Which operating system do you use, and why?

Hello all,
I am curious as to which operating system everyone uses here. For me, I personally use Linux Mint 20.10. Why? I use it because everything works out of the box and it is virus free. Please...let's discuss!

I use windows 10 Home in S mode, but that's because my laptop came with that. I have an older desktop though that uses Windows 7 Home Premium. I've always used windows and it's what I know. I', m sure there are better systems. I'm just not sure if I want to spend the time to learn them.

Windows 10 because it was on a used computer kindly donated to me, so I could order my groceries online and have them delivered. (I am homebound)

Hey Jesse;

I shared this from another topic in Technology and Internet;

Hey guys;

From a different angle, we bought an Apple computer, a Mac Mini in 2017, the OS is 10.15.7. Just last month after 3 years the computer was running so, so slow. I took it in to my computer shop and they noticed the hard drive was from 2012 yet sold as brand new in 2017 from a nation wide reputable store!!

So, going forward they replaced the hard drive with a solid state. WOW! Now my computer is running so much faster now.

I was disappointed at first and thought, "I don't own an Apple but instead own a Lemon." lol!

Since in these times we are using more online church fellowship I wish PC monitors would have built in cameras.

Anyone know of a pc monitor that has a built in camera? HP?

Yeah, it seems like Apple is greedy. Also, yes, my HP has a built-in camera and it is very good.

We mainly have Apple and HP products in the house. When I was into graphic design/digital photography, I found MAC's easier to use. They had enough RAM to scream though those old design programs. Its not about the O.S. for me; its about what I use a computer for. They all have their ups and downs. Linux can be used on both HP and Apple products, so I imagine it depends on what your personal needs or preferences are. I mean gamers on the other hand... lol

I have been a user of Mint since Version 5, and right now use the Windows 10 for just the office software, and also used Ubuntu Christian edition until it died away, and now on Robo linux as main operating system!

Hello YeshuaFan;

For years I heard through the buzz that linux is a good alternative to Windows. But I never followed up with linux.

Is it clean free and minimize viruses, trojans the bad guys?

Its is a great operating system as very few "bugs" and and nearly no virus/trojans!
Still keep Windows for the Office suite and certain programs linux cannot do as well as, especially gaming if into that! I dual boot, have windows 10 and 4 linux now!

I'm on Apple so its updated to the latest one at the moment. Was it Catalina? I can't remember.
At school it's Windows.
I'm supposing if I was a techie I would use Linux.
I don't use computers for games or graphics, mostly its for internet, blogging, maps, and emails. Facetime occasionally.

I actually prefer doing stuff offline, like drawing or lettering and things like that, and board games and puzzles. I kind of like pen and paper. Also I read real books, rather than read e-books on there. Online I just use it for cataloguing purposes, and searching for books, which I will take out and read the whole thing lying on my bed.

Hi Lanolin;

The latest Apple OS is Catalina 10.15.7 I just tried to update it and it responded that it's current.

Linux MUCH easier now to use, as it was at first only able to use terminal command line instructions, but now pretty much same as using windows and mac!

I just use the ones that comes with the computer and the updates.
I'm not really one who shops around for computer products. I only do that when something breaks or doesn't work anymore.

Thankfully the library operating system I inherited is quite straightforward, though I would say the customer interface could be improved. But then I talk to the helpdesk about any issues and they usually work on solutions. We use one called Accessit.

I have used a few different ones over the years. They need to cope with millions of cataloguing data.
