HALLOWEEN!

not that it really matter .but i fail to see kids having in a clean manner no costumes of any thing satanic in nature same with churches provide a safe environment.. clean fan i have no idea who come up with car trunks and trunk or Street ..most of it is named fall festival .

all i can say for those who are %100 against anything for kids trick or treat ..shoot its not safe for kids go out anymore.. unless you stay with neighbors you know.. but if any of it goes against your convictions.. then dont have anything do with it . but dont brow beat those who say if its clean fun and a church sponsored event .

what happens if a Church as a fall festival holoween night and they use something in scripture to have a game.. a child gets saved? hnn i know impossible . we like christmas presents and birthday presents ..thats not Bible either.. my whole point is we just need work out our own salvation with fear and trembling

I went to Winner's yesterday with my niece and I was shocked to see how much Halloween merchandise they were selling... BASCIALLY... everything in the kitchen wares department was some kind of ghost or pumpkin.

We have a second hand store here called Value Village... and they go over the top with costumes and accessories.

What I am noticing is how the retail stores are starting earlier and earlier to put stuff out.
I love the Value Village. We just cleaned up the house and sent a couple of boxes of books and stuff to them. You call them, and they come and pick it up.

My sister gets weekly coupons. She and my mother just came back from there. Most of my work clothes I got there.

Hello, forgiven;

We did sit down with my wife's brother and wife regarding their daughter who was 5 years old at the time. We explained the history of Halloween, my experience as a child who went trick or treat in America, it's intent and the Biblical teachings.

Their sons also went trick or treating when they were boys up until 12. Today they are both 19 and 21.

I still remember the conversation at the dining table, mostly me speaking that evening. But this Halloween will be the 4th year our niece is going to trick or treat who is now 8 years old. She goes at first sign of dark with her parents and is home by 7pm.
She usually dresses up as a princess and this year she is going in a female Japanese kimono.

It's usually the same neighborhood year after year so the home owners know our niece. The owners who don't participate leave their porch light off.

Here's our situation. We love our niece, share the Gospel to all who cross our path and lay the seed upon many. Some who don't listen and maintain practices may not glorify God.

Hopefully it will sink in as God waters the seed in so many different ways beside Halloween.

God bless you, Jerry.

Bob

its not going to hurt her see no matter the history of it.. as Christians we can turn into something good,, yes years ago they use toliet paper trees soap windows with a bar soap.. sometimes back in the old days move outside toilets'.. i am opposed to that all i am trying to say is let kids have fun..its not the date not the name that made it bad.. its the events that took place that made it evil..

i fail to see how dressing up in say a princess costume or boy say in a super man costume with a mask on is evil.... its just not there,,
i compare it to going to walmart where you can buy alcohol of any type 7 days a week/24/ hours a day... does that make you a partaker of evil ? let kids have good clean fun..trust me it will not send them to hell.

just dont celebrate halloween as evil turn it into good i am against haunted hoses anything that represents evil.. we have the authority in jesus name to turn in to fun .the worse thing is kids get tummy aches eating to much candy or cavities in there teeth. due to not brushing ..

trust me i have done a lot of things in my life that was not good.. but none of it was due to Halloween. everyone is straining at a qnat while gaging at a camel...

my watched couple mennonite children once.. they watched funny cartoons... the mennonites are against all that. we can get so religious no halloween no christmas tree no plays no easter eggs . yet allow beer commercials on our t,v in our house.. or watch t.v show they say cuss words or use suggestive language.. how many has laughed at a off color remark.. ? i am sure no one will admit it.. does it glorify God

As I am reading all the comments and different opinions... I am taken with how sensitive of a topic this seems to be with believers.
It's NOT as straight forward as one would think for a CHRISTIAN.

Logic would suggest that the CHRISTIAN should boycott ALL things that go AGAINST CHRISTIAN practice. YET... these issues that arise... beginning with Halloween... and then CHRISTMAS and EASTER seem to snowball into this very conversation EVERY YEAR.

Hallowe'en in my opinion is a whole different ball game.... AS children out grow in short time the magic of believing in Santa and the Bunny.... there is NO DAMAGE DONE to that child for falsely believing for that brief time..... I understand especially the MAGIC that happens at CHRISTMAS time for a CHILD... and NOPE.... I would NOT want to be the ONE who is the GRINCH for stealing ANY CHILD's JOY away.

BUT... there is something about Hallowe'en that STICKS with a child into adulthood and it gets more evil over time.
JUST the fact that it is a celebration at NIGHT in the DARK bothers me. The fact that children are allowed to knock on strangers doors and ask for CANDY... and then those candies are GLEANED through for POISON and apples for razor blades????.... WHY???? It's like INSANITY to me. I just don't understand this holiday at all... and I cannot make any EXCUSE for it like I can for Christmas and Easter. That is me. I CHOOSE not to celebrate HALLOWEEN. I don't place this on ANYONE else. My conscience will not allow me to ACKNOWLEDGE this day because of its' ties to the OCCULT.

It is what it is... and this is an age old dilemma. One that we will have to face next year also.

As for me... I will be at Margaret's house with one of my favourite dogs... WE will go out for supper and then we will watch a nice movie at home with tea.... NO tricks or treats. Just an evening spent with a friend.

I agree with your well thought out responce. May I also say here that what anyone does is not my problem. What anyone thinks is not my problem. What anyone does is between himself and God as they will stand in front of Him to give their explination, not me.
All I do is teach the Word of God and it is totally up to God to convict and cause repentance.

I have to be careful here as there are some that believe Bible teaching and anything that challenges their personal thinking is brow beating them. I understand that process as actually it is the conviction of the Holy Spirit through the presentation of God's Word that causing that reaction.

So, allow me to get down to the bottom line as ask this........should a Christian participate in Halloween?
Is there anything evil about a Christian dressing up in an innocent costume and going around the block asking for candy as it is just clean, innocent fun...right?

Bible truth is that Halloween is mostly a western custom and it has no direct reference in the Bible.

Now lets do some down to earth, common sense country boy Bible teaching! As a logical thinking person, with common sense and able to go to the bathroom by yourself, consider for a moment what you are celebrating and what Halloween is all about.
Is the holiday uplifting? Is Halloween pure? Is it lovely, praiseworthy, or of good report?
What has God said in Philippians 4:8.......
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”

Is Halloween based on godly themes such as the idea of peace, freedom and salvation or does the holiday bring to mind feelings of fear, oppression and bondage, witchcraft, death, demons and ghosts?

Now then, does the Bible sanction witchcraft, witches, and sorcery? On the contrary, the Bible makes it clear that these practices are an abomination to the Lord.

The Bible goes on to say in Leviticus 20:27 that anyone who practiced witchcraft, soothsaying, sorcery should be killed.
Deuteronomy 18:9-13 adds, “When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you ... one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord.”

Now when anyone reads those clear, easy to understand words from God, how do they walk away and say, well I support it no matter what God says!!1!

Look deeper at what God says.......not what I say in Ephesians 5:11......
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”

The Bible, the Word of God is calling us to not only have no association with any type of dark activity BUT ALSO to shed light on this topic to those around us. As I have stated before...... Halloween was not exposed by the church for what it was, but rather was incorporated into church holy days. Are Christians responding in the same way today?

What do YOU think God has been doing for thousands of years???? He has been and is calling humanity to follow Him and to “come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you” (2 Corinthians 6:17).

If....If God can not convince His church to read and follow HIs direction, how can we then expect the world to be any different than it is right now?

That was my point in stating that Halloween is a different type of occasion altogether. THERE is nothing BIBLICAL or even ETHICAL about it in my opinion. It is a festival for the NON-BELIEVERS. NOTHING about Halloween is BIBLICAL and therefore in my estimation... it is a holiday for CHRISTIANS that should be IGNORED and SHUNNED.

Like you.... my thoughts are my thoughts... I refuse to participate in this occasion. and I actually leave my home to have a nice dinner and sleep over at my friend's house who does NOT have treats for the kids.

When I was a non believer... I did NOT like HALLOWEEN and now that I am a believer..... I HATE the occasion DEEPLY.

That is about all I can say about HALLOWEEN.

I can be accused also of making COMPROMISES to my FAITH..... on lots of topics actually so.... I am stating this so that my opinion is NOT seen as HOLIER than THOU...( which I actually don't care but... just saying ).

My faith is not perfectly lived out... as I will allow for SANTA to take the center stage for a small child....because I feel the MAGIC that happens at this time of year is so IMPORTANT for the WONDER and AWE of a CHILD.
As I pointed out before.... I don't feel there is ANY damage that comes of letting a child go through the phases of simply being a CHILD... and SANTA is one of those things. The Easter Bunny... I never did give him any credit... but I did hide chocolate around the house when my daughter was little. Finding our chocolate was a big deal.

SO the above are examples of where I HAVE compromised... and I am OK with that... BECAUSE.... WELL.... just BECAUSE.

NO judgement... but just DON'T come to my house for Halloween because.... YOU will get NOTHING. HA.

Yes, it is the candy on his teeth! Halloween must be a dentist's Shangra-La.

@forgiven61 , what is your conviction about taking your kids to a magic shop for a little clean fun? What would be the difference between that and Halloween?
and don't get me started on the WITCHERY/APOTHECARY that opened in my city about 6 months ago. I was tricked into walking in there before the signage was up because there was a GOLDEN RETRIEVER sitting at the door. I just about lost my hair when I found out what the place was.... like SERIOUSLY??? I told the guy in mid sentence that I was sorry... I had made an error in walking in because as a CHRISTIAN I do not have permission to be in there... and I high tailed it out of there.

Yes mam......we all can be and are guility of compromising with our faith. I am as guilty as anyone else.

Several years ago, my wife went berserk when she found out that I liked the movie "Full Metal Jacket" after she tried to watch it.
After the 1st 15 minutes she turned it off and told me that she could not believe I watched it and liked it.

I explained to her that I knew it was hard and it was a compromise, but it is also exactly what I went through in the military. It was just that hard and it allowed me to realize that I went through something very difficult and came out better for it.

We, (Wife) gave gifts at Christmas, we always had Easter dinner but we never promoted Santa or the Bunny man. Our children were taught what both were and what they actually were and not what the world has made them.

I am right there with you. I am not judging anyone in any way......that is not our job here on this earth.

Now some with say that we are but that is because of the conviction that they are feeling and has nothing to do with what we say.

You said something very profound..........
"BUT... there is something about Hallowe'en that STICKS with a child into adulthood and it gets more evil over time."

I am NOT talking about my opinion. According to the Bible, the world of the occult is real and energized by demonic powers.

Just like marijuana is a door way to cocaine and alcohol is a doorway to other drugs, The door of the occult world must be entered through human interest and choices.

Ghosts, demons, devils the dark side of spiritual life always speaks to the fleshly side of kids because they do not know any better. It feels good, it is fun and I get free candy is what they think.

, what is your conviction about taking your kids to a magic shop for a little clean fun? What would be the difference between that and Halloween?
let me ask you this what is your conviction on going into a store that sells alcohol.. we went to krogers this morning and i went to walmart past 2 days.. i have no idea what a magic shop is .. i am not going to in what is i mean serious there is more things more evil than halloween , does anyone know how to NOT give the devil his due.. i have a brother in his early christian ministry took out his t.v .. i know folks who will not play cards or shoot a game of pool.. its associated with gambling .. i use love play spades in person and online.. dont care much for it anymore . tell ya all what give me a bunch kids on halloween night have them come to church for a night of fun and games. bobbing for apples .. a hay ride hot dog roast and marshmallows.. my advice follow your convictions and i will follow mine. i even watch the great pumpkin on charlie brown lol

halloween can be evil IF THAT is what a person wants the bible says abstain from the very appearance of evil .. how many shop at walmart they the corp supports abortion lgbt movement , it was mentioned marijuana is a door way to cocaine and alcohol is a doorway to other drugs,

it can but not always i know folks who has smoked pot never done cocaine a day in there life. i am one of them i know a man who walked into the local BAR sit down with his bible at a table.. very true story he was a missionary baptist preacher .. did that make him evil? the story goes the party went dead the bartender asked him to leave and he did..
...
there is a limit as per what one does Halloween becomes evil when evil things are done by people who chose to do evil...

trust me in my early years id one Evil.. but it was not because of halloween .. do we really abstain %100 of the time.. i use go to a guys house that had the symbol of satan in his celling. it never caused me to do evil things.. i bought weed from him and smoked with him.. because i made the choice.. once again if a person feels there family should not do hallowen so be it. if you can teach your kids just go out get candy do nothing evil or look devilish . its all good once agin getting the candy is not evil.. eating it can do bad things if they eat to much .

almost everything in this world is evil related . i find it disturbing to have a security team in place in a house of worship.. there are idiots who will attack a church.. a church house should be sacred but not everyone treats it sacred... btw this post has NOTHING to do with me being convicted

once again if a person feels there family should not do hallowen so be it. if you can teach your kids just go out get candy do nothing evil or look devilish . its all good once agin getting the candy is not evil.. eating it can do bad things if they eat to much .
Your missing the point.... I don't have a problem with others who celebrate things... I am responsible for myself.

The issue isn't simply wearing ACCEPTABLE costumes... and NOT doing BAD things ( like egging people's houses )

The issue is the ORIGIN of HALLOWEEN. I think this thread has established that Halloween is birthed from the OCCULT.

The question asked is SHOULD Christians be celebrating this holiday? So... to throw in all these examples of Walmart etc is going off topic.

You have established that you are ok with kids going out to collect candy. That is a choice... and it is between YOU and GOD.
