I AM

Hello LearningToLetGo;

I remembering hearing, "I Am That I Am" when I was 8 years old at the movie, The Ten Commandments. My parents took us.

I know it has been said of it being a Hollywood movie but as a boy it made a lasting impression on me at the burning bush / Mount Sinai scene.

Good memory,
Jason.

But God does identify himself with the tetragrammaton (a term used over 6800 times in the O.T.) in verse 15.

God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘The LORD (i.e. יהוה), the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.

My point is, God says "I AM THAT I AM." He does not give a name. He does not give a title. He does not even give a relationship between He and mankind. No, he says "I AM."
I AM is God’s personal name. God is his office or function, not his name. Like the personal name of the one with the office of US President is Donald Trump, not President. Judaism and Christianity are unique to all other belief systems in that our Deity has a personality and a personal name. For example, the only other monotheistic faith, Islam, has an impersonal god who has no personal name; he's just god (Allah).

I AM is an expression of existence. It is a statement of unqualified fact of being, unless the Bible is horribly mistranslated.
In a literal sense, that is true. However, that expression of existence was so holy to the Israelites that they refused to say it aloud for fear of breaking the commandment against using the Lord's name in vain. As a consequence of that, today we don't have an accurate Hebrew pronunciation of the name. In fact, Jesus was attacked for saying "before Abraham was, I am" because the Jews viewed him as having said he was God.

I keep erasing my previous comment since I can't seem to find the right words...

"I AM" is so much more than just a name. It's a statement of being. I don't want to understate this.

Personally speaking.... and because this is the NAME given to me at the beach during my healing.... this name is SACRED to me.

I AM....( to me... means that the BIBLE and everything in it is TRUTH ). When I hear this name.... I am brought to my knees.

The name I AM is like the complete presentation of GOD. IT is PERFECTION.

That is how I see it.

Compare God saying "I AM" in relation to himself in Exodus 3:14 to God calling man "Adam" in Genesis 2:7 and 2:20. There is a pattern. The "name" given to a thing is descriptive. It's not a simple label as in English. The name "Adam" also means "ground" or "earth". So here we have God using "I AM" not just to give a name (label) to himself but also to give a definition of himself.

John 8:58 NKJV
Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”
Its also the part of bbile that JW hate, and get very fancible trying to claim Jesus was not claiming to be their OT Yahweh there, but that He actually stated that He has been, and that He existed before Abraham was even born, but not as God

The Jehovah’s Witnesses should change their name to Jehovah’s Perjurors, and re-label their NWT bible from New World Translation to Nit Wit Translation.

OK. Got it.

I am sure you know this but In John 8:58, we’re told about a heated confrontation between the religious leaders and Jesus. The escalating argument centered around Jesus’s identity and the identity of His critics until Jesus said........
“Before Abraham was born, I am!”, which brought the debate to an abrupt halt.

In a frenzy, the crowd grabbed stones and prepared to execute Jesus for blasphemy. By owning the sacred name “I Am,” Jesus had blatantly declared His divinity.
