Reflection On Christians Who Reach Retirement

Dear brothers and sisters;

I want to add I'm retired from my career in 2015 but I'm still serving fulltime in the church and agree as a servant of God, I will never retire. I have good friends, brothers and sisters in their 80s and 90s who I love and respect. They aren't retired and still minister to me weekly.

The more I spend time in the Word, passages in 1 Timothy 5 and Exodus 20:12 speak to me daily. Its also nice to see younger men, women and youth approach me with humble respect. I'm blessed.

The ones that tell me to take a hike, well, all I can do is love them and let them go. This is also humbling because it reminds me of myself when I was younger.

God bless you all and your families.

That is a very common misconception. "Spending the kids' inheritance" refers to tax-and-spend policies that do not produce anything of value. They merely rob the children of their inheritance.
Can you explain what a tax-and-spend policy is?

Hi Lanolin;

When someone tells me to "take a hike," is one who doesn't like me, disrespects me or literally tells me to go away! It can also be used in a joke, for example, if I'm teasing someone they'll respond while laughing, "take a hike, Bob."

This is an expression used here in the States, whether serious or joking.

Does this help?

God bless you, Lanolin.

Haha well its not often used here in nz. Here people would be more inclined to say ..well I cant even print it here I might get in trouble.

In the United States, there are basically two political mindsets - the link below describes the agendas of both major US political parties. Please remember that 'liberal' is tied to the Democrat political party and 'conservative' is tied to the Republican party. The differences in idealistic philosophy are quite far apart and is one of the primary reasons that there are stalemates in the US Congress when these two sets of agendas clash.

I am speaking of general principles. I have not studied specific examples.
Oh just thought it would help me understand better.

Like for example if politicians spend this tax on their personal overseas holidays. Not even for good will visits but just so they can cruise on a yacht or play golf.

Or how about and this is an example from my own country, millions of taxpayers money to have a referendum on whether or not to change the nz flag. People didnt want to change it so it stayed the same. But it was millions of dollars spend this referendum. When they couldn have easily just changed it without having a referendum about it, but spent the money actually doing it. $21.8 million dollars it came to.

But that money isnt actually allocated to that it has to come from somewhere. So schools and hospitals get their budgets slashed while money is spent on this flag thing.

The govt promised to plant millions of trees right...but get this they are telling people they have to buy their own trees first. They actually not giving any trees to people to plant. They just want the credit for it.

I would also add here if you do not mind, that Liberal Democratic agenda is uselly referring to "bigger and more taxation" government,
and Conservative Republican means "smaller and less taxation" government control.

An excellent website that lists these differences is at...…..https://www.diffen.com/difference/Democrat_vs_Republican

Just the same as right wing and left wing in my country...there are two main opposing parties. National and Labour.

Has anyone here actually taken a hike once they retired?

I know of one retired couple, actually a friends husband bought an rv so practically every weekend they are in it away somewhere. When her husband retired he wanted to travel everywhere but she just wanted to stay home. I can imagine it must be difficult if both if you dont want to do the same thing.

Also if you both married but one is much older than the other and both were working you might not want to retire at the same time. I know one couple, the husband is like 20 years older than his wife, the wife wants to keep working.

My mums still working even though my dad has retired. He wants to go away this year to travel but she doesnt really. What do you do when you married and you dont want to do the same things. Would you really get tired of each other if you had to spend every waking moment together.

IMO...……...we should stay as active as we can doing what we love to do because there will come a day when all we will be able to do is sit and watch TV.

You cant read a book? TV is boring.
I worked in some retirement villages. Those that had care centres attached, the oldies had these wheelie sofas. The nurses would wheel them into a room and some occupational therapists would come and do activities with them, like exercisies, read the newspaper, or make quizzes. Most were on powerful drugs and medications. So probably not all there, and maybe too deaf or blind to take in much. They couldnt walk anymore of even go outside.

I dont think that happens necessrily to everyone that gets old but those that suffer from dementia and alzheimers. They cant remember anything except their oldest memories its like they go back to being children and babies. Actually I dont know if they really suffer all that much because they are looked after their every need by nurses. Maybe the ones in the understaffed villages suffer from lack of care.

Yes I can read a book. It was only an example. I can and just may sit and sip iced tea and kill flies with a BB gun.
The point is that I will not be able to do a whole lot one day and neither will YOU. Old age does not discriminate and is an equal opportunity employer.

Suffer???? Of course they suffer my dear. Most can not walk by themselves or hear or see very well. They can not do what they want to do. They can not go where they used to go and on top of that...…..They suffer because they are ALONE.

And the people you just described will be YOU before you know it my sister.
