Think tank

I think you can do click and collect now.
You also probably need to go to the grocery store more often, like once or twice a week. That means more exercise. How do you ever have fresh food if you only buy once a month? Thats not really healthy to have month old food. Bread goes stale within a day!
I shop 1a month sometimes every 2 months. I live wayyyyyyyy out in the woods. I grow my own veggies , fish a little bit. Pretty self sufficient out here as long as I don't get sucked up by a tornado LOL

do you have five kids too?

well I think thats understandable but see my supermarket is just up the road from me, and those trolleys seem to end up in the creek down the road. So it cant be from those people living way out in the sticks.

I would hope people living that far out would have enough food and grow their own to get by.

hmm we dont have gators or snakes in nz. People seem to die tragically either in car crashes or by drowning in creeks and rivers or the ocean. The other natural selection seems to be heart attacks from eating too much and or driving too fast.

Cancer does affect people but thats mainly due to other countries spraying their food with pesticides. I know so many people who cant tolerate gluten anymore, and getting sick from eating badly processed food over a lifetime.

The supermarkets here use technology. The wheels have a locking device that, once the carts get to a certain point in the parking lot, the wheels lock up. Now, back in the day, yes, there were carts left all over the place. Once in a while, you will see a homeless person using one, but not that often.

It could also be a neighborhood thing. Around here, you just need the cart to get you to the trunk of your car. In many cases, the supermarket has people that will push the cart for you and give you a hand putting the items in your car.

perfect, yes we need those, somehow. But can they convert all the old trolleys or would the supermarket have to buy all new lockable ones??

Unless we invent a drive-thru supermarket.

Hi.

You would just have to buy the wheel with the chip in it.

We have drive-through markets, we call them "Farm Stores." They are not very big, but they have most of what you might need in a hurry. There are not as many as there use to be, but I think it is mostly Florida thing.

We also have this service called Instacart. Basically, you shop for groceries online and they will deliver it do your house. Never used it, but I hear it is popular: https://www.instacart.com/miami/publix#more-departments

wow. we have drive thru banks although I've never used one. I like using my legs. Or can just pay online now.

Yes people always seem to be in a hurry these days. Dont work too hard people, otherwise your family might fall apart.

There is literally no reason to ever leave your house. You can work from home, shop from home, bank from home, even travel and have relationships from home.

hmm. Wouldn't you go a bit stir crazy being stuck at home all the time? Depends on how many people live there I guess and if you get along with them. Or maybe your home is huge.

Anyway, just on topic of think tank. One of my friends had this brilliant idea for many years but sadly nobody's taken it up.

Its for a Green University in Auckland. We have the campus for it already but it could be dedicated to research for green/enviro technologies and all the sustainable ideas and innovations that come from it. NZ is waaaay behind on this. Permaculture could have a base there as well an green engineering, like solar, wind, and other renewable energy. Innovative transport solutions, housing, etc.

Oh but no the board and status quo stakeholders just want to run this campus to the ground, sell it off for makeshift housing, and make money while they can. No thought to future generations at all.

Another grand idea for my home town. Auckland is a port, and cruise ships come in from all over the world. But...New Zealand does not have it's own cruise line. So they are not bringing much money into our country. If New Zealand had it's own cruise line like it has it's own airline, it would employ more from our hospitality industry and the profits would go into our own country. I would call it Sea New Zealand, like we have Air New Zealand.

We just need someone with tonnes of money to invest in one. Because we have good marine engineers, the ships could be made and fitted out here. We could have South Pacific cruises leaving from Auckland or any ports round NZ instead of having to fly or include Sydney or Melbourne to take a cruise.

As long as we don't have any major disasters like Erebus or White Island or Wahine or Tangiwai...hmm I would make Health and Safety a high priority. It's a bit lax here. Pike River Mine anyone?

It would especially be kitted out to suit retired people and families needing a holiday, and maybe even have school trips round the country on them (funded by charitable donations). The entertainment would be multicultural and the buffet and dining would include plenty of fresh seafood, with top chefs from Masterchef having cooking demonstrations. You could learn to do the haka or poi or some flax weaving. And there will be stargazing and ball room dancing, as well as a sea museum on board where you learn about Abel Tasman, Captain Cook, and other famous sailors like Peter Blake. There will also be foot spa and treatment and pampering of course, and a nightly 'It's in the Bag' game show and quiz nights. lol

stink maybe my cruise ship idea won't ever happen..I wonder if there's any Noahs out there still who feel called to build an ark.

I had this brilliant idea that I put towards AT (Auckland transport) that instead of using bus shelters for commercial advertising vapes and junk food and supermarket we could put community notices there.
Well they replied to my email and said I had to go and talk to the people that handle their advertising, some media company that likely charges for everyone to put their ads there.

Now how would I word it and say to them don't make money from our bus shelters why not have space for community notices. They might laugh and say well no it doesn't make us money. Yea AT for passing the buck on this one, like Council have contracted services out to greedy vendors with no interest at all in the public good just their own pockets.

I suppose if I wanted to put up an ad for a garage sale or a missing pet, I could just stick it right over their hideous mcDonalds ad.

Hi Lanolin, the question really is not if they are going to laugh at you; they will. The question is if they are going to laugh at you to your face or wait until they hand up on you.

I read AT’s 2018 financials last night. Their revenue was $1.9 billion and expenses $1.6. They did not break down their revenues to any great details, but I suspect that revenues from selling advertising space is part of their “Other” revenue (18% of total revenues).

All transportation companies sell space for advertising. In my area, the Miami-Dade Transportation authority, pretty much sell every inch of available advertising space (bus stops, outside of buses, inside of buses, etc). I’m really surprised that they don’t have bus drivers wear jackets with advertising on them.

Not sure how much they made in your part of the planet, but it is worth millions here. Here they do it based on potential views. Advertising prices are based on the potential number of people who will see it. I was able to see one price. The space had a potential of over 92 million views and went for close to $400,000. It did not note for how long, but probably several months. There is one guy in Denver who actually placed at ad in which he sold his body as adversiting space:

Anyway, I get where your heart is on this, but you will just be disappointed. A business is in the business of making money and none are going to voluntarily walk away from profits. As for your missing pet, yea, print it and pin it to a tree.

I don't live in america sorry so not sure what you all are going on about.

Actually I don't want to know.

It sounds awful.

Council is actually not meant to be involved in profit making enterprises, they are supposed to be a non profit organisation in the interests of public service. If they are not, then they are simply a joke, and corrupt.

Are you guys actually interested in standing up for truth, or just going to let evil take over while doing nothing and living off your retirement checks? Do you actually care about the communities you live in? Cos frankly I don't see a lot of caring going on.

I am reading of a couple who ended up with $47 million after their son sold his TradeMe business. They then started going on these trips all around the world by bike. To see where they were going to spend their money.

I don't begrudge them that they want to see where their money goes, if they want to help aid organisations or whatever. But those who have money may actually want to do something good with it. What we need to to do is think to come up with solutions for the problems we are facing RIGHT NOW, instead of just laughing at them and thinking of our own skins.
