An Indepth Bible Study In The Book Of Genesis.

"And let there be light".....I'm probably wrong (?) but perhaps it means that God created the perception (of the physical world) to be able to see His light? When I was 22 (thereabouts), I had spent the night cramming for a final and after the test, I went to my fiance's apartment to get some sleep. He was typing a report in the kitchen. As I was settling on his bed, to sleep, I noticed something happening in the corner of the room. It was like a growing whirlwind of stained glass light. I had spent a semester in art school, making recipes of color fragments, so I knew color. But there were known and unknown colors cascading. I 'heard" I Am....I finished shocked, God......And I was filled with indescribable bliss/joy/love. I had to tell someone. I flew down the hall to the kitchen, and collecting myself, I was watching my fiance type a sentence, when I realized the perspective was wrong....that I was floating above him. As soon as I thought that, like a rubber band released, I flew back to the bed. I never lost consciousness during all of this. Now, I went running down the hall, shouting the sentence he'd been typing. And so I had a witness to my out of body experience. And that's what I thought for 20+ years. That the out of body was real...and my vision of God was a dream. After that experience, my favorite color was teal (the color I post with) because I remember most it's vibrancy. Perhaps, off the topic, a bit, and for that I apologize, but I can't help thinking that the image of God breathed into us is about that kinda light.
That's so cool!!! I've never told anyone this, but one night while my wife was brushing her teeth I was praying in the spirit and I had such a desire to be in the Throne room of the Lord and I felt me leave my body, but as soon as my hips were about to join me (I was laying flat and it was like I was sitting up but my physical head never moved) I snapped back like a rubber band! I've never experienced it again :( Thanks for sharing Silk! :) I felt like that's what Ecclesiastes 12:6 is talking about!

We are all, each and everyone, God's "favorites" and His awesome love for us is beyond our ability to understand. I'd like to say that the experience changed me and I went and evangelized and sinned no more. But... Talk about slow motion slow on the uptake - I didn't truly understand that I had "seen" God until I was in my early 40's, when someone asked the age old rhetorical question, "who has seen God?" (standard answer: no one) when I heard a voice saying, "well, you did, didn't you?" (Doh). And even then, the mystery of why it had happened deepened. Then, just before I turned 60, I saw the colors again. I had done what so many people do, continued to sin and using comparison with others to justify it. (I'm not as bad as him/her). But, I see the light now, with more understanding and clarity these last 3 years. We all live in a priviledged time, where age old prophecies are unfolded. We need the light to be able to percieve this. At the genesis, God said, "Let there be light." The end is in the beginning and vice versa.
I agree, @Abdicate, on the silver cord.

Yes @Arrie03, beyond any human comprehension, truly how great thou art.
I don't think we have a hope of finding truth and reality without the "light" of God. In all things...."Let there be light". And it is important to differentiate between that light, and the light of the sun, moon, stars.

Ok, I see that as a possibility. I'm thinking of God creating something that does not now exist. To create out of nothing. In other words, the person who was maimed, without a hand that was cut off in a war, Jesus created a new one, not taking the old one and putting it back in working order on the person, but a new one.
Dear Brother Chopper, God's work of creation continues as He works in us. I read in Psa 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Now physically the universe is said to be expanding, or are we simply through the mechanics of newer technology discovering formally hidden universes to us.

Bless you brother in Jesus' name. :)

May 14, 2015 Genesis 1:9 & 10 Creation Continues with Earth and Seas.

Gen 1:9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
Gen 1:10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

Albert Barnes with his "Notes on the Bible" has been one of my favorites because of his unmatched length and quality of his writings. This should prompt some dialogue.

Gen_1:9
"Let the water be gathered to one place; let the ground appear. - This refers to the yet overflowing deep of waters Gen_1:2 under “the expanse.” They must be confined within certain limits. For this purpose the order is issued, that they be gathered into one place; that is, evidently, into a place apart from that designed for the land.
Gen_1:10
Then called God to the ground, land. - We use the word “ground” to denote the dry surface left after the retreat of the waters. To this the Creator applies the term ארץ 'erets, “land, earth.” Hence, we find that the primitive meaning of this term was land, the dry solid surface of matter on which we stand. This meaning it still retains in all its various applications (see note on Gen_1:2). As it was soon learned by experience that the solid ground was continuous at the bottom of the water-masses, and that these were a mere superficial deposit gathering into the hollows, the term was, by an easy extension of its meaning, applied to the whole surface, as it was diversified by land and water. Our word “earth” is the term to express it in this more extended sense. In this sense it was the meet counterpart of the heavens in that complex phrase by which the universe of things is expressed.
And to the gathering of the waters called he seas. - In contradistinction to the land, the gathered waters are called seas; a term applied in Scripture to any large collection of water, even though seen to be surrounded by land; as, the salt sea, the sea of Kinnereth, the sea of the plain or valley, the fore sea, the hinder sea Gen_14:3; Num_34:11; Deu_4:49; Joe_2:20; Deu_11:24. The plural form “seas” shows that the “one place” consists of several basins, all of which taken together are called the place of the waters.
The Scripture, according to its manner, notices only the palpable result; namely, a diversified scene of “land” and “seas.” The sacred singer possibly hints at the process in Psa_104:6-8 : “The deep as a garment thou didst spread over it; above the mountains stood the waters. At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away. They go up the mountains; they go down the valleys; unto the place that thou hast founded for them.” This description is highly poetical, and therefore true to nature. The hills are to rise out of the waters above them. The agitated waters dash up the stirring mountains, but, as these ascend, at length sink into the valleys, and take the place allotted for them. Plainly the result was accomplished by lowering some and elevating other parts of the solid ground. Over this inequality of surface, the waters, which before overspread the whole ground, flowed into the hollows, and the elevated regions became dry land. This is a kind of geological change which has been long known to the students of nature. Such changes have often been sudden and violent. Alterations of level, of a gradual character, are known to be going on at all times."

charac

What is meant by "charac"?

It is said we live on a watery planet (meaning? mostly water). Your post points out that underneath the water is...land. If you look on a map, you can kinda see where the continents all look like they were cut out of the same source. It is said that the land was different before the flood. The planet changed. And continues to change. It is not an original idea to say that the earth is a living organism. The land can get tired. There are earthquakes, volcanos, tsunamis, polarities that we are told can change. Is weather created at the same time? Stray thoughts....

Sorry about the stray word "charac", it shouldn't have been in there.

Weather? Very good question! Lets see if anyone knows.

The light created is "energy". Now this energy God called “Day”. The word Day means day, time, or year. The word Night means night, enclosed space, or protective shadow. Seeing how this can’t be the Sun’s light (created in day four) the word Day is best translated as time. Night is then best translated enclosed space, or protective shadow, Colossians 2:17. This space encompasses all of heaven and the universe. All things created, both seen and unseen. In other words, with the division of “light” and “darkness”, God created what scientists call today the space-time continuum.

Now we have the word firmament which means a vault, an expanse. God created three vaults, or containers, called Heaven: the abode of God and spirits, Job 1:6-7; Mark 16:19, outer space, Genesis 1:14, and the atmosphere of the Earth, Genesis 1:20. (The Jews believe that are actually seven levels of heaven.) Read it like this: “Let there be a container in the midst of the atoms to divide the atoms.” This is the division of the separating the atom, the transitory things (waters). This is the creation of Earth’s boundaries, separating the atoms of the Earth from those in outer space. Right now this is just an empty container.

The word gathered is the word (קוה) and means to bind together. So God bound together the atoms into one place within the container specified in verse eight and dry land appeared, and the word appeared means one upon another. The waters were bound together and the land was put one upon another. We call it strata. How wonderfully specific is the word of God!

1 Corinthians 15:27-28 (KJV)
For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under [him, it is] manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

Colossians 1:16-17 (KJV)
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

That last part of the verse “by Him all things consist” literally means “by Him all things are held together”. Jesus is the wisps of energy that the scientists found that seem to bind together all the atoms of the universe. Jesus holds it all together “…that God may be all in all!” Jesus is in every atom in the universe!

Great post @Abdicate. Space-time continuum is way bigger than weather, I must admit. (grin). I forgot we are still on the first day. Too soon for weather. Too soon for the angels/heavenly host?
The word of God doesn't say anything about God's abode and how it was created... at least that I can find. A lot went on we know that much.

When God said, "let there be light" I believe the New Testament tells us exactly what God was referring to when he said that.

2Co 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

The Lord God knowing man would fall into sin, before he even created man, prepared ahead of time his grace so that man would have no excuse not to believe he exits. God shinning his light into our hearts was the "grace" that has "appeared" unto all men that brings salvation.

Tit 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

To those who accepted this grace by faith (saved by grace through faith) they are now called the children of of the "light" and of the "day" which is what God called the "light"

1Th 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

Hmmm interesting take on this.

Hi can I join? I read everyone's posting last night and found it every interesting. I never ever been on a forum so I hope I did this right.
Here goes. ..
1/1, God created heaven and earth
1/2, the earth was without from and void
-- without form no shape, not solid
--- void emptiness,nothingness
The Spirit of God was hovering above the face of the waters..
(Silk's point) Nature.com .......By reconstructing conditions in the disk of gas and dust in which the Solar system formed, scientists have concluded that the Earth and other planets must have inherited much of their water from the of clouds of gas from which the dun was born 4.6 billion years ago. ....
-- So God was hovering above the face of waters --- ice is frozen water.
-- so you have formation beginning, note earth was without form
1/3. Let there be light and there was light. .. the sun wss formed.
1/4 ,5,God separated the light from the darkness and called it day and night
1/6. Let there be an expanse in the mist of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters
-- dust particles with ice in heaven and dust particles with ice on earth
1/7. God made the expanse and separated the waters
-- water (ice) in heaven
--' water (ice) earth
1/8. God called the expanse Heaven
1/9. God said Let the waters (ice) under the heavens be gathered together into one place.
-- here's were the earth was formed -sun rays melts thr ice, a canopy over the earth holds Sun's warmth -melts ice and get Water.
And let the dry land appear
1/10. God called the dry land Earth and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas..

fun fact.. Saturn's rings spews jets of water...

To extend into @Abdicate's welcome; if you have any questions, please PM any staff member.

Once again, welcome aboard.

I agree with my hero Abdicate....And a very warm welcome to CFS as well Markey4. As we progress in Genesis, we will discover so very much information that we have either forgot or didn't know. There is so much history of how the Nation of Israel was founded and the Patriarchs were established with their families, is foundational to understanding how the Old Covenant (NT) came into being.

I'm glad you decided to join us. Pull up a chair and enjoy!
