Sex before marriage

To all who review this thread, please know that I do not believe in sex before marriage, I am trying to find biblical scripture when people tell me they feel it is all right to do so and inquire why I don't feel it is right for me.
As Yeshua said, (and I mentioned in Post#4) fornication is forbidden, and there are tons of Scriptures forbidding such...

1 Thessalonians 4:3 (KJV) For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

Colossians 3:5 (KJV) Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

Ephesians 5:3 (KJV) But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

To name a few.

Crossnote.. More "good stuff". ☺thank you

Yeshua's Post# 24 and Belinda quoted Yeshua's in post#26 but didn't write anything
God never approved of sexual relations between those not married, or those already married, but engaging with someone else spouse!

crossnote's post#27

Belinda quoted crossnote's post#27 twice

crossnote, I don't know what happened but post#26 did display.

Rowan and Martin's "Laugh-in", I remember it very well. I was around 20 then.

I have discussions with Christians who believe that sex before marriage was fine. I've seen passages about man and wife...but not about,....friends with benefits.
I,do not believe in sex before. Marriage. Can you find some scripture with confirms this?Not about engaged couples...but between friends

Are you certain they are Christian?

Perhaps they need to know more about our faith in general..

Hello Belinda;

You ask a great question. After reading the posts sprinkled with Scriptures, it can be hard to explain.

So, here goes. When my wife and I met the very first evening, it was with a group of friends, most she had known since childhood. I had to leave back to the United States and said goodbye.

When I got back home I had been seeing a nice lady. We were friends for 5 years and then started dating months before I met my wife. We went to church together. She was 29 years old and lived with her parents. She told me she was a virgin so I respected her for that and took her home after every date. We never spoke about getting married.

Before my wife and I got engaged, I went back overseas and told her about the girl I was seeing and she hated me for that, but understood we had been dating before I met my wife.

When I got back to the United States I told the girl that I was dating that I got engaged. She hated me for that, but understood that we didn't see marriage in our future.

I learned the Psalms during my young adulthood. One that stood out was Psalm 27:14,
14 Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!

This Psalm doesn't teach specifically about sex before marriage but I always felt marriage is a gift and sanctification by God. Making love to my wife after we got married kept the bed pure and holy. God would be pleased because we waited for Him. The temptation was incredible but the blessings was only imaginable.

I was 27 years old then, and didn't know if I handled it correctly, and felt I couldn't win for being totally honest. Point is, I didn't have sex with either woman.

So after all that, when my wife and I did marry at 27 and 28, I had a big smile on my face. 🙃

This June 1, we celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary.

A good marriage is based on a balance of self sacrificial love (akin but not identical to Agape), Brotherly love, and Eros.

Of the three Eros is the least durable and requires the other two for renewal.

Brotherly love enables the couple to work together as one.

Sacrificial love enables the two people to make worship of God an integral part of the whole. This is the strongest wellspring of commitment.

If Eros is how I tell my mate that I love her, and how I expect her to tell me of her love for me, what happens when we are having a disagreement and not 'feeling it' and someone smiles at me (etc)? If I have forgotten that I love my wife (or if I never incorporated the stronger aspects of love into our life together, I may feel justified in looking elsewhere. Reconciliation becomes much more difficult.

But if Eros is how we celebrate our union, forgetting for the moment our foundation will not lead one as fast to the arms of someone else since there is no union started with the other there to celebrate.

Bob, it is uplifting to hear inspiring stories about patience and discipline, no matter the subject. Thank you for sharing. Belinda
