Plus One

What a most secure and encouraging truth, that the believer will never again be alone after being reborn. And, not only the Father and Son’s (Rom 8:9; Gal 4:6 1Pet 1:11) Holy Spirit eternally within (Jhn 14:16) but also now and forever connected with all who are Theirs. Often in our trials we can become distracted from minding the truth that the Spirit of comfort (Jhn 14:16, 26; 15:26; 16:7) is ever in us—which is the greatest encouragement we can have, because we eventually learn that just knowing God remains in and with us resolves all difficulties. How encouraged the disciples could have been in the “boat” (Mk 4:39; Psa 89:9) if this had already been a part of their maturity. But greater is it when considering that this was merely another lesson (among many as we all know) being used for the maturing of their faith.

The difficulties that distract me the most are those I create, and I momentarily forget that I’m not alone. But regardless of where a trial comes from it is not only foreknown but has also been prearranged to benefit your faith, and this is what we are to remember the most for optimum consistency in our “endurance” (2Tim 2:3).

The difficulties believers encounter are always (regardless of the size) for the testing of our faith, and this is not a pass-fail test but is always a strengthening test from its teaching, like determining the purity of gold when tested (i.e. what gold tests out to be, by acid). We have already been passed, thus it is not as though we are on probation, to see what we will do, but it’s the lesson we learn in realizing our benefit from trusting God in the hardness. Of course, it should easily be understood how impractical this faith lesson would be if we don’t know the permanency of our union with God will never be disrupted; fellowship yes, but never unity.

There is the greatest comfort in knowing that everything results to our benefit, even when we know not what to think, feel, do or say. “For if we hope for that which we see not, then do we with patience wait for it” (this is matured faith – Rom 8:25). Regardless of your present maturity level, the outcome of the blessing is the same—but the strength of your faith has just again “increased” (Luke 17:5)!

Hello netchaplain;

I love how Paul encourages Timothy in 2 Timothy.

No matter who we are, will have those moments when we forget. My boat has had rocky moments in 2018 and when I forget, Praise God! He sends someone to remind me that Jesus knows and loves us just the way we are.

The Lord commands us to "endure" because it is He who will get us "through" those rocky moments.

Thank you for sharing your teaching of Plus One.

God bless you and your family.

Actually this is not totally accurate.
Many times a believer goes through things they never were meant to out of disobedience and wrong thinking and doing things on their own claiming it was God.

We must be careful claiming everything we go through was orchastrated by the hand of God or was simply to teach us or check our faith level.

We have an enemy who looks for ways to get to us and when we open the door unto him, it is by our own hand that we go through difficulties.

Hi Brother and good to hear from you! I can appreciate why you say this, but I see it that God has already planned on using all we encounter and experience to work for our good, even through the ungodliness of our nature. After all, He's been using Satan's ungodliness from the beginning to glorify Himself, but we must know that the wrongdoings of one born again are used as lessons for "conforming" us. Remember, He uses everything in existence for what He has already purposed.

Blessings,

I find this alarming to say the least.
God in His Holiness does not use or need to use the unGodlines of satan to glorify himself.

He is Holy and His Glory is seen even amongst the most glorious and Holy things.

There is a lot of evil in this world and it is not working good in anything.

Everything that happens in this evil world does not go through the hands of God.
Blessings

I think we dont always know the things weve done have been disobedient to God because sins from the past can have consequences now. Or from previous generations. For example, cancer, why do people get cancer, is it a God thing surely not as its a horrible disease. But people can get closer to God through suffering it.

We know cancer is a symptom of something thats wrong, perhaps with the food we eat or even just breathing polluted air. But you cant put a direct pinpoint on it and say well so and so got cancer because they were disobedient to God.

I guess it would be like saying Jesus beating and crucifixtion was Gods punishment. Well actually no, curcifixtion and beating were the Roman way of dealing with criminals. Jesus was innocent. But if he didnt go through it, He would have never obtained the victory for us, giving his life for us, giving his blood and his body, and overcoming the grave.

Blessings,

True, and He needs nothing or nobody for glorification, but He use everything in existence for glorifying Himself. Satan's defeat I believe is a good example!

Evil in itself works no good but the point is that God causes it to work out for good to those who love Him, but first for His glory.

I think though God does not have a hand in any sin, He foreknows all of it that occurs in this life, and allows it to transpire so He can use it to manifest Himself. I believe holiness is most clearly seen in the contrast of sin!

Blessings!

Hello netchaplain;

In my post I was referring to believers who desire to uphold the standards of Godly living and are conscious of their mistakes and prodigal sins. The conviction of the believer will ask God to forgive or correct the believer and turn their situations and lessons learned around for good.

I was reading FC Jim's post and would like to discuss this further regarding the blatant, individual act of sin.

Extreme examples;

A married pastor puts his open hand behind the back of a woman member at a potluck, showing outwardly affection of brotherly and sisterly love. But on the inside there is an attraction in his heart for her. The blatant act is lust that can fester into adultery.

Or a member who has a secret drinking problem but has always kept it from the church family. The member hides this constantly by drinking ice water during a church gathering or Christmas party. But then goes to their private bar, or on a vacation far away and openly drinks shots of teguila and chasers of beer. The blatant act of debauchery that can lead to further dishonesty of character with the church family.

I don't feel God turns these blatant acts around for good, instead will reveal expression of His divine displeasure with human sin, especially when the sinner is aware and won't repent (turn around) from their wicked ways and seek forgiveness.

However, God can turn these blatant acts of sinful situations into good by protecting those who are affected having upheld the standards of Godly living.

Again, thank you for your thread and this topic.

God bless you, brother, and your family.

Still not necessarily true.
We can open the door to sin and or give the enemy a legal right at us. God can not work good in it or through it if we do not repent and correct the issue and kick the devil out.

Much evil is loose in this world and God is not using it to work good in anyone's lives.
Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

One does fall into error when claiming this scripture says that all bad or evil is worked or works out for our best or advantage.

No Sir, God allows sin because He Himself has given each of us the right to choose.
Sin never glorifies God and neither does Holiness get seen most clearly in the contrast of sin.

Blessings to you and your family

I think people get Romans 8:28 mixed up with Genesis 50:20

God can turn evil circumstances around.
Yes God can - BUT - that takes repentance and following through on our part.

A Christian can get out on their own out of disobedience and get into trouble, hurt or killed and it won't be worked for their Good until they get back in line with God and His ways.

However one must continue to do things God's way and in time yes God can use something meant for harm into something Good.

I think this is a significant point of our differing beliefs, which is okay of course, but just wanted to point it out. I believe nothing works for the good of the unsaved (Tit 1:15), but conversely "all things" (includes everything in existence) do for the saved!

Blessings!

Hi netchaplain;

I look forward to our next fellowship.

God bless you and your family.

but conversely "all things" (includes everything in existence) do for the saved!

The use of all things as you are implying is out of context.

If a Christian gets angry at a driver and runs them off the road and shoots them dead.
This falls under all things but no good is in it.

A Brother ruined his life and another had days of life stolen.

26Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will ofGod.
28And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

We find v 28 in context of prayer.
We find that our words and the Spirits words all work together for the Good of those who Love God and are Called according to His Purpose.

Then to take a stripped piece of this verse and use it to claim everything that happens which means ALL EVIL as well is going to be worked for ones good.
That is a vital error and false hope .

Blessings
