Anybody else preparing for rising prices and possible food scarcity?

I purchased a spare 20 pound bag or rice... that's about it as far as preparation...
Well, that is actually quite good. It will keep you going in case of emergency.

Maybe a few cans of chicken or meat, and you're set!

A good tip is to buy just a little something extra to put away every time you go shopping, Every bit helps.

Blessings.

As far as the whole issue goes,

how likely will this inflation carry on for?

I remember the 2008 financial crisis, which apparently crippled the economy , although if you ask me how, I do not know. I can't even say I struggled whilst this was happening.

what can we expect to happen? inflation never really gets beyond about 3 percent.

Maybe. I will look into it. Space is another issue. It's not a large balcony and my cats and dog-like resting out in the sun.

Growing a garden would be much easier if I had a house, but that's just not in the cards right now.
I agree - our fur-babies need their spot in the sun. They are more important than plants :).

Anyway, the idea is to prepare according to our individual situations - there is not one specific way to go about it. Do whatever works for you personally.

Blessings.

Hi Via dolarosa -

There is no way of knowing where this is all leading. There are so many contributing factors such as the Ukraine War, the rise in gas prices, droughts and floods in many places in the world, shipping delays, sanctions etc.

The global economy is experiencing an increase in inflation, but some countries are definitely doing better than others. According to the US Inflation Calculator (https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/) inflation in the United States is currently 7.9% - the highest since 1982. (The CPI Calculator states that the trailing 12-month CPI rate in the US is 7.87% https://www.officialdata.org/).

Another interesting chart shows 2022's inflation rate for several countries: https://www.officialdata.org/countries

Genesis 41 teaches us about the pharaoh's dreams which warned about the coming famine, and advising the Egyptians to store grain. Today we can see danger signs, so it won't do any harm to get ready for possible difficult times. There is no need to go overboard, though, but acquiring some skills and stocking up on some essentials might be a good idea.

Blessings.

Why would you individually need to stock up? Beyond what you ordinarily do. It's the retailers/supermarkets job to do that in their storerooms. Not everyone has the space to do all that or the money to buy in bulk.

If you don't live near a market, yes, but that's the whole reason there are warehouses and barns. They are the ones handling the distribution, and it's not likely they will close. Unless you personally have a huge coolstore, cellar, and miles of shelving.

Yes keep some aside for emergencies and rainy days, but don't go overboard. If you panic buy, and hoard there won't be much left for anybody else.

That would be ideal, but unfortunately they don't always carry enough stock, and as I mentioned, there are other contributing factors. (And don't forget the fact that people panic buy when there's trouble. Better to be prepared beforehand.)

We cannot rely on governments, stores and others to help us when things go south. Ever.

I have suggested to do what you are able to, not overdo it, etc. We can only do what we can, but anything is better than nothing. We can also learn many new skills by watching YouTube videos - gardening, changing plugs, sewing, etc. - it's free.

Obviously not everybody will feel the need to prepare, and that is absolutely fine. This thread is meant for those who do feel a need, and who are interested in this subject.

Above all we need to stay close to God, and rely on Him.

What do you mean they don't carry enough stock. Do you work in retail or ever worked in a warehouse or factory or distribution?
Or helped at a foodbank? A lot of the time they actually have surplus and they need to sell it to clear it. Shortages are only happening because there aren't enough workers to distribute the goods OR they are being hoarded and are not reaching to the people who need them.

If there is a drought or the crops fail in one area, the point is to not rely too much on one thing. So vary your diet and grow what you can.

Untill the next election.

If Biden is reelected, then it will be 2028 at least.

Well......I am old enough to remember 1974 and Jimmy Carter.

Inflation was 15% then! Double what it is now. But tomarrow is just a day away.

Could you please rephrase your question in a nice way? I want this thread to be helpful and pleasant.

Thanks.

Hello Via;

Good question. From where I stand I don't forecast the time frame of inflation and how long it will carry on for. Here's why.

I'm also in the mix of inflation and since America's fall of our market in 2008, our new home purchased in 2006 in Arizona went under big time!
We didn't know how to process this and it frustrated us so much that we quickly blamed the country's leaders.

After our freak out we got a grip and then prayed that the Lord, who sees everything, would open our eyes and guide us through. As we prayed He guided us through this mortgage by hiring a property manager to rent our home out. This became a blessing and opportunity for the families who were seeking a reasonable place to rent.

Meantime, we were also residing in our 1st home paying our first mortgage.

How we were able to get past this financial crunch is beyond Hazel and me. We decided not to keep score on the inflation and by 2019 we sold our Arizona home, paying off both mortgages and put what was left in our savings.

Today is different. Inflation is hitting us from all sides on all four corners of the earth. But each day the Lord puts food on our table, provides our necessary utility expenses, gas, and watch our entertainment costs very carefully.

I wish things were not so tight as we are entering our golden years of retirement. But it was only 20 years ago after 911 that we had totally different social trends and financial difficulties. Still, the Lord got us past it.

Matthew 6:25-34, 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Let's all diligently pay heed to this passage. It really works!
