I can't hear God well if at all... I'm questioning if I have his spirit

I've been saved since 2010..
I have been baptized...and I do speak in tongues...

I'm just confused as to why I don't hear his voice.

My friend said his sheep hear his voice.

Either I'm not a sheep or I need to be rebaptized... And filled.

I don't know what to do..

But I do know I should be being led

It makes me wonder if I'm a sheep or if I just snuck in some how :/

Or if I'm supposed to be saved.

Maybe this is why it's so hard.

Feelings can be great for inner confirmation, but their absence does not imply someone not being saved.

If you have accepted Christ, and that is not a matter of feeling but of inner choice, then the authority of God's word should gurantee to you that you are His.

autumn oddity ,
Faith is Key. That means Believing What God has Already Said.

Forgive me but your "mouth" is working against you. Your enemy puts these questioning thoughts and feelings in you and then - You autumn oddity - Are giving life to your enemies will for you. he needs you to speak his will so he can have legal right to get in there and work against you......AND you are giving it to him.

You seem to be trying way to hard to hear some great Revelation or complete answer to a situation or course in life.

Slow down and let and allow Him to do so.
Even in HEARING it's going to be baby steps until you train yourself to KNOW His voice.

Secondly and most important.......
EXAMINE YOUR LIFE....has God told you something and you have been playing with it, first believing it was God then questioning if it was and all the long deep down inside you know it was God but you allow your desires to lead you over what He said.......
That Will Hinder your Hearing.......
Fix it....

I'm not trying to hear a great revelation just led in everyday life that's all.

Girl... the enemy is having a great time of harassing you. Now he has you believing your possibly not God's sheep... yikes.

Yes all God's children are His sheep (that be you!) The Bible says the evidence is that you have the Holy Spirit within you. So your speaking in tongues is proof your saved and baptized in the Holy Spirit.

The reason you can't hear.. is because you keep speaking and convincing yourself you can't hear. Your grabbing hold of the fear... instead of how much God loves you.

Find the peace of God... and let the fear go :)
God loves you soooooooo much. He's not letting you go that easy

Read your Bible, pray, and then write down or draw what God is saying to you. Make a special time to do this, maybe first thing in he morning or before you go to bed.
Do you have a Bible and are you reading it or are you just leaving it on the shelf? Have it open right where you are. Choose a book to read from the Bible. I would say start with the gospels or Proverbs. Or whatever one takes your fancy, I started from Genesis and read the whole way through.

God speaks through His word.

If reading is too hard for you, try listening to an audio Bible. You can download copies for free online. Ask God to help you, thing is, He likes it when we ask him for help, thats what Hes here for. JUst say to Him, Lord I need your help, Im stilla bit lost and dont know what to do. Please guide me eith your wisdom every day. Thank you Jesus for saving me.

You have been saved and are a sheep you had just been far from God come closer to Him. Thats why you havent been hearing Him. Theres a story in the Bible about two sisters, Mary and Martha. Both loved the Lord but it was Mary who sat at Jesus feet and listened to him while Martha was so busy doing all the housework that she got mad when Mary didnt come and help her. BUt Jesus said it was Mary had chosen the most important thing, which was to sit close to Jesus and listen to what he had to say.

Sometimes we have to drop everything we are doing because hearing from God and receiving his teaching and instruction is the most importsnt thing, the housework and everything else other people have asked you to do can wait!

I don't want to be a vessel for destruction.

:(

I'm trying ...I really am.
Autumn, I don't remember seeing anything in your posts about scripture that speaks to you. If you would be willing, please post some of your favorite verses that speak to you with a little bit of info on what it means to you.
Or, if you are studying any specific subject in the Bible, what is it and what have you learned?
I think for you this might put better thoughts in your head and get you away from discouragement. Your brothers and sisters in Christ will be here to help you out. :)

You said...…….
"I am confused why I do not hear His voice".

1 Corinthians 14:33...……..
" For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. (here, the term peace can also be translated to mean a quiet and restful mind, not troubled by confusion or doubt).

There are many make believers all around us which are followed by disorder, confusion and public displays and that according to what Paul said is suspect.

Those actions are emotion driven and are feelings and they do not mean we are saved or unsaved.

Romans 10:17 says...…...
"Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God".

Also understand my dear sister that what other people tell you is not always the truth. Many people say they "Hear" the audible voice of God so to project to you that they are more spiritual that you.

That is pride and religion at work.

The fact is that if you will just sit tand think for a moment you will remember that you have in fact heard the voice of God many times.

God speaks to our spirit through others that He uses so in fact you by reading this post may be hearing God speak to you.
God speaks to us through His written Word.
God Speaks Through Circumstances that we encounter.

I'm just confused as to why I don't hear his voice.

You do can hear HIS voice and everyone else DOES, even an Atheist can hear HIS voice.... there is a bible verse for that.

Every time I found myself staying late at night:
I HEAR my mother saying to me “Why stay wakeful late at night for nothing” (ie: compared to staying late productively vs staying late for nothing”

Or when I feel hungry and the food I have in the ref is good for 3 eating and I will try to finish it 1 time:
I HEAR my mother says “gobbling grace then later on your mouth wide open”…

My mother passed away 5 years ago, and I still can HEAR her…

My point:

we can HEAR God speaks to us when EVERYTIME we are reminded of HIS written word found in the Bible, and thanks God that we can access it at ease compared to a point of time that it is prohibited to read it yourself alone.

Or what you mean is our physical EAR audibly HEARING God speaks???

Oh my God, I will be scared to death if God will actually AUDIBLY ON MY EAR speak to me…

or, I will doubt my sanity,,

or of course, I will compare what I HEAR on what ALREADY WRITTEN if what I heard is in accordance with HIS WRITTEN word….

And I think HEARing God audibly will be for VIP only, ie: Very Important Persons historically like Moses, OT Prophets, St. Paul,,,,

Just an added thought:

Our Lord, Jesus himself when tested: quoted “it is written”… that is: Jesus himself use what he read on the written Word of God: as it is written…

That is the 1st temptation…

and it will be worthwhile to note that the enemy got back to Jesus with “for it is written” as well (2nd Temptation)... and Jesus made a correct interpretation "it is also written"

and on the 3rd temptation : Jesus does quoted again “For it is written"

Matthew 4:1-11 New International Version (NIV)Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness
4 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]”

5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[c]”
7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[d]”

8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’[e]”

11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

I think he is trying to get at that God spoke to several people who are the prophets in the Bible and they wrote down what He said so that everyone can hear Him if they read His word.

But in these last days God spoke through his son Jesus. This is what it says in the first chapter of Hebrews.

If you have a bible that is a red letter version, the words in red are the very words Jesus Christ spoke. That is His word for us believers.

When Jesus was baptised God actually spoke from the heavens and said this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased. Hear ye Him.

In other words listen to what Jesus says. God wants us to have Jesus words in our heart. How do we do that? By reading the Bible! Whether you read it out loud or silently, doesnt matter, but this is how we hear from God!

This is why we have the Bible.

You are using the wrong post to my question.

If you have a bible that is a red letter version, the words in red are the very words Jesus Christ spoke. That is His word for us believers.

This is where we must understand the Two Main Covenants. Jesus spoke a lot through the old covenant as He prepared the world for the new Covenant.
Remember Jesus had not gone to the cross yet so there was no New Covenant in place yet.

In other words listen to what Jesus says. God wants us to have Jesus words in our heart. How do we do that? By reading the Bible! Whether you read it out loud or silently, doesnt matter, but this is how we hear from God!

This is why we have the Bible.

This is true we Need The Word of God full in our hearts.
However remember before the day of Pentecost the only people to have the Holy Spirit was Priest, Prophets and some kings.
That's why they depended more on hearing God as they did.

However as Born Again Spirit Filled Believers we do have The Holy Spirit and we are to learn to be Spirit Led. This means Development of Hearing His Voice.

Before the day of pentecost John the baptist had the holy spirit, but he died (was beheaded) and Jesus also had the holy spirit.

I am not trying to argue with you. JEsus very words are spirit filled. And they are written down in the Bible now. Remember at pentecost they did not have the new testment written down it was actually in theprocess of being recorded. To be handed down to believers across the generations. Why written down because God writes things down so we can remember it! He didnt just speak the words of the ten commandments right, he wrote it on stone tablets to be shared and memorised. He didnt just speak to the prophets and nobody bothered to record it. It got written down.

This is why reading the Bible is SO VERY IMPORTANT to hear from God.

Jesus also had the holy spirit.
Yes and When the Holy Spirit came on Him He began His mission as Prophet and Teacher and Priest. .

Most importantly He was Teaching, Showing and Living as an example on HOW we as Born Again SPIRIT Filled Believers Should Live. By being Spirit Led.

Before the day of pentecost John the baptist had the holy spirit,
Prophet

I am not arguing either but much of what Jesus spoke was from the old covenant and in truth the new covenant has replaced it.
Wait Please.. :) no one is arguing that Jesus Words are not Holy or Spirit Filled or instigate.

The Law including the 10 commandments were not here to save anyone but to bring about sin. Without a law there could be no sin.
Old Covenant......
It was written you shall not commit adultery
Jesus raised the BAR so high that no man other then Himself could keep it AS HE SPOKE these Words. .....have you ever even just LOOKED at another with these thoughts....then you are guilty of breaking not only that law but them all.

Jesus Spoke the old covenant a lot in order to show how EVERYONE would need The Savior.

Remember at pentecost they did not have the new testment written down it was actually in theprocess of being recorded.
True but more then that it was being Lived, Shown and taught.

What does this have to do with the op?
I think it is very much have to do with the OP.
I would say Ms. Autumn Oddity can only say if otherwise.

How are you using this with the op?

Thanks for Lanolin post# 15, that is mostly what am trying to say.

To summarize what am trying to say to AO (Autumn Oddity)

READING the Bible (which is written) is an Opportunity to HEAR God speaks, which is the OP is about for..

Written… being written, that is: to emphasize: it IS written!
That is an awesome gift for human kind, given our being forgetful as human as we are, and in this internet age: it is very much available at ease, in our convenience to access the WORD and HEAR GOD!

As I feel a need to quote a verse to support what am saying: here one of verses related:

  • i think, for Ms. AO: it is very important to take notes EVERYTIME BIBLE VERSES is being mentioned.
  • Read those Bible verses and there is a lot to learn
  • Romans:15:4 : the Word is for our learning
  • Romans 10:18: the sound went into all the earth, ie: for everyone to hear
  • Ephesians: the Word of God is the Sword of the Spirit: the Helmet of Salvation

ROM 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

ROM 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

ROM 10:18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

EPH 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
EPH 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
EPH 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
EPH 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
EPH 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

The word is nigh to your mouth.

How are you are you actually taught if you have no physical teacher to show you? One way is to READ the Bible and ask God to SHOW you in his word what He means.

The words of the Bible are Gods words to you. Do not ever dismiss reading the Bible, that is the very first thing God wants you to learn when he fills you with the Holy Spirit he opens up scripture to you. When Jesus was resurrected and people didnt actually recognise that he was resuurected and he was their Messiah the very first thing he did was open up scripture to them. Two people were walking on the road to Emmaus. They were talking about the news of the day, and speculating what happened to Jesus. And Jesus was right there with him! He was right there and they could see him but they had no clue!

LUke 24:25-27

And then he said unto them, o fools, and slow of heart to believe all the prophets have spoken: ought not Christ to have suffered these things and enter into glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

JEsus was explaining the Scriptures from MOSES concerning himself! He was quoting the old testment! Even at pentecost the very first thing people were speaking were scriptures! From the old testament! From the prophet Joel.
