HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... Apparently... BOB was not made AWARE of the EXPERIMENT.I noticed your post was lined out and edited it.
What sort of things??I love when things happen!!!
I love the Value Village. We just cleaned up the house and sent a couple of boxes of books and stuff to them. You call them, and they come and pick it up.I went to Winner's yesterday with my niece and I was shocked to see how much Halloween merchandise they were selling... BASCIALLY... everything in the kitchen wares department was some kind of ghost or pumpkin.
We have a second hand store here called Value Village... and they go over the top with costumes and accessories.
What I am noticing is how the retail stores are starting earlier and earlier to put stuff out.
and a agree with this its a great time to do just thatWe hand out tracts and present the gospel to the kids in the main auditorium after they get their 'treats"
not that it really matter .but i fail to see kids having in a clean manner no costumes of any thing satanic in nature same with churches provide a safe environment.. clean fan i have no idea who come up with car trunks and trunk or Street ..most of it is named fall festival . all i can say for those who are %100 against anything for kids trick or treat ..shoot its not safe for kids go out anymore.. unless you stay with neighbors you know.. but if any of it goes against your convictions.. then dont have anything do with it . but dont brow beat those who say if its clean fun and a church sponsored event . what happens if a Church as a fall festival holoween night and they use something in scripture to have a game.. a child gets saved? hnn i know impossible . we like christmas presents and birthday presents ..thats not Bible either.. my whole point is we just need work out our own salvation with fear and trembling
its not going to hurt her see no matter the history of it.. as Christians we can turn into something good,, yes years ago they use toliet paper trees soap windows with a bar soap.. sometimes back in the old days move outside toilets'.. i am opposed to that all i am trying to say is let kids have fun..its not the date not the name that made it bad.. its the events that took place that made it evil..Here's our situation. We love our niece, share the Gospel to all who cross our path and lay the seed upon many. Some who don't listen and maintain practices may not glorify God.
Hopefully it will sink in as God waters the seed in so many different ways beside Halloween.
I agree with your well thought out responce. May I also say here that what anyone does is not my problem. What anyone thinks is not my problem. What anyone does is between himself and God as they will stand in front of Him to give their explination, not me.As I am reading all the comments and different opinions... I am taken with how sensitive of a topic this seems to be with believers.
It's NOT as straight forward as one would think for a CHRISTIAN.
Logic would suggest that the CHRISTIAN should boycott ALL things that go AGAINST CHRISTIAN practice. YET... these issues that arise... beginning with Halloween... and then CHRISTMAS and EASTER seem to snowball into this very conversation EVERY YEAR.
Hallowe'en in my opinion is a whole different ball game.... AS children out grow in short time the magic of believing in Santa and the Bunny.... there is NO DAMAGE DONE to that child for falsely believing for that brief time..... I understand especially the MAGIC that happens at CHRISTMAS time for a CHILD... and NOPE.... I would NOT want to be the ONE who is the GRINCH for stealing ANY CHILD's JOY away.
BUT... there is something about Hallowe'en that STICKS with a child into adulthood and it gets more evil over time.
JUST the fact that it is a celebration at NIGHT in the DARK bothers me. The fact that children are allowed to knock on strangers doors and ask for CANDY... and then those candies are GLEANED through for POISON and apples for razor blades????.... WHY???? It's like INSANITY to me. I just don't understand this holiday at all... and I cannot make any EXCUSE for it like I can for Christmas and Easter. That is me. I CHOOSE not to celebrate HALLOWEEN. I don't place this on ANYONE else. My conscience will not allow me to ACKNOWLEDGE this day because of its' ties to the OCCULT.
It is what it is... and this is an age old dilemma. One that we will have to face next year also.
As for me... I will be at Margaret's house with one of my favourite dogs... WE will go out for supper and then we will watch a nice movie at home with tea.... NO tricks or treats. Just an evening spent with a friend.
Now lets do some down to earth, common sense country boy Bible teaching! As a logical thinking person, with common sense and able to go to the bathroom by yourself, consider for a moment what you are celebrating and what Halloween is all about.
Is the holiday uplifting? Is Halloween pure? Is it lovely, praiseworthy, or of good report?
What has God said in Philippians 4:8.......
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
That was my point in stating that Halloween is a different type of occasion altogether. THERE is nothing BIBLICAL or even ETHICAL about it in my opinion. It is a festival for the NON-BELIEVERS. NOTHING about Halloween is BIBLICAL and therefore in my estimation... it is a holiday for CHRISTIANS that should be IGNORED and SHUNNED.Is Halloween based on godly themes such as the idea of peace, freedom and salvation or does the holiday bring to mind feelings of fear, oppression and bondage, witchcraft, death, demons and ghosts?
Yes, it is the candy on his teeth! Halloween must be a dentist's Shangra-La.BUT... there is something about Hallowe'en that STICKS with a child
and don't get me started on the WITCHERY/APOTHECARY that opened in my city about 6 months ago. I was tricked into walking in there before the signage was up because there was a GOLDEN RETRIEVER sitting at the door. I just about lost my hair when I found out what the place was.... like SERIOUSLY??? I told the guy in mid sentence that I was sorry... I had made an error in walking in because as a CHRISTIAN I do not have permission to be in there... and I high tailed it out of there.Yes, it is the candy on his teeth! Halloween must be a dentist's Shangra-La.
@forgiven61 , what is your conviction about taking your kids to a magic shop for a little clean fun? What would be the difference between that and Halloween?
Yes mam......we all can be and are guility of compromising with our faith. I am as guilty as anyone else. That was my point in stating that Halloween is a different type of occasion altogether. THERE is nothing BIBLICAL or even ETHICAL about it in my opinion. It is a festival for the NON-BELIEVERS. NOTHING about Halloween is BIBLICAL and therefore in my estimation... it is a holiday for CHRISTIANS that should be IGNORED and SHUNNED.
Like you.... my thoughts are my thoughts... I refuse to participate in this occasion. and I actually leave my home to have a nice dinner and sleep over at my friend's house who does NOT have treats for the kids.
When I was a non believer... I did NOT like HALLOWEEN and now that I am a believer..... I HATE the occasion DEEPLY.
That is about all I can say about HALLOWEEN.
I can be accused also of making COMPROMISES to my FAITH..... on lots of topics actually so.... I am stating this so that my opinion is NOT seen as HOLIER than THOU...( which I actually don't care but... just saying ).
My faith is not perfectly lived out... as I will allow for SANTA to take the center stage for a small child....because I feel the MAGIC that happens at this time of year is so IMPORTANT for the WONDER and AWE of a CHILD.
As I pointed out before.... I don't feel there is ANY damage that comes of letting a child go through the phases of simply being a CHILD... and SANTA is one of those things. The Easter Bunny... I never did give him any credit... but I did hide chocolate around the house when my daughter was little. Finding our chocolate was a big deal.
SO the above are examples of where I HAVE compromised... and I am OK with that... BECAUSE.... WELL.... just BECAUSE.
NO judgement... but just DON'T come to my house for Halloween because.... YOU will get NOTHING. HA.
You said something very profound..........As I am reading all the comments and different opinions... I am taken with how sensitive of a topic this seems to be with believers.

let me ask you this what is your conviction on going into a store that sells alcohol.. we went to krogers this morning and i went to walmart past 2 days.. i have no idea what a magic shop is .. i am not going to in what is i mean serious there is more things more evil than halloween , does anyone know how to NOT give the devil his due.. i have a brother in his early christian ministry took out his t.v .. i know folks who will not play cards or shoot a game of pool.. its associated with gambling .. i use love play spades in person and online.. dont care much for it anymore . tell ya all what give me a bunch kids on halloween night have them come to church for a night of fun and games. bobbing for apples .. a hay ride hot dog roast and marshmallows.. my advice follow your convictions and i will follow mine. i even watch the great pumpkin on charlie brown lol, what is your conviction about taking your kids to a magic shop for a little clean fun? What would be the difference between that and Halloween?
Your missing the point.... I don't have a problem with others who celebrate things... I am responsible for myself.once again if a person feels there family should not do hallowen so be it. if you can teach your kids just go out get candy do nothing evil or look devilish . its all good once agin getting the candy is not evil.. eating it can do bad things if they eat to much .
