Are All Forgiven?

To forgive is to bring healing to one’s offender. Jesus brought us forgiveness by freely accepting the most painful death for expressing love through his words and actions. Through His sacrifice Jesus imprints his spirit of love on our heart; which heals us by enabling us to die to sin and accept righteousness (1Peter 2:24). Jesus brings forgiveness to all (including those who betrayed him and were unfaithful to him). Those who accept his forgiving spirit accept his forgiveness. On the other hand those who reject his forgiving spirit by refusing to forgive reject his forgiveness.

Also, notice the scripture that says:

But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. Matthew 6:15

Scary scripture, huh? If I don't forgive you of something that you have done, God won't forgive me of my sins.

Good point: Why do you think that is so, xspinningisfun?
Sometimes, our forgiveness lies in the hands of others. Think about it. Obviously God forgives because He's God. But this scripture says that if we don't forgive others, then we cannot receive the forgiveness of the Father.

Hmm. A mi no me gusta. I've read this scripture before. What if I get in a car crash and die to today without forgiving something right away that upset me? I thought it says to believe Jesus died for our sins and we are forgiven. Which one is it? Both? Just doesn't seem feasible. I can say I forgive, but in my heart it may take longer. I can't control my heart.

God's full of grace. His death was enough to cover all of our sins! I cannot answer your question because I still question this. So I have no say on that matter. Perhaps someone else can explain :)

But this is how I feel personally. God truly is fully of grace and He judges the heart and I believe that His death on the cross has covered all of our sin and that means our future sin. However, that doesn't mean we keep sinning intentionally because of it. But, we do sin. We all fall short of the glory of God.

Just because you may disagree with a scripture doesn't mean it's not true. The Word is without fault and it doesn't contradict itself :)

I believe God looks at the heart and I believe that if we are trying to forgive others who have hurt us, I believe He looks at that. But if you hold onto that bitterness intentionally and live in it, that's a problem. However, we are probably all going to die with some sin in our lives. Is God going to send us to hell because of it? I don't think so! I believe if one is truly walking in the way of the Lord and is in relationship with Him, then that's the key to heaven. The old covenant was based off of works, but the new covenant with Christ is based off grace. If we were living under the old covenant, then yes.

Hopefully this makes sense.

Sorry Katie! My post came off wrong. No scripture, no matter how much I disagree or don't like, is wrong. All scripture is correct and true.

Also, it makes sense, but what about those who have been terribly abused in life versus those that have had a rather smooth life? I have a friend that has just had the luckiest life i've seen and he's always happy and forgiving. Recently saved but before that not really Christian. Now that he's turned Christian, he got his GF pregnant and well, life is just now starting to get hard for him.

Anyhow, it says in the bible that God does not play favorites, but there must be a distinction amongst those he saves (depending on how their lives have gone) and doesn't. Can anyone point to that in the scriptures?

I believe their is a hierarchy in heaven-some of the best examples of this are in Revelation (24 thrones/elders, etc) and also Christ told the disciples they would 'judge' the 12 tribes. It is my understanding that 'New Jerusalem' is reserved for the saved 'Jews'. And obviously there is 1 KING over all....

Revelation 4

Here's a question-is a 'crumb' of heaven worth devoting your life to Christ?

Mark 7:24 And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid. 25 For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet: 26 The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter. 27 But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs. 28 And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs. 29 And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter. 30 And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.

I'll take that crumb! Thank you Lord!!!!!!!!!!!

That is OK, I've got you covered. I'll forgive you for not forgiving me. That might seem facetious....and in a way it is:confused:
But it does raise the point I guess,..if I forgive someone for not forgiving me, will the Lord still hold them culpable?
So to amplify my point, I do/say something by which you take hurt. I think about it and repent, asking you to forgive me. You are still steamed up about it and hold me guilty. I really am sorry and understand your being cranky, so I'll forgive you for throwing knives at my photo. Do you think that the Lord will not forgive you for my sake?

I'm just sharing what the Word tells us and I believe that what it says isn't a metaphor :)

You won't be held accountable for apologizing, but I would if I'm harboring unforgiveness and refuse to forgive you. You did your part. You tried making things right. It is up to me to forgive you. Forgiveness doesn't come easily. Forgiveness isn't just for the one who hurt me, but it's also for me. Unforgiveness has a bondage on you and I personally don't believe that God wants me to forgive you just for you, but he wants us to be released from the chains of unforgiveness.

I don't know if this makes sense. I've been studying all day for a midterm on Tuesday, so my mind is a bit mushy :p

xspinningisfun, I think you missed my point......nevermind:(

You are right about the bondage of unforgiveness. I had issues where I would not forgive someone, then eventually I found I needed to forgive, but actually couldn't.
I took myself to a healing service and as the ministry team prayed over me, it felt like a plant was being pulled up and out of my body. I could feel what seemed to be roots being pulled up through my arms and legs and all. I thought afterward about letting bitter roots take hold.
So yes, forgiveness is something for our own benefit more so than any others.

I probably did, lol. I'm beyond exhausted and not much is making sense! Lol.

In answer to Tink's question, I don't think we live constantly on the razor's edge of salvation - saved only so long as we are in the right frame of mind, unsaved if we have a moment of failure, doomed if we should happen to die in that moment. Sin has consequences, of course, and habitual unforgiveness would be a rejection of grace and the work of Christ. But, none of us are perfect, so we rely on God's grace in our moments of weakness and we, in receiving that grace, extend it to others out of obedience and as a natural expression of our renewal and transformation. I have been working on forgiving some people for decades. I'm a bit of a hard case with a long memory. But the desire and drive of my heart is to be like Jesus and obey God in all ways - not for brownie points, but because His ways are good and glorious. When a grudge surfaces, God goes to work on my heart, working more of His grace in me.

Point being, our salvation depends on Jesus' perfection, not our own. But, if our behavior and attitudes do not reflect, however imperfectly, the heart and mind of Christ, we have good reason to fear.

I agree. There seems to be an order of things.

I think the the New Jerusalem will be the home of the "Church". THe saved of all the ages.

Yes sir. When we are angry or upset or do not forgive others, we are actually in bondage to them and they are the ones controling our lives.

Forgivness is definetly for our benifit.

I agree completely, but how do you forgive when the memory is so fresh and you're trying, but it's not working? I was reading the Bible yesterday and praying, but when I think of this girl, I am just so angry at her or upset, and feel that she has really betrayed me. I just feel like cutting her out of my life completely is the best thing for me to move on. By cutting her out, I mean taking her off my facebook so I don't have to continue seeing her, which reminds me of yhe situations. I know this probably seems futile, but liars really upset me to the core.

Thank you Rumely. I am known for my elephant type memory as well. I suppose it's a blessing and a curse. Speaking of the scripture regarding forgiving others which allows us to be forgiven, are you saying that it can be interpreted differently? Because If read it for what it is, then it is strictly saying that if I do not forgive others, God will not forgive me. That seems pretty straightforward... If you are saying what you are saying, which I would love to believe, and which, if He is truly a loving God that is true, is there anywhere else in the Bible that shows that verse isn't as starightforward as it appears?
