I have stuff to do at home, so if the schools were closed I would be fine with it. Parents ought to spend more time with their children anyway. I wonder how a whole week closure of everything would affect them but if people's health is at risk then the govt will do what it has to.

My boss in my other job says they will have to take the loss of business. I would rather be alive and poor than dead and rich.

Well, I assume that a whole week off would result in people not being able to pay their rent, utilities, food, etc. They would be together, but hungry, cold, and in the dark.

We still have no one with the virus here in my county, but I suspect it is only a matter of time. They have already cancelled two major yearly public events for this month and I suspect more of that is coming.

This area is big on tourism, so the financial impact will be great. This is a major seaport for cruise ships and I suspect that visitors to South Beach will be less. The Ultra Music Festival usually (canceled) has around 70 thousand visitors (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra_Music_Festival) . The Calle Ocho Festival (also canceled) has close to one million visitors (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calle_Ocho_Festival).

well..landlords will have to allow for their rent not being paid ay? Food you can grow, body heat and clothing people have (you just put extra layers on when you are cold...people have lived without heating before) and just go to sleep when it gets dark.

If the whole country is going to stop then what are you going to do? Insist that people still keep going? Do you need a festival when people are sick? Are you caring more about your finances when you ought to be caring about your health??

You can lose a lot of money you could make more later or find some but if you lose your health you don't have anything.

I've never bee to either festival, so I was not advocating for either. It is; however, a major source of income to many that work the festivals. Personally, I understand why they are doing this. I think it is warranted. As fort the farmer john thing, people living from pay check to pay check would not be able to grow anything in time to make it have any value.

Now not just Italy but its export goods are being affected..
"Making things more complicated is a lack of knowledge about the virus's true risks and whether it is spread, for example, through exported goods.

Industry groups and policymakers have signaled incidents of importers of Italian goods in other EU countries seeking additional certification that the goods are virus-free.

The Coldiretti agricultural lobby on Wednesday said that “unjustified documentation” had been requested from importers of aged cheese in Greece, lettuce sent to Poland and fruit to Kuwait, while shipments of Italian-grown apples are blocked at the border with Ukraine.

Coldiretti also said its producers had reported "numerous cancellations without good reasons that struck an entire range of ‘Made in Italy’ foodstuffs, from wine to cured meats.’’....https://abcnews.go.com/Travel/wireStory/virus-outbreak-hits-weakened-italian-economy-hurts-69451678

A great deal has to do with how long the virus survives outside a human host. It's all about the type of surface and the temperature. Looks like 24 hours is the window, but we really do not know for sure.

We have to keep all of this in perspective. If we tracked the flu this way, it would really be an ugly picture. "So far, the CDC has estimated (based on weekly influenza surveillance data) that at least 12,000 people have died from influenza between Oct. 1, 2019 through Feb. 1, 2020, and the number of deaths may be as high as 30,000." https://www.health.com/condition/cold-flu-sinus/how-many-people-die-of-the-flu-every-year

You all have a blessed Sunday. I am off to church, otherwise known as a very very large gathering of people. Wash your hands and don't pick your nose.

I know I am being redundant...…..but you are correct.
Just got back from church. We can house a total of 1,300 people. The first service has less that 250. A little better for the 10:45 service, but I counted close to half the seats empty.

rtm3039
I hate to hear that.

We do not seat near that many people. We seat about 250 and attendance was down about 10%, however when we looked deeper at just that this morning, we saw that the Virus was not to blame.

We saw that The regulars who were not there were not there for other reasons.

My wife did not come yesterday because of back problems.
Two couples left to go on vacation.
Two other couples had family come in from Tenn. so they stayed home with them(???). To mr that should never be an excuse to miss church!
One had back surgery Friday and another hand Hip replacement surgery on Thursday.
Another elderly lady had chemo and was in bed.
Another lady just came home from the hospital.

We actually could not see anyone who did not come because of the virus.

However, we did install 3 more hand sanitizers in the auditorium and we did not do our usual "Fellowship Moment", just to be on the safe side.

Our fellowship Moment is a time of about 5 minutes where everyone gets up and walks around and greets other people with a hug or hand shake while the choir sings in the background.

A lot of people here are in panic mode. Buying up all the TP and water they can find. It's like they getting ready for a hurricane! I'm not worried about Covid19. News has gone crazy with fear mongering. Best preventative maint is to wash hands OFTEN, don't rub eyes nose or mouth without WASHING hands. The pharmaceutical company I worked for could not stress this enough. This is the peak of flu season anyways. All this I just said should go without saying. Stay healthy, don't worry be happy. God bless all you guys 🤟

I'm limiting my gathering times. I don't understand the TP frenzy but seems like people aren't stocking up on important things like...BOOKS.

Its sad the amount of racism I keep hearing. Not directed at me personally but just ignorant people telling others who don't look like themselves where to go. I am so over it.

We normally open up[ the balcony, when all 1,000 first floor seats are filled. This time, we opened te balcony because we had more than one person state they did not want to sit with the general population.

I hear ya, but take the following in its proper context:

By October 1918, the United States had been an active participant in World War I for more than a year. And while the declared enemy was overseas, there was a killer working stateside as well. Cities were gripped with fear: school was canceled; theaters, places of worship, and other places of “public amusement” had been shuttered. That month alone 195,000 Americans died, making it the deadliest month in American history; the killer was none other than influenza.
Though the pandemic lasted just 15 months, 500 million people worldwide fell sick and it killed between 3-5% of the world’s population. (https://www.ecohealthalliance.org/2...MI3ZHYt5aO6AIVTf_jBx0QQgbvEAAYASAAEgIY7fD_BwE)

Ok, help me out Lanolin: How did this take a turn to racism? I have no issues with your remarks, just having a problem connecting this with "Coronavirus spreading around the world."

Are you saying that placing a temporary block on people from certain countries from entering other countries to limit the possible spread of this virus is an act of racism?

I don't know what you are specifically referring to, but I've been seeing quite a few articles/news about people, even children, getting bullied/attacked simply because they may be Asian... and people are hurting them because of this whole virus outbreak... it really is heartbreaking. Like there isn't enough problems to go around as it is.

We should all continue to keep this in our prayers.

Hi. I will have to look around, because this is the first I have heard of this. It sounds silly enough to be true. If so, that's just sad.

Please pray for us...
Just keep in in perspective. First, states will declare a state of emergency as soon as they can justify it. They do so, because declaring a state of emergency opens up a large amount of funding from the federal government. Florida did it, right after the first two deaths. Second, during the 2018 – 2019 flu season, NC registered a total of 208 flu deaths. No one ever reads about this, as we have accepted the flu as something we just have to deal with. I believe NC has 10 flu related deaths this season.

This does show how connected we all are. Your first case was associated with the long-term care facility in Kirkland, WA. The second connected with the outbreak in Italy. The third connected to one in Georgia and the last five associated with a conference in Boston with more than 24 other people contracted to the same conference. In theory, each infected person infects at least 3 others, so your 7 might have infected 21. That 21 infected 93 and that 93 infected 270.

We all need to pray, because it is going to get much worse before it gets better. But, it WILL GET BETTER.
