Tattoo First Timer Yet?

Chris Vaggos: Well, interesting, anyway; sounds like the old one that you want to cover dates from before your daughter was born, maybe, anyhow.

I guess the snake significance is for the S shape dictated by the rune shapes that you want to cover. Anyway, what with Moses lifiting up the serpent in the wilderness (John chapter 3, etc.) and the connection with your daughter, you'll probably get a lot of milage out of it, in terms of its meaning and significance to you.

Blessings.
:)

Sounds like you definitely got Biblical names there! Eliza is the tattooed one, then, and one of the boys.

Blessings.
EliSa, and two of the boys, Joshua is the one who didn't.

Oops, I spelt it wrong. Anyway, Christian young women, like young men, now seem to be pretty confident about getting tattooed.

PS:

RoninJedi:

Do you already have design concepts worked out for those 4 or 5 future tattoos? some of them faith based, maybe?

Blessings.

For a couple, I do. One is a Tweety Bird with angel wings and a Halo, which have "Nannie" underneath with her birth-and-death date on my chest. My grandmother passed a couple years back, and she was a huge Tweety fan. Unfortunately, my mom beat me to it and got the same tattoo on her ankle, except hers says "Mom". The funny thing is neither one of us ever mentioned the tattoo to each other!

On my forearms, I plan to get just a simple "James 1:2" and "Proverbs 24:10" - one on each though I'm not sure which will go where yet.

Then my wife and I are thinking of a matching tattoo with a cross with our names written in it, with our names intersecting at the second letter - because it's the same lol.

RoninJedi: Ty; very interesting. :)

Yes, Bible verses can be real conversation-starters with people, in witness situations, particularly if they form a clear part of tattoo designs.

Sounds like you and your mom have discovered that you guys already together share a deep sense of tattoo aesthetic without even needing to discuss the details, necessarily.

So you wife wants to join you, too, in getting a similar tattoo design? so will she be a first timer? or maybe like your mom, she's aleady taken the plunge for the first time?

Sounds like soon if not already, anyhow, you guys in your family will be quite accomplished tattooees.

Blessings.

Christ Vaggos:

:) indeed.

Anyway, when one finds the right design, there's something very satisfying about a first tattoo; so I know you want to put the snake there instead, but was the one on your wrist your first one?

Blessings.
Yes it was and I was going to put one on my foot but I stopped half way through the S.

Christ Vaggos: Yes, well as placements, I guess wrist and foot kind of complement each other, really. A lot of women do both, of course. Don't know if your daughter's mom has had her first ink, but despite the fact that the gender patterns in tattoo placements are changing, arm and wrist can be very satisfying: it used to be that arm was a preferred male placement (and it is indeed, still) but not any longer exclusively, if it ever was, even.

my mom beat me to it and got the same tattoo...

PS: RoninJedi:

Yes, well often now it's the ladies that prove to have more confidence to take the first plunge under the needle, really. (In North America apparently 59% of parlor clients are actually women, with 70% female in some areas.) For Christians what this maybe shows, amongst other things, is that faith based tattoo designs have a huge potential, especially since women are often more spiritually minded than men. Blessings.

I had a Christian friend who had a wedding band tattooed around his finger, instead of wearing a traditional band.

Can't say it doesn't demonstrate commitment. Not a bad idea, I thought.

Yes I agree. My eldest son, who is married to a PK, won't get one because he believes the Bible speaks against it. I had to correct his understanding, but bottom line is he doesn't want one. They should NEVER feel pressured to get one or feel pressure to NOT get one. They should be taught to understand the issue and decide from there.
..

Stan: So your DIL is a preacher's daughter? Well, fine. I reckon that there are plenty of preachers' daughters who are happily and confidently tattooed, though, such as with faith based designs.

Roads: Interesting; did his wife do it, too? (seeing that the finger tattoo was all about his marriage to her...)

No, she wears a traditional ring.

Roads: Well, okay. Because today often the intiative to get tattooed comes from the woman. Don't know about Australia, but in North America 59% of parlor clients now are women (with some areas reporting 70% women).

Blessings.

How about a compromise and get a traditional ring, but tattoo "Put the ring back on" underneath it?

It's a kind of joint tattoo thing, isn't it?

A lot of ppl get their toes tattooed also, and put rings on them also; I'm not advocating it, but it's a fact.

Roads: Yes, you do have to be fully committed to go under the tattoo needle. This is why first ink is often a rite of passage special occasion, such as for the 18th b-day.

my mom ... got the same tattoo on her ankle..

RoninJedi:

PS:

Was it her first tattoo, maybe? and do you know if your wife's planned one is for the same placement?

I guess that for some placements there are preferences according to gender, anyway.

Blessings.

PS:

In an article by Donna Sundblad, 'Expert Tattoo Artist Speaks on Symbolism', Amanda Pate is quoted as follows:

'Personally, I believe getting a tattoo based on faith is an excellent way to show you have belief. Also, it can be used as a tool for testimony. In my opinion, faith-based tattoos are some of the more beautiful tattoos. ..
The question I am asked the most is, "Do they hurt?" That is a definite yes. Some people can handle pain better than others, and some people take it as a euphoric experience.'

Does this kind of tie in with your past experiences, maybe?

Blessings.
