Clothing

Just wondering are there any favourite clothes you like to wear, or what do you like to see on other people. Is there any particular style of 'Christian' clothing that people wear, other than the clothes themselves being clean and not full of holes?

When going to church to gather and worship, do you make the effort to wear your best outfit, and do you wear this on any other days?
Or does your church GIVE you clothes to wear, like choir robes, or a special t-shirt, or something?
Any particular colours you prefer or avoid?

If it's really cold, do you wear coats and jackets, and is there a place to hang your coats and hats when you go into church, if the church is warm, or is it so cold that you have to keep them on? Do you keep your shoes on, or are you allowed to take them off?

Hey Lanolin;

I'm not into nor keep up with styles, so I don't buy top of the line. I don't need to. I'm very content with this:

1. I enjoy wearing jeans, a solid t-shirt like blue, green, gray or white, a hoodie and Sketcher shoes that I find very comfortable.

2. I wear a blue, gray or black suit on Sundays and have had my suit wardrobe for a few years. I take care of my suits and shoes, and will make them last. After lockdown I wore casual dress pants and a sweater, whatever makes me feel comfortable but want to appear in my best for worship service.

3. Our coldest days in Daly City, CA get a temperature of 50 - 55 degrees during the day. So I'll wear a thicker sweater or hoody during the week. On Sundays I have a couple of Costco thick jackets, one blue and the other black - only $20.00 each!

4. In my house we take our shoes off. In church I leave my shoes on. I don't encourage men and women to take their shoes off during worship service, but they will wear sandals (California thing.)

hmm my everyday choices are - merino wool top with skirt or corduroy pants for school. Sometimes I top it with a sleeveless vest for another layer. In winter I wear woolly tights under the skirts and then my puffy jacket, and beanie and scarf if its really chilly, in autumn I top it with a light cardigan, in summer when its really hot just a summer dress.
In the library I always take my shoes off and wear my special bunny slippers.

At home - shorts and t shirt or casual pants/track pants. I do gardening so just wear old clothes that don't matter if they get a bit dirty. A sweatshirt or hoody when its colder. I have a pair of cargo pants and a red polar fleece jacket I've had for years and I always wear them.
night- winter -pyjamas and bathrobe, in summer, nighty and dressing gown.

For church I like to wear my best dress or skirts and tops. Or my dressy pants. I don't really go in for suits, at least suits for women, I find them too formal and uncomfortable, also, they look boring! I make the effort to look tidy and nice.

at my other job I wear a uniform which is a company polo shirt and black skirt or shorts, when its cold I wear black tights and merino top underneath.

I try to go for colour that suits my colouring which is 'winter colouring' according to 'colour me beautiful' and its basically brighter, jewel colours rather than say pastels or muted tones. However I can't seem to get away from pink, as many clothes in my size are offered in pink and I have no choice lol.

I don't really like wearing jeans as they are uncomfortable for me. I know they are all the fashion and they come already ripped at destroyed but I just think they don't look good on me at all and they aren't warm either. I have already sort of skinny legs so putting me in skinny jeans just emphasises the fact, but if I wear other jeans they look all baggy. And I don't wear jeggings at all, because they go all wrinkly at the knees. It's very hard to find pants that fit me.

anyway, I don't have too many fashion dilemmas or wardrobe malfunctions as long as I keep on top of the laundry regularly, and the sewing/mending, I'm pretty much covered.

My favourite church outfit though, is one I made out of an white fleecy blanket, its basically an angel robe plus I have wings to go with it so at christmas when we go carolling I usually wear and all white ensemble with wings and a halo, and my golden sandals lol

In 1975 an AOG Church inducted me as an usher and bought me a suit. I wore it about 3 times, that was the last time I wore a suit to Church. Yes, this is So. California.

Hey crossnote, in 1975 I had long hair down to my shoulders, wore Levi Strauss jeans, a long sleeve shirt and dingo boots while playing guitar in the church worship team. lol!

In the last several years, this may seem different for Christians but I actually ask God what He says about what I wear. I have this belief that if I'm wearing something that is loud or conspicuous, I may draw attention to myself.

Of course, I am free to wear whatever suits me.

Getting back to wearing a suit on Sundays, it's not rich looking or flashy, but a "conservative wear" while representing God's church to the congregation or new visitor, and to be honest, I feel good about it.

Bob, yes, I agree, not to dress to draw attention to oneself, but today I don't think anything phases anybody these days lol.

I dress for comfort. I don't spend a lot on my clothes but I have some that I bought years ago, as well as recent ones.
Navy, black, beige and dusky pink are ok with me. My favourite colour has always been green I love khaki.
When I went to church I used to wear a cotton skirt in summer or wool in winter, blouse and Jersey jacket. Usually navy or plum colour.

I’m a plain Jane.

I shop in thrift mostly these days, some good stuff in those shops, but I do buy new sometimes, but then I try to buy sustainably. Trouble with the sustainable is they are really expensive. Same as organic food.
I’d love to be able to buy those kinds of things and help the planet, but the price ranges of buying those things all the time are way out of my league.

I like knitwear too😊

Those boots were definitely made for tapping to a 🎸
I was always jealous of the cowboy clothes in America as I wanted a ranch and horses and the lifestyle😊

The song 'Little Country Church' by a group called Love Song, was quite popular when I came to the Lord and I believe some of it's lyrics are quite a propos to this thread such as...

"Long hair, short hair, coats and ties, People finally coming around, looking past the hair etc."

In contrast the '50's was a time where you had better wear a coat or tie and have a crew cut or flat top.

Today, and for me, it makes no difference, have seen it all.

I'm mostly plain too, though there are some patterns I go for - stripes, polka dots, and florals.

I had heard that paisley, for some reason, is an absolute no no for christians to wear. Why?

If I had to guess...it's visual similarity to the Yin-Yang symbol?
no, ying yang symbol is black and white and a circle, paisley has flowers and kidney shaped blobs. I don't know why it would be so offensive.
Ying-Yang symbol is not usually used on clothing though, my grandma had it on cushions. It just represents opposites making up a whole, maybe you have to be a bit Chinese to understand the concept, but it's about harmony.

I have worn cheongsam but I don't actually have any anymore, I must have given them away. For Balls and things. They mostly have floral patterns on them, though some do have dragons.

Dragons could be offensive to some Christians, but in China dragons are thought of as lucky creatures, not the beasts they are in Revelation.
Otherwise I don't really have many chinese style clothes, even though most of my clothes are probably MADE in China.
