ANY here hold to Genesis not being literal historical Book?

This is going off topic. But years ago, I was working on installing a computer in an office. I was under the desk plugging cables in, and something hit me. It was like having my soul lit up. At the moment, I knew everything. I understood why everything was the way it was. I could not ask a question because it all made perfect sense. I continue to finish my job and left. On the way home, it hit me what happened. It was all gone, and the only thing I remember was the line "Jesus knew truths," and I knew it. I dont have faith in it. I know it to be true.
I never really talk about it. And sometimes I forget it happened.

I am still sorting the rest out.
You turned purple on me... I thought we had a new member join while I was away. HAHA

Your story reminded me of my experience at the lake 4 years ago.... My soul also lit up and I was instantly "aligned" with who I was as a Christian. All it took was knowing that I was truly loved by God and EVERYTHING fell into place after that in a split second.

We are ALL sorting the rest out. God bless you my brother who lives not all that far away from me... :D

The odd thing for me. I dont know how true the bible. But I know in the very center of my being, Jesus is real. and have absolute faith in him. It is everything else I have trouble with, and I am still working out.

My dear friend....think about what you just said.

"I dont know how true the Bible is..............But I know in the very center of my being, Jesus is real."

Do you understand the paradox of that statement??? The One and ONLY reason/way you know anything about Jesus is found in the Bible!!!

If the Bible is not 100% true in every way then it can not be 100% true in who Jesus was/IS.

That is why its vital to hold to an infallible and fully trustworthy bible

The canonical answer when it comes to the Bible is 'all or nothing'. That may well serve the church, which has a vested interest in controlling people, but it's inadequate to anyone seeking the truth. In no other avenue of learning do we hold such black and white thinking. It may well be that we must take it all without question. The onus then falls on the teacher to explain exactly why this is so.

Does it matter if it is facts or stories? The important thing is that God included it in the bible for us to learn from. I don't know how much is true or a fact.

In electronics, we use a thing called abstraction for calculations. We could use Maxwell's equations( lots of calculus, I mean, pages).
So instead of using 3 pages of calculus to solve a problem. We use Ohm's law, which turns the 3 pages of calculus into one line of algebra. The answer is not perfect and not as accurate. But it is good enough. It gets the job done.

Genesis is an abstraction. It is not the absolute truth. But it is something a simple human can understand. (without their brain exploding). :)
The main problematic issue we face in Genesis 1 is the Law of Relativity with regard to the stated time periods. Without a human observer, there could be no 24 hour days, but with a Divine Observer, there could be astronomical days.

Interesting! As the philosopher George Berkeley put it: "esse est percipi (i.e. "to be is to be perceived").

Well said and I agree!!!

My main reason for not accepting the bible as infallible is that people don't see beyond the words. It is a list of rules to find ways around to do what they want. Dont like a group of people, look here, the bible says they are evil. I can hate them.
They see only the words. God is in between the words and lines.
Each line is GOD communicating His thoughts and desires. You need to read it with your spirit to translate for your mind.
The logical (left side) of your brain cannot understand God's word. You need the right side or creative side, of the spiritual side.

I came to Christ after I became an artist. Because before that, I was all left/Logical brain.

I think people get hung up on the concept of "infallible". The Bible is the mind of God, given to man. It's not a history textbook. It makes no claim to be fact-checked and peer-reviewed. It is a vehicle to allow us to know God, and for 3000+ years it has been doing just that, and very well may I add.

I am sorry to be the one to tell you tins my friend, but that is NO reason at all!!!!!

If you truly can not believe that the Bible in infallible and contain errors, it’s unlikely you’ll accept them as completely divine.

John 3:12.......
"If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?"

Yes.

The Bible is NOT a history book but is does contain history.
The Bible is NOT a book on the Creation of man but it does contain creation.
The Bible is NOT a book on math, however it does contain a lot of mathmatics.
The Bible is NOT a book on biology, however it does contain a lot of biology.

As "learning to go" said......It is a vehicle to allow us to know God!

My dear friends, when you say "infallible" do you mean inerrant? The Bible is inerrant because it is without error but can be used as a tool to teach false doctrine and therefore would not be considered infallible. Infallibilty suggests that no matter what the interpretation, the true gospel message will get thru. And we know that's not true by the many false teachings of our modern day.

This is similar to my point above. People misuse scripture all the time but even though is misused and misinterpreted, it can remain without error.

Definitely without error but can be used in a way that would rule out infallibility.

The bible though claims for itself to be the inspired and infallible word of God to us, as how could the Holy Spirit have made books with mistakes and errors in the originals?

We see it as being inspired to us by a perfect God, so why not his revelation to us in the originals also had been perfect and without errors?

Satan from early on wanted mankind to doubt the veracity and truth of the bible as being the very word of God , and fully trustworthy in all that it affirmed

Would say the the originals were inerrant and inspired, as there were NO errors nor mistakes anywhere in those books, but that in the Greek and Hebrew texts and in the translations based upon them, have an infallible bible, as while has known variants and textual issues, we still have trustworthy witness to the very revelation of God to us in his holy words
