The Soul

I agree that all humans have a body, a soul, an a spirit (3 in 1). The body is the shell, the soul is who we think we are, and the spirit is who we can become; our direct link to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (3 in 1).

When a person speaks, are those words emanating from their soul or spirit? (via the physical parts of lungs, vocal cords, larynx, brain etc.)

Did Jesus say somewhere the words we speak come from our heart? That if we say something amiss that is what we have been harbouring those words in our heart. Or have I misunderstood that?

Those who believe Scripture teaches that man is a dichotomy (2) see humans as comprised of two parts: a body and a spirit.

Then there are those who believe Scripture teaches that man is a trichotomy ( 3) and see man as comprised of three distinct parts: body, soul, and spirit.

Is it important to conclusively decide between dichotomy and trichotomy? Perhaps not; however, a word of caution is appropriate. Some who hold the trichotomist view have erroneously taught that God can bypass our soul/intellect and communicate directly with our spirit; such teaching leads to irrational mysticism.

Other churches have used the trichotomous position to teach the possibility of Christians being demon-possessed. Because they see the soul and spirit as two separate immaterial aspects within the Christian, they postulate that one can be indwelt by the Holy Spirit and the other can be possessed by demonic forces. This teaching is problematic in that there are no biblical references that those who are indwelt by the Holy Spirit can be simultaneously possessed by demons.

Regardless of whether a Christian believes dichotomy or trichotomy best represents an accurate understanding of Scripture, we can all unitedly praise God with the psalmist in Psalms 139:14........
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well”!!!!

Via.....thank you!

IMPO....God speak to us through His written Word. I also believe that He speaks to us through our "conscious" mind and sometimes to our sub - conscious mind.

THAT is where those "GUT" feelings come from. Like you are somewhere and all of a sudden you have the feeling that you are not supposed to be where you are.

When my conscience bothers me about doing something or before I make a decision to do something, I can either listen to it or I can ignore it, but if I ignore it, I stand a better chance of doing something that God says is sin. Knowing my own heart, I can talk myself into doing things that I know are not right by trying to rationalize it (everyone else is doing it), but if I ignore my conscience, I am likely suppressing what God is trying to tell me.

He did. But for those who hold to a tri-part view of man (body, soul and spirit) what part of those three would our words be coming from? If we have been given a new 'heart', does that mean a new soul? Or our spirit is quickened?

Surely it must depend whether you believe in triune or not, as to the answer.
I don"t fully know.
Man became a living soul when God breathed into him. That means your soul can die and we are told to only fear those who can destroy body and soul. Can a spirit die?
My answer must be I don't know. The only way I can think of it is that The Holy Spirit convicts us of right and wrong, and God gives us a new heart. The greatest gift is love and if we have that in our heart its be God's spirit that it comes from if we speak goodness, because we are allowing God to work through us. Therefore if we do good, including speaking good, it is God"s spirit within us, for we cannot do good of ourselves.
If er Dvorak baf therefore it must be our soul.

I don't fully know either, but am just musing things over.

When it comes to the death of soul and/or spirit, I take death as meaning the separation from the source of Life...God Himself. So my answer would be 'yes'.

If er Dvorak baf therefore it must be our soul.
Could you translate that. (I don't speak in tongues nor have the gift of interpretation. lol). I know Dvorak was a famous composer, but that's about it.

crossnote
I agree with your definnnition of death. I'm just not sure if we have a spirit of of own. I believe our death is when the breath of God returns to Him. We are not a living soul then.

Thank you CPerkins
That is definitely the one.
Or maybe:

James 3:8-10: 8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

Luke 6:45 (KJV) A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Very thought provoking.

Very thought provoking.
Anyone and everyone is free to disagree with me. I am nothing but an old coutry boy from the great Promised Land but it seems to me that from all that I have understood, t he soul is in between the spirit and the body; it binds the spirit and the body together as one. The spirit can rule over the body through the soul and subject it under God’s power. The body can also induce the spirit through the soul to love the world. Among the three elements of man, the spirit is joined to God and is the highest.

The body is the "world-consciousness," the soul is the "self-consciousness," and the spirit is the "God-consciousness."

HI M.

what do you mean world-consciousness? I thought our bodies are spacesuits.. unless you mean our spacesuits are in tune more with the outer world and instinctively know what to do...like when babies are born they know how to suck without thinking about it.
