I’m more or less asking because I have noticed that the more engrossed in politics a church is,the more likely it has left off the Great Commission of spreading the Gospel.

Politics in the pulpit should stay out. the issues at hand should be. i tell the congregation pray about it vote for who you think you should. that is a s far as it goes . i am against politicians speaking from the pulpit

Politics and the Church, do they mix?
None? Integral? Nothing here?

The law of churches not being able to speak to the Political leaders came from none other than LBJ who was a Christian hater!

For the past 60 years since this anti-Christian holocaust legislation was pushed through Congress by none other than Christian-hater Senator Lyndon Baines Johnson.

Facts are that IRS has taken away or threatened to take away the churches 501(C)(3) status if Christians refuse to bow down to government demands to not preach politics from the pulpit. Of course this is a unilateral slave chain restriction that applies only to Republican preachers; the Democrat preachers can and do preach Socialist politics from the pulpit without molestation by the federal government. Just ask Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and an of the legions of Socialist-Progressive groups that every 4 years flood Black churches with plantation politics to keep the masses enslaved to the Democrat Socialist Party into perpetuity or the now popular "Black Lives Matther".

Now. love him or hate him, then President Trump on May 4, 2017 signed a controversial executive order on May 4 that the White House says "promotes free speech and religious liberty."

That executive order was aimed at making it easier for churches to participate in politics, seeking to deliver on a campaign pledge to a community that overwhelmingly backed in him in last year’s election.

The order, which Trump unveiled with great fanfare in a Rose Garden ceremony, was cheered by some conservative Christians but seen as a disappointment by others, who said it fell short of the broader changes they wanted as part of a highly anticipated measure on religious liberties.
The order, Trump said, removes the financial threat faced by tax-exempt churches from the Internal Revenue Service when pastors speak out on behalf of political candidates. But some experts said it amounts to a mostly symbolic gesture with little likelihood of changing how the agency polices the issue.

I will tell you this fact. IF a Pastor speaks against a President, he will lose about 1/2 of his congregation! That is a fact!

If a Democratic President, lets say he commits adultery and then lies about it and the Pastor condemns him, 1/2 of the congregation will be in an uproar.

Is that because they like adultery and lying. NO! They are democrats and that means more to them than preaching the Word of God!

So then......what is a Pastor to do???????

2 Timothy 4:1-6.............
"I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with all great patience and instruction. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, 4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. 5 But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry."

Preach the Word of God until the blood runs down the isle and let God sort of the chaff!!!!!!

Personally.......I believe that is what is going on today. Church attendance is down all over for the last 50 years because God is SIFTING the believers from the MAKE believers.

Mattew 7:22-25.......
"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

I found out that some churches have politics.

I was like noooo but they wouldn't let me vote. I was just a minority...

We have a conservative pastor here in So Ca. (will go unnamed) who is against legislating religious freedom because it ends up giving the cults and false religions "equal rights". He believes God and His Word is sufficient for both reaching the lost and providing 'freedoms' for the Church, without the Church having to rely on Ceasar. Ironically, he pushes political buttons as if taunting a snake.

I think that he is my brother!

Sadly some Churches put their church polity above their faith.

I have made some people really mad over the years and I am glad!

When speaking on ABORTION and the legalization of HOMOSEXUAL marriages I quoted them......Proverbs 24:9-12..........
"The devising of foolishness is sin, And the scoffer is an abomination to men. If you faint in the day of adversity,
Your strength is small. Deliver those who are drawn toward death, And hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.
If you say, “Surely we did not know this,” Does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it?
And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?"

That means that when WE (anyone) votes for a person who tells you that women have a right to kill their unborn child or marry a same sex person, they are as GUILITY as the person you vote for. YOU knew that the person you voted for was for ABORTION and to then say you are a Christian is impossible. WHY????????

(1 Jn 3:4-10)............
(1) Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness.
(5) You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin.
(6) No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him.
(7) Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous;
(8) the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.

What this means is that the word “practices,” = a continuous action can be used in these verses in 1st John. In addition, if we use “practices,” rather than “do” or “commit,” it eliminates the idea that......"I did not know excuse".
Yes, all Christians sin, and are sinners, but Christians do not “PRACTICE” sin!

they worship the denomination. denominational politics is very much alive. i sometimes think baptist are about the worst. but back to the o.p. politics does not belong in the pulpit and nor does politicians campaigning . the issues at hand should be spoken on and a call to prayer

IMO, politics is inescapable in churches.

The real problem is that people do not want to talk to each other about them. Everyone feels the need to shout their opinion as loudly as possible, and cut off contact with those who disagree with them or argue instead of just talking.

People refuse to so much as entertain the idea of a compromise and would prefer to resort to ad hominem attacks and childish insults rather than actually try and find a solution that would make most people happy. Under such circumstances, it is no surprise that many pastors are wary of bringing up political topics or that Christians are reluctant to allow such discussions to take place in church.

That IMHO is whay so many churchs when they have a business meeting, it turns into a WAR!

Whether we like it or not...... politics are a part of life!

Our church is 3 miles from Stetson University. As such we have always had students come and participate.

When controversial issues come up, Most everyone loves to hear exactly what the Bible has to say about the issues of the day. They may want to form their opinion of the issue based on what Scripture suggests. Finding out exactly what the Bible says, however, can be difficult for a layman to do when they are trying to apply wisdom from millennia past to purely modern issues.

Remember, neither Jesus nor the prophets, after all, ever had to have a debate about net neutrality or systematic Chinese thefts of technology. As such, the average person may not be clear on what a biblical response is to those issues. If the issue is discussed in church, they would get to hear exactly how the Bible suggests handling a political problem, or hear one potential interpretation of how to apply Scripture to a modern issue.

Example.......
Murder today was murder 6000 years ago.
Stealing today was stealing 6000 years ago.
Adultery today was adultery 6000 years ago.
Homosexuality today was homosexuality 6000 years ago.

Years change and words change and situations change but standards do not.

Politics and holiness don't mix. In Matthew chapter 4 and Daniel chapter 10, we can see that the real ruler of this world's governments is Satan. That means that EVERY government of EVERY country in this world is ultimately controlled by the devil. Participating in worldly government is participating in the work of Satan. It's like a church owning a brothel. The state of modern society is evidence enough to prove that Satan is in control of our governments throughout the world. Google how many countries recognize homosexual marriage. The result will surprise you. Almost every country in the world and the UN recognize them. Only the Mohammedans are holding off.

Although I think ad hominem attacks are a bad idea, I get nervous with the issue of compromise. It always seems to involve the old Hegelian theory with it's thesis/antithesis leading to a compromised synthesis which tends to drag truth (or what's right) from it's original position.

How do you respond to those who say we need to be salt (a preserving influence) in the earth as a justification for the Church to be involved in politics?

I agree totally when it comes to doctrine and Bible truth.

What I was more talking about was when situations come up like......."the color of the new carpet".
Or ....what brand of refrigerator to buy.

Those are just THINGS and in the end do not mean anything anyway. However, some stake out a position and come hell or high water they will not be moved.

Then the question must be........do we as Christians roll over or do we stand and speak out the truth of God's Word?
