Favorite Bible Commentator

Here I thought the OP was asking for our favorite Bible commentator. Silly me.
Well, he did make significant comments about the bible throughout his life.
I imagine in your own perspective, it does not make him a "commentator" and thats ok.

Hey crossnote and thenami;

Before today's social platforms the minister was "specialized in one role" like Billy Graham, Dr. J Vernon Mcgee, etc...

Guys like Paul Harvey (for sake of example) specialized in commentaries.

In these times commentators are a "part of the package" of the preacher / teacher / evangelist, etc...all directed at God's Word.

God bless everyone.

C.S. Lewis

Good explanation per usual brother Bob.

We did sorta’ go a bit far afield into the more prominent voices vs. the traditional that parsed verses and expositions in print blame that on morphing me.

Guilty.

Since the electronic media age commentary avenues have expanded.

Hello everyone;

I'd like to share my thoughts.

Pastor Ravi Zacharias, a minister from the past. I remember he was in ministry for 40+ years (or more?) I know he got caught up in public allegations and media criticism.

But so did my mentor
Pastor John F. MacArthur. He was a Calvinist Baptist Pastor and long time pastor for 56+ years at the same Church. He was also caught up in public allegations.

Pastor Gene Scott is another name from the past. He served God for 50+ years and though I didn't agree with all his doctrine regarding marriage, (name me someone in ministry we all agree 100%) he was a human being who did the Lord's work.

I don't know much about
Dr. Scott Pauley but he accomplished much in his academic discipline and received his MDiv and DMin. preparing him for the Lord's work in evangelism.

Going back to my commentator Pastor John MacArthur, in 2020 when Churches in California were ordered to lock down because of COVID, I submitted to the order so our Church met on ZOOM for a few months. I remember Church members who logged on with their pjs, bathrobes and a cup of coffee.
👺Grrrrrr!

When the county allowed us to gather again in the sanctuary it was tough getting the members to show up on time.
Yet, MacArthur defied the California order and continued to meet in Church. Later he was ruled in favor of the Supreme Court to hold indoor services.

I didn't agree with all Pastor MacArthur's doctrines. Serving as a Pastor is a tough gig. But early in my studies at seminary and his 1991 book, The Master's Plan for the Church, inspired me to receive the calling in the Pastoral ministry.
God bless everyone.

Oh my gosh Bob, you did it, what I've been waiting for 35 years on these forums, Someone to bring up Dr Gene Scott in a positive light without me doing it first. I'm so happy right now. you made my day.

I will further freak people out as far as TV guys explaining verses…

I used to watch The Shepherd’s Chapel.

Yeah yeah yeah am odd!

The thing that set Dr. Gene Scott apart from every other teacher was his understanding on Faith. He's the one who uncovered the BAD or mistranslation of the Greek word pisteuo.

He always said that the word "believe" in the scriptures being mistranslated, should be a first day at school lesson for every pastor. But absolutely no one knows about it. So it puts all those teachers into another column without that understanding.

I had an experience 38 years ago. It took me 20 years to find someone whos teaching could validate it. It was Dr. Gene Scott that did it, validated something very special. He's always in my thoughts and in my heart.

And Gene Scott, huge CS Lewis fan!

Sweet memory Faither!

I recall the folks who give me the epiphanies the very most.

Our pastor teaches each week something new I have always wondered about.

Not to mention he answers my odd questions in entirety with text and emails.

We cherish those kinds of giving peoples.

Thanks mabel lean:
Satan has just nuked Gene Scott online with negativity. Gene Scott had a different way of teaching. The cigars, the funny glasses, the grumpy exteriors, the hard teachings he presented all had a reason. And that was if someone couldn't get passed those things, they couldn't see the the value hidden behind them. He used those things to cull out the ones that wern't faithing correctly. Culling the herd so to speak.

I don't know of a single person that likes him, but i consider him to be the only gifted teacher i have ever known, and i pay attention.

Thanks again Mabel lean.

Enjoying The Journey

YF,

Fair assessment.

Not a simple read to be sure.

What I respect of Gill is his lifelong dedication to The Word and the less muddied influence of what we modern followers of I AM must contend.

I was “baptized” (aka sprinkled) as a Presbyterian baby.
The more I have learned about the heresy of The UN World Council of Churches the farther I ran from Presbyterian USA fallen leadership.

When I was shaken by the knock ✊🏾 s I fled finally to being baptized in a river with junior high youth.

I may attend a local church not entangled with session pressures or the horrors of UCC but am not a member labeled Presbyterian.

I choose to say I follow I AM. No denomination designation other than part of the fellowship of the Bride Church of The Great GOD Almighty I AM.

May GOD correct me if in err. Which He certainly did, does, and will do. Being pruned!

I leave His judgment of my heart as He knows me better than I know myself.

IESOUS CHRISTOS is the heart knower.

Amen.

~ Mabe
Gill was a good theologian and commentary, but to me as a Calvinist, at times he went off into more extreme Hyper form of Calvinism
