meaningless trials

Jesus trial was NOT meaningless.
Jesus submitted to his Father. If you think Jesus had to 'activate' Gods promise but never suffer and die, well...obviously dont know what taking up your cross means.

Course God is our father who blesses us, he blesses us through our trials. You think Jesus was not blessed when he went on the cross? his father had told him in front of everyone when he was baptised ,this is my beloved son in whom Im well pleased, and told everyone to listen to him!!!!

Yep, Jesus drank that cup he didnt want to but he went on the cross, and it was Gods will.
He bowed down and actually said 'thy will be done'

Paul was whipped stoned and beaten as well cos of preaching about Jesus. He was put in jail. All sorts of things happened to him.
You think Paul wasnt blessed even when those things happened?
You think..God could have just stopped it all? And let him have a happy blessed life without all those trials and tribulations? Not a chance. The christian life is not a bed of roses all the time. Much of the time its pretty rough going actually!!! But we have peace through it all cos we know God is for us, how can he be against us? If we truly believe we can take the bad times with the good.

I have not heard this activation of promises. Scripture means what it says, those who LOVE GOD.

All things work together for those who LOVE GOD those who are the called according to his purpose.

Big moose im sorry but you missed out a whole chunk of verses in your scripture quotation. You cant just cut and paste scripture like that it is very deceiving.
Read the whole chapter especially from verse 28 onwards.

Sheep to the slaughter? You missed that part. You missed a whole heap.
Did you notice that I said, "Some of my most favorite verses:"?
I quoted chapter and verse so anyone could look up all the verses in between.
If I had pasted all the verses in between, it makes for a vvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyy long post and muddies the water, making it difficult to get the uplifting verses Pancakes may need. We are to encourage, exhort, not tear down or discourage.
Paul, Peter and James all pulled bits of scripture out to make a point in their letters to churches. Three of my favorite encouraging verses happen to be in Romans 8. But if you need to see the rest, here is all of chapter 8:
8 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus,a]">[a] who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Sonship Through the Spirit
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

From Suffering to Glory
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. 23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. 24 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.

26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for usb]">[b] with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

God’s Everlasting Love
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:

“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”c]">[c]

37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

36 As it is written:

“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”
And so Paul doesn't get criticized for his quote of one verse out of Psalms 44, here is the whole chapter:
44 We have heard with our ears, O God,
Our fathers have told us,
The deeds You did in their days,
In days of old:
2 You drove out the nations with Your hand,
But them You planted;
You afflicted the peoples, and cast them out.
3 For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword,
Nor did their own arm save them;
But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance,
Because You favored them.

4 You are my King, O God;b]">[b]
Commandc]">[c] victories for Jacob.
5 Through You we will push down our enemies;
Through Your name we will trample those who rise up against us.
6 For I will not trust in my bow,
Nor shall my sword save me.
7 But You have saved us from our enemies,
And have put to shame those who hated us.
8 In God we boast all day long,
And praise Your name forever. Selah

9 But You have cast us off and put us to shame,
And You do not go out with our armies.
10 You make us turn back from the enemy,
And those who hate us have taken spoil for themselves.
11 You have given us up like sheep intended for food,
And have scattered us among the nations.
12 You sell Your people for next to nothing,
And are not enriched by selling them.

13 You make us a reproach to our neighbors,
A scorn and a derision to those all around us.
14 You make us a byword among the nations,
A shaking of the head among the peoples.
15 My dishonor is continually before me,
And the shame of my face has covered me,
16 Because of the voice of him who reproaches and reviles,
Because of the enemy and the avenger.

17 All this has come upon us;
But we have not forgotten You,
Nor have we dealt falsely with Your covenant.
18 Our heart has not turned back,
Nor have our steps departed from Your way;
19 But You have severely broken us in the place of jackals,
And covered us with the shadow of death.

20 If we had forgotten the name of our God,
Or stretched out our hands to a foreign god,
21 Would not God search this out?
For He knows the secrets of the heart.
22 Yet for Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

23 Awake! Why do You sleep, O Lord?
Arise! Do not cast us off forever.
24 Why do You hide Your face,
And forget our affliction and our oppression?
25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust;
Our body clings to the ground.
26 Arise for our help,
And redeem us for Your mercies’ sake.

It is often helpful to look at issues from the other end of the telescope. If you are looking in the wide end, everything is from a narrow perspective, you see very little. Look in the other end and see the big picture.
How can we appreciate the good times if we don't have the bad? If we have nothing but good times, it becomes mundane. Overcoming our trials makes us wiser, stronger.
Just like building muscle. You work out, which tears down the muscle. When you rest, the muscle comes back stronger.

Please everyone, rightly divide scripture. I really dont mind reading it all. It does NOT muddy waters, it makes it all clearer.

Remember a lot of new believers here who might not have read all the bible.

You didnt say in your post that they needed to read the whole chapter, you just assumed they had or would look. A new person would have just thought you quoting the bible as stated not knowing you missed out verses IN BETWEEN. Cos we dont read out the verse numbers. It looked like one passage tacked together.,

Big Moose missed only two verses of the entire passage from verse 28 onwards!! Why are you being critical of his post?

Romans 8:28 pretty much sums it up.

I dont know you guys are arguing over it. I am not making anything up...but you abidcate seem to get all het up about things if nobody sees them exactly your way. And then start arguing over and over about it to try and prove your point. Same with you King J in response. Its ugly and not christian.

Pancakes you trials are not meaningless. If you love God they are not. Remember He loved you FIRST.
True, I get upset with you because I cannot follow your utter randomness and then you say things about what I've said that I didn't say. I just can't figure you out or understand you at all.
