter was given similar power over Gods kingdom on Earth both passages are very similar.

Chello .... I have quoted the scripture where we have been given the power by the Holy Spirit living in us .

Acts 1:8

Ephesians 3:7
I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power

When we are born again the Holy spirit comes to live and dwell in us and therefore we have the power of the Holy Spirit. We are God's witnesses and by the Holy Spirit living in us we are able to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit and live in obedience to the scripture.

We have three weapons that may be used as we are being led by the spirit of the Lord.

1. We have the power and the authority of the name of Jesus Christ.
2. We have the power and the authority of the blood of Jesus Christ.
3. We have the power and the authority of the word of God.

JOHN 15:5

5. I am the vine, ye are the branches; He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

But on the other hand being fully submitted to the Lord is power.

John 15:7

7. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done unto you.

Now we will have a better understanding of the significance of what Jesus read in the 61st chapter of Isaiah and why he quit where he did.

Isaiah 61: The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of prison to them that are bound;

The Lord gave the power and authority to the body of Christ to Peter as the keys to the kingdom of heaven in Luke 16:18,19. He gave the anointing and power to his body, the Branch in Isaiah 10:27 and Isaiah 11:1-5. He confirmed it again in John 15:1-16. And he commissioned us for this work in John 17:18.

Jesus was telling Peter that He is going to build His Church through him. It must have been a great honor for Peter to cherish those words from the Lord. But Jesus didn’t stop there. He said that He would give Peter a set of keys (vs. 19) with which he and the Church can bind and loose anything on the earth. Then He began showing not only to Peter but to all His disciples that what those keys are all about in vs. 21. This same verse is quoted clearly in Mark 8: 31.
Mark 8:31

Chellow .... I hope this helps to clarify .

In the Bible it talks about the Kingdom a lot and as children of the most high God who have accepted Him in our hearts as Lord of our life and therefore we belong to the Kingdom of Heaven .

Please refer to the post that Brother Larry submitted as it is so thorough .

James 2:5

5Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?

The "key" gives us access. This access is access to God's Grace, blessings and His authority. This access/authority is not limited to any specific persons, all (Christians) have access:

Hebrew 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Ephesians 2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

Ephesians 3:12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

1 John 5:14-15. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

We need no mediator or someone who think they have special power. As Christains, we all have powers that resides in our saviour. Our access is through His word.

Even though I disagree completely with that what would that mean if it were true. Historically Peter lived in Palestine and there is no reason to think he ever went to Rome. The only documentation that would even imply this is spurious error ridden Apocryphal writing.
So if Peter alone receive some special "power" it must have died with him- where would that leave the church?
Peter was merely the first to open the doors to the Gentiles. His Ministry was notably lacking and the mantle of Apostle to the Gentiles passed to Paul:
Rom 11:13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

Thank you illinijag for this very simplified post . .... excellent . :) And that is why when we are saved we have been given the Holy Spirit who helps us and teaches us as we yield to His ways .

This is my final try at the word " key " and trying to find a definition . I went to my Bible Dictionary and am quoting this so it is not my words just so you understand .

Key .... the hebrew word is "mapheah " , opener .... An oriental key was made of wood with nails or woooden pegs to fit corresponding holes in the bolt holding the door fast (Judges 3:25 ) Figeratively , a symbol of authority carried on the shoulder ( Isaiah 22:20-22 )

Greek "kleis" " something that shuts'" ( Luke 11:52) symbolic of the authority given to Peter ( Matt 16:19) but which Jesus stills retains ( Rev. 1:18; 3:7 ) the key that keeps the destructive forces ( 9:1) and satan (20:1) in the bottomless pit.

The "key" gives us access. This access is access to God's Grace, blessings and His authority. This access/authority is not limited to any specific persons, all (Christians) have access:
