How do you view using Creeds and Confessions along with the Bible?

Creeds are a good way to summarize what we believe as Christians; it's a good way to explain to a non Christian what the beliefs are.

As am a Calvinist Baptist who also likes to use the 1689 Confession, how would you see using any creed or confession of the Faith?
As a Southern Baptist, IMHO, I believe that a creed or statement faith aloows for the church to tell the world of its stance on the Biblical truths that surround us.

The development of the creeds helps us understand the boundaries of Christian orthodoxy. Within the church, pastors and other leaders should be teaching the basis of our doctrinal belief, because it is vitally important to building a robust doctrinal foundation in a post-modern world.

Indeed, as the chuch statement of belief would fall under a Confession of Faith for that assembly, and don't the SBC have their own formal church wide statement of beliefs?

They also would tend to help a church to stay strong in doctrines, as would be summaries of the cardinal truths of sacred scriptures
