An Original Cartoon A Day

BEAUTIFUL texture difference in the cat and the bricks, Jason!

A great composition and a pleasure to view!

Thank you, Davey. I painted this 5x7 so space was a real premium. I also used Arches 100% cotton paper (first time using cotton) and let me tell you, I'm hooked. It's much easier to work with than wood pulp.

Unfortunately my eyes got the better of me on this one. Even with reading glasses I was squinting to see the detail while painting. I actually made the eyes too small and not round enough, but despite that I'm very pleased with the result. This will go in a small frame on my desk. All I have to do is go to T.J. Maxx for the frame! LOL.

I very much enjoy painting again after all these years. This thread was a major motivator in my decision to give it a go once more. Thank you! 🙏

I am trying something quite ambitious -- a self portrait! Yeah, I know, crazy.

ere is my work after two days. There are at least two more days to go. Wish me luck!

I beg to differ, LearningToLetGo, in that the great artists often used themselves as subjects in their works, for they then always had a subject. Van Gogh, Rembrandt, and countless others put themselves inside of their paintings.

Here is a compilation of Rembrandt self-portraits:

Thank you for your continued encouragement.

I did not mean it crazy to paint a self portrait but to assume I had skill enough to pull it off.

It's much harder to paint a specific person (versus a generic "person") than it is to paint a cat. I am very much struggling with the face, hence I am taking it ever so slow.
