Question on Scripture

Lol i had a friend say when she questioned God about something and ask 'why?!' God answered 'why not!'.
I mean He's God right? And we arent. So He can do anything. His ways are much higher than ours.

The thing is trusting God and He will always do what is right. Sometimes it may seem unfair to us humans. But thats because we are short sighted. We cant see into eternity the way He can.

The thing is the more I read the Bible the more I find the answers as to why God does things the way He does. I mean theres a lot of history there, going back to his relationship with His chosen people and how He treats them and the way they treated Him. The things that breaks Gods heart like sending His only begotten son into our world yet gets killed and dies a horrible death...I mean imagine if you did that with your flesh and blood son who was innocent. Wanting only to show love yet being mocked and rejected! Warning people not to do certain things cos they will die but people do them anyway!

When God gives me as scripture I look it up and often write it down so I remember what Hes telling me.

With this scripture, Coffeedrinker, I dont know if youve read on the Bible or remember the story of God leading his people out of Egypt. Of course they didnt have anywhere to farm and only took the clothes on their backs pretty much as they were walking in the wilderness to get to the promised land. Pretty soon they were hungry. What did God do? He sent manna down from heaven. He gave them quails. They didnt have to worry about hunting or gathering.....God provided.

That's why God sent Him, to die on the cross for us.

He didnt send Jesus to JUST to die on the cross.
Look for the resurrection life. God wants us to have eternal life. Jesus said I came so that you will have LIFE and life in abundance. John 3:16 God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son so that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

When God says he brings you out of Egypt and wants to fill you, its the same as Jesus rescuing us from bondage and filling us with his holy spirit. Out of Egypt God called his son. Remember when Jesus and family fled to Egypt because of Herods slaughter fest. His family could have stayed there and lived there and never gone back to Israel. They may have been safer, but they would have come into bondage to idols. God called Jesus home, just as he's calling us home.

If He had not gone to the cross there would be no anything for us.

When God gives you a scripture that is just for you and personal to you, how do you walk in that scripture / blessing?
How do you take a hold of it as yours and gain the blessing of what God is giving you / saying to you?

I read many comments about this, most of them tangential to the question at hand.

When the Holy Spirit reveals a thing to you it will not be complex or require a rocket scientist or lettered theologian to explain. Though I am such a person as the latter, I can say with sincere and simple words - just do it.

Don't second guess God's direction. He knows what He's doing.
Just do it.
Don't argue with God. You won't get an answer. The Most High never argues with anybody.
Just do it.
Don't obey out of motivation for profit. Pockets and purses are for carrying money. The heart has none.
Just do it.
Never obey God with personal advantage in mind. God is not a financial advisor.
Just do it.
God is Lord, not you. We are servants of the Almighty. He is called LORD for a reason.
Just do it.
Walking in the scripture is in contradiction to the flesh. This is the heart of the matter. Don't follow the flesh. If scripture directs you to do a thing...
Just do it.

The real question, the one that isn't asked, is 'how do you know the will of God'? How does the Almighty make His will known to us?

There are five methods God uses to communicate with us.

1. Object lessons - also called circumstances. Early stories of the Bible illustrate this principle. God reveals His will by means of situations & events.

2. Scripture - the Word of God as published in the pages of the Holy Bible. God gives scripture for edification, guidance, hope and personal direction.

3. Prophecy - sermons and utterances of spiritual moral and ethical nature. Prophecy in the Bible does NOT refer to predictions of the future. A prophecy is most accurately defined as an utterance by a spiritual leader to provide guidance and encouragement in the nature of interpretations of scripture.

4. Holy Spirit - the still small voice of direct communication within one's heart and mind. This is what people generally mean when they speak of God talking to them. It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words and so direct communication may also include dreams and visions. Be advised that these are less reliable because interpretations can be vague and easily misunderstood. A word, spoken or heard, has precise meaning.

5. Agreement of the saints - If several people of equal or greater spiritual experience to your own agree with you on interpretation of divine guidance and providence you may assume their collective understanding is correct.

The above five methods of divine revelation in the lives of believers is a classic list. I didn't make this up in the shadows of my computer corner and I didn't look it up in the misty environs of the internet. I didn't discover them in a dusty book on my library self either. Its a tried and true list. Check it out.

Finally, having received help from heaven and having determined that it is indeed from God....

Just do it.

And in your prayers at the end of the day don't forget to give thanks for His mercy....

and that's me, hollering from the choir loft...

He came for the cross to defeat the devil and take back the keys to death.

Jesus had to shed His Blood.

Jesus knew He was here for the cross.
Not trying to argue with you here but dying on the cross is not the end of the story cos he was raised to life. The lamb was slain, but raised to life. I think thats important to remember as the devil thought he got victory when Jesus was crucified but actually...the devil lost because Jesus was raised to life again. Can Satan kill Jesus off, well NO! Because even when Jesus died he was raised to eternal life.

Im not sure what you mean about Jesus taking back the keys of death though.

In regards to what God instructs us to do, I would say when God asks you to do something, just trust and obey. he knows what He's doing! Jeremiah 29:11 comes to mind here. Our Heavenly Father loves us, He would not ask you to do something that would have an unexpected outcome, for He knows the end from the beginning.

Revelation 1:18
I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Didn't think you were! :)

I agree dying on the cross is not the end.
I was just replying to something you had said with, the cross was the purpose Jesus came, and for 3 years prior, He taught man how to live in the Spirit or God's Way and this would be able to be done after He fulfilled what He came for.

Also.......
It was not just Jesus dying and laying in a tume then raised that fulfilled His Purpose.
A lot of Spiritual Events took place over the 3 days and nights in order to fulfil or Execute Gods Plan All Along and defeating satan and stripping him of his authority and powers over death and taking back the keys of hell and death.

satan fell right into God's plan and at the exact right time, God breathed His Spirit back into Jesus and He Was Alive and this is when Jesus defeated satan.

That's the jist of it or in a nut shell.
It's really an amazing Well Executed Plan.
Blessings to you !!

In no way am I rejecting your plan but I for one would subtract a few numbers from your list however and narrow it down to just two.

1. Through the ministry of the Holy Spirit in...........
2. illuminating God's word.

It is my understanding that God's revelation in His Bible is complete as contained in the sixty six Books of the Bible.

That means he does not have further things to reveal to nations or individuals that are not in the Bible. The Lord guides and instructs us in our daily lives from His written word as it is given light by the person of the Holy Spirit.

Further, the Bible is all sufficient in directing a person to finding and carrying out the will of God for their lives.

Now that is just me.

The Lord of Hosts does not communicate in spirit alone. The five items on my list of revealed divine will include most things we think of as physical - the published Bible, sermons, the advice of the saints and so on.

How do you know you're two items originate with the Holy Spirit?

There are many imitations abroad in the land. The spirit of deception does not appear in tattered rags, but is cloaked in apparent light. It generally agrees with self-will and persuades the victim that its words are good. The communications of the Holy Spirit do not always go down smoothly. Many times they disagree with our own desires and wishes. Therein lies a great separation between worldly spiritism and divine providence.

Judges 17:6 says...........
“Everyone did what was right in his own eyes”.

I agree and You are absolutely correct. There are "many, many" imitations everywhere!!!

That IMO is exactly what is happening in our society today. The people of the days of JUdges abandomed God and ignored His words and within a couple of generations they were doing what they wanted to do instead of what God wanted them to do. IN 1964 we as a nation removed the Bible and prayer from school and pretty much all business locations. That is what I see taking place today.

We as saved humans beings, who have the endwelling of the Holy Spirit, also have a conscience and it warns us when we are doing something that challenges the morality and character of God.

Now where do we find the morality and character of God. In His written Word.
We can think that we hear from this and that and the Holy Spirit said this and that to "me", but the catch is our conscience and our hearing and understanding is only as good as the moral standard and character of God that informs it. If it’s not the Bible, then we inevitably inform our conscience by various other means.

Some of those being dreams and visions and yes, the deception of demons and Satan himself.

Matthew 7:24-25................
"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built His house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock”.

It is my opinion and absolutly no one has to agree with me, but the Word of God, the Bible, is the only rock upon which to build character, morality, understanding and knowledge of God.

As stated by FCJ, Rev. 1:18 clearly says...........
I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.”

Jesus conquered death and by that it means that everyone one day will be resurrected to face the judgment of Christ and either being with Him or cast away.

So then, the correct way to understand this is that the keys are used as an emblem of power and authority.
Jesus has full control, he always did from the creation itself.

You know the worship song, 'How great is our God' what do you think of it, cos one of the lyrics is 'He wraps himself in light'. Theres something about this song that I am a bit wary of. Also it says 'the lion and the lamb' I know they will lie down together and the lion will eat straw but, the song never explains it, or mentions the name of Jesus or calls Him Lord. I was thinking its kind if a generic song that could be sung in any church since its so vague. I mean compared to 'How Great thou art' which is all about the glory of God, displayed in the heavens.

Hi Lanolin;

At a time when I served in the praise and worship ministry before serving in the pastorate. We were required to study the scriptures that aligned with the lyrics of any praise or worship song that was sung at worship services. How Great Is Our God has scripture for every line.
For example;

He wraps Himself in Light - The Old Testaments in Psalm 104:2, Isaiah and the New Testaments in 1 Timothy, 1 John and Revelation all refer to God the creator of Light and raising of the Light so all may glorify His Son, Jesus.

The Lion and the Lamb - In Genesis and Hosea the Lion refers to the tribe of Judah. In John, 1 Peter and in Revelation emphasises the Lamb of Jesus.

This was written and composed by Chris Tomlin in 2004. He provides specific scriptures in all his songs which is good accountability on his part.

"How Great Thou Art" is a classic hymn from 1949.

If you get a chance, play it while reading the scriptures and my prayer is it will enhance your worship of this song.

God bless you and your family.

The issue I have with it is the 'wraps himself in light' because God IS light he doesnt need to wrap himself in it. Satan can appear as an angel of light.

The other is the lion and the lamb. It is the Lamb on the throne of God not the lion. The lamb is the only one worthy to open the scroll because the slain lamb rises again. PLus in Psalm 91 we can step on lions and adders they wont hurt us.

I just find that song very vague and it can be interpreted either way. When you singing in church you dont study it because its just given for you to sing there are no footnotes. I dont think you need to have doubts about a church hymn but this one to me is questionable.

HOw Great thou art is a much better hymn I just find the lyrics are in line with scripture.

It doesnt have the 'sing with me, how great...' as if chris tomlin is inserting himself in the song there. If you singing in worship to the Lord its not meant to be about the singer. Maybe I am just being picky, but wouldnt it be better to have the lyrics 'sing with us' or instead change the other lyric to 'how great is my God'. To make more sense.

Our how Great is the Lord.
He wraps himself in light...well God IS light there is no shadow in His turning.
The lion lies down with the lamb...

Anyway. Its just a song but I kind of groan if its always sung. There are certain christian songs that I think are kind of cheesy!

Not sure if you're asking how others respond to something in the scripture, or if you're asking for yourself. First off, nothing belongs to us, we are just the stewards of what God has given us. A good place to start is pray about it and trust God to guide you.

When I come across something in the scripture that grabs my attention, there have been many times when it had to do with an error in my walk, and it felt as if God slapped me upside the head and said HELLO!? ANYBODY HOME?! It's never been a fuzzy message, always clear what I needed to do (or not do). As far as any reward or blessing, I don't do it/not do it for that motive, I do it out of love for the Lord and trust in Him. Many a time it was something that goes against my personal pride or lust for the world.

no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation(2Peter 1 20-21)...the scriptures are for all of us.Before taking it personal, work out with the Spirit what God is actually saying..and then apply it personally.

God gave me this scripture. He actually told me this twice as confirmation.
Psalm 81:10King James Version (KJV)
10 I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

How do I walk in that?
great piece of scripture-when I read this Psalm 81:10 I immediately think of his Word..God wants to fill you with his Word.eat his Word everyday as often as possible and you will grow my brother.work with the Holy Spirit and you wont go wrong..the Spirit starts us off with milk and as we grow he gives us more solid food.read your bible that is how you walk in it.

However the question was not dealing with prophecy.
When The Holy Spirit makes a scripture to stand out it is most defiantly for them and not necessarly for everyone at that time
