How would you define the term holding to a Cessationism theology then?

I am also curious about this. There are so many 'isms".
I'd also like the record to show that I call baloney on anyone claiming to be a prophet. But also, I am here to learn.

basically, it would mean that a Christian would not see all of the spiritual gifts recorded down in the Bible as available to us today, and that none have been gifted with sign gifts to heal and do miracles as Apostles were in the bible. Does NOT mean we hod that miracles and healing can not happen today, but its done by God directly, when he chooses to do such, and not the norm, nor any today are faith halers and miracle workers

Also, what Spiritual Gifts were recorded does not limit God. There are so many more Spiritual Gifts by God that there couldn't be enough room to reveal in the Bible.

bingo thats it the spiritual gifts did not go out with the apostles . everything we do for the body of Christ is done by the spiritual gifts .. he gave gifts to men .

Ephesians 4:8

8;Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. preaching is a gift teaching is a gift singing for the glory of God is a gift. i fail to see the gifts of the spirit no longer existing .. no offence to the pentecostals or baptist ..but many think spiritual gifts makes you pentecostal . what does the bible say ye shall what? receive power !

Acts 1:8

8;But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. power from who the spirit for what reason to be a witness where did the spirt come from? Jesus the giver of the gifts in who we worship. Gift are for the edifying of the Church.. not to brag what gift you have. like your something special ..

some will say what about tongues .. even they are used today.. the 50 million dollar question is the tongues used today the same Bibibcal tongues used in paul day.

i listened a excellent message yesterday from donnie swigert on perilous times . at the end he said he wasn't happy satisficed where he was with his walk with Christ.. he then proceeded say we needed a outpouring like took place .the day the pentecostals refer to ..

personally i feel there is more to the outpouring than tongues ..that is me but as i always say that doctrine belongs to them.. i am ok with it just as long as they dont say they are right and i am wrong.

if we want revival then start drawing nigh close to God acuire the all consuming fire the refiners fire that will burn the dross ..junk..sin out of us. ..amen or o me

I highlighted the part that is prevalent for TODAY.... God does indeed STILL heal His sick children.... but it is HIM DIRECTLY... according to HIS mercy and HIS purpose.

There is NO such thing as someone with the "gift" of healing... or the gift of "prophesy" in this modern age. That is my opinion. I'm not sure what that makes me.... but we are RICHLY blessed on a DAILY BASIS with many GIFTS from God. Just go for a walk and look around.

Indeed the Lord can still heal and do miracle today, but we cannot force Him to do such, as many word of faith appear to be commanding and telling the Lord what He must do for them

Pentecost was a unique one time event, not repeatable

AGreed.

It means that the "Sign Gifts" given to the Apostles in Mark 16 were given to them and only them and are not available today for ONE REASON......There is no one who qualifies to be an Apostles today!

Agreed. God heals today but NOT through the ministry of a man.

James 5:13-14...........
"Is anyone among you sick? He should send for the church leaders and they should pray for him. They should pour oil on him in the name of the Lord. The prayer given in faith will heal the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven."

Yes, God heals through answered prayer of His children not the manipulations on a man or woman demanding that God heal someone.

The farce we have seen over the last 75 years or so, Faith healers, TV healers are all charlatans and frauds playing upon the hearts of people who are uneducated and at their wits end.

What we see from these men are grandiose displays of manipulative parlor tricks meant to line their pockets and fuel their celebrity? One of the biggest criticisms and pieces of skeptical “evidence” brought against faith healers is that many people claim they were not actually healed at their events despite the televised proclamations of random strangers being cured. Follow-up stories reveal people still suffering from their diseases weeks later, or even dying shortly after an event.

Good morning, YeshuaFan and Major;

Agreed.

I have heard Charismatics, the Word of Faith and Pentecostals proclaim boldy to me, Name it and claim it! Here's my refute (by the prompting of the Spirit,) "What does God say about it, first?"

I refute them in love. Should they respond emotionally by pushing back, it breaks down their proclamation by reacting in defense.

Name it and claim it
have brought about disaster. A good friend and brother in Christ stopped cold from taking his meds and insulin to combat his diabetes. A couple of years later I officiated his funeral.

Another family had accumulated a house and two new cars, immediately. Within time they claimed bankruptcy.

I asked a couple over dinner, do you believe anybody can have the spiritual gift of healing? They gave a resounding YES, Bob! What kind of a question is that?!? Many whose loved ones were sick rebuked the couple because they believed them.

I'm not condemning these people fiercely for their faith, but feel sorry for the misleading from their teachers, and continue to pray for gained knowledge, wisdom of the Truth, God's Truth.

God bless
you both.

Bob

God will not share that power to do miracles and healings with any today, as none meet biblcal qualifications, and so many times those into that stuff seem to be elevating their leaders to being almost "little gods"

It gets downright stupid in those circles, like when oral Roberts 'saw" a Jesus as bog as a mountain, who told him to him to start oral roberts hospital, and yet their cure rates in there are no different from any hospital regarding diseases, and also remember when he needed 4 million for support to keep his network around, was going to starve himself in the tower, but then a dog racing friend footed the bill

"Downright stupid" is a good phrase.

The people who are doing such activity in Jesus’ name are typically Pentecostals or heavily influenced by Pentecostalism.

Faith healers we observe, are therefore often act like showmen, scream inappropriately, practice emotionalism in other ways, believe that nonsense tongues are the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and work with and justify women pastors.

What is amazing and startling is that so many people continue to fall for such ridiculous things.

And there is the difference between YOU and me. I stopped defending those people a long time ago. I do condemn what they are doing!

There is NO such thing as a man having the gift of physical healing today!!!

All of The faith healers turn their alleged healings into a show as they twist the Bible. The common faith healer methods of getting mildly and moderately ill and disabled people to briefly think they have been healed through hypnosis, other psychological techniques, and subtle tricks have been well documented.

The faith healers have their own variations of claims about why people are promised healing, how they are supposed to receive it, and different explanations about why it doesn’t happen to those who heed them and why the healing that seemed to happen didn’t stick.

I guess the thing that bothers me the most is their total lack of accountability! The one most likely to get blamed when things don’t go as promised is the person who is still sick or injured (even though they totally heeded the faith healer). The faith healers are then more likely to blame Jesus for the failure than they are to blame themselves along with their false healing doctrines and practices.

They have done more to harm the cause of Christ than has Satan.
