Food For Thought

Here again my points about modern Christian's conscience.
Dirty: I only have a problem with justification of current gun oriented Christians in pointing to the ancient Hebrews and claiming that since they killed and conquered nations, they can pack heat. They can do what they want, but I find it untenable to drag the OT into it.

This sort of logic was used to justify slavery in pre-American Civil War times, because the Jews had slaves.
This sort of logic is used by polygamists today, because some Jews were polygamists.

I think the use of carnal force is a matter of a Christian's conscience and counsel with the Lord Himself, not by a gun club, or political lobby.

Well, if that wasnt your intention, then I apologize, but the way several of your posts were worded, it seemed like you were insinuating them. I am not angry, nor do I wish to convey any anger, or attack in anyway, and if it came across as such, I do apologize. I admit, I tend to debate very straight forward and somewhat "aggressively" I normally, edit my posts 2-3 times before hitting the post button, to try to edit out the worst of the aggressiveness-but it still gets through. So, I apologize if I said something that offended you-it wasnt my intent, its just the way ive always debated-not justifying it, its a weak point of mine, just trying to explain the thought process.

I wasnt trying to call you arrogant-or anything like that-just that the thought process you were going through (or thought you were) anyway, seemed arrogant to me, and I apologize if it came across as an attack, it was not my intent. I am not an angry person, its just the style of debating im used to, and among my friends is actually nice (you should see some of the debates we get into, they get downright viscious, however, we always go away from them with equal respect) I do realize that I cant, or shouldnt debate with other people I barely know, the way I do with my close friends-which is why I do so much editing-but it does slip, I do apologize. And if I bold certain words, its not that im angry, its just I want to emphasize certain points.

As for my suggestions? to which do you find disturbing? because I meant what I said about not ignoring the principles behind the law. I know this is a seperate discussion, but I know, the early americans used the Israelite law as justification for slavery-and it wasnt right, but it wasnt because the law had no point, it was because the early americans, ignored the principle behind the law. Lets look at slavery in the Bible, according to the law, slavery in the hebrew nation, was actually more of a mistranslation, indentured servant, is probably a closer meaning. The slaves, were, by the law, well treated, had certain rights, and were freed after 7 years. A slave, at such point, could choose to be permanently indentured to the person-but it had to be the slaves choice. The slaves of the Bibe, of OT law, were treated with respect, and as human people. The slaves in early american times, even by the best slave owners, were treated as property, to be bought and sold at will, with no rights whatsoever, and were enslaved for life, regardless of their choice. Most slave owners did not mistreat their slaves, but neither were they respected as people, either.

Just because a certain group of people misused a passage of scripture for their own gain, does not mean that that scripture does not apply today in any way or form, it just means that group of people misused scripture. They were looking at the "law" and ignoring the "principles" behind the law.

Apology accepted...I'm not here to debate anyway, but just state my Christian opinion, that's all.

Yes: folks misusing Scripture is my bedrock point.

Thanks for you intelligent apology...much appreciated.

Well...........I have a Remington shot gun in my office at home, a 357 S&W in my truck and my wife has a 38 Police Special with one of those new laser lights on it.

We go to the gun range about every month, church 3 times a week.

I believe and expect the Lord to protect us in every way, but just in case He is having lunch, we are prepared.

Now.............what was the purpose of this thread to begin with???????

I just feel that God gave us tools with which to protect ourselves with. No, he didnt "create the gun" but he did give man a brain smart enough to develop such tools, and know how to use them responsibly.

Rusty,
I'm sorry for falling behind but I had my last tooth with hooked roots extracted and, just like the other three, the broke my skull where the tooth attaches and I've been in to much pain to care. Now, with the excuses in file thirteen, you told Major, that something was not God's plan a and I must take issue with just that idea.

From a thorough read of the scriptures we learn that God knows us before we are born and I must, being a Baptist, agree with Baptist doctrine where God knew the beginning and the end of all things before the Earth ever was. Now, from New Testament study we know the Perfect Will o9f God is that none should perish but that all should repent and be saved. So, we know that God keeps track of us, right down to the number of the hairs on our heads.

From the Old Testament study of David we know that God has a plan because He reveals part of it to David and in Genesis we see God reveal part of it to Satan, Adam and Eve when He speaks of the Savior bruising the head of Satan. So we can see, with prayerful yielding of our spirits to the Holy Spirit as we read that the Unchanging God (Mal. 3:6) can not, nor does He, have a plan b. This Biblical fact is where the Five Point Hyper Calvinists come up with the errant understanding of Predestination. I do not intend to run down another Rabbit Trail on that subject but only to use it as an example.

God only has one plan and He never changes any of it. It's important to remember, when we read the record of God's dealings with man, that, in the eyes of God, we are like sheep. When a man works sheep he learns to use one word for the action he desires because sheep are simple minded and in the same respect, when we see things like God relented, we must remember God is making the thing easy for the Simple Minded Humans to get a grasp but the truth is that He never intended to take any other action but, rather, He was also teaching Moses, you, Major or me a lesson and we just needs to get our picks and shovels working to mine it out.

God bless.

AMEN!! The only reason we are seeing this mess, today, is the lack of parenting. We set our offspring in front of a 53 inch HD TV with the latest kill and slaughter video games and take them to or rent the latest War or Gangster movie where they see the dead actors the next week in another Disaster movie and then we wonder where they get these ideas from.

Back to your original post: I believe we are about to reap what we've sown. The population in general has abandoned our HOLY GOD and gone after mammon whether it be the 'education' cult as I call, work to be rich, or just try to get every handout you possibly can--the USA is in deep doo-doo.

Christians are not standing up-while the 3% of the population that claims to be homosexual have cornered the market on our media outlets and 'marriage' law debate. So without deviating too far off topic-I believe the overwhelming agenda at play in the US politics and economics is that of the devil.

And then we have the 'don't judge others' mentality so "compromise and tolerance" abound. We need soul winners, we need to remember the cause. Dads need to be dads, moms need to be moms. We are becoming slaves to the lender.

We will be judged...

I so agree with you. My class this morning was on the First Kings passage on Mount Carmel and since these New Covenant and New Testament so despise the Bible Jesus taught from, I doubt they will ever get the lessons for good parenting.
