Spiritual Pack Rat Problems

Well I do have colourful rocks and gems that I keep in a pretty dish in my room, but they are not pets...!
I also have pretty shells on display.

Papers and cards and letters/diaries that I store away and don't look at are in boxes under my bed. I once shredded all my outdated library reading papers I wasn't going to read anymore. I think maybe I'll do the same for the money management course. Textbooks aren't any use if they are not being used.

The only thing is the paper shredder I had got jammed (kids loved the turning hand one so much they broke it) and the electric one I took to school disappeared. If I ever find it I'll have it back, the shredded paper is good for worms/compost/mulch.
Pet rocks do not sit well in a paper shredder.
(remember the childhood game of 'paper/rock/scissors')?

rtm3039 - Personals as in mainly unshared items (wearables, decor, my artwork/photography, meds, and such).
Living essentials are therefore shared and accessible like furniture, dishes, towels, and the like.
We gave away everything we had duplicates of, that was old, stained, torn, or faded.

Now my daughter has six large plastic bins in the garage filled with clothing and shoes from various career choices.
These are classic timeless pieces she feels she might need in the future for employment opportunities.
Even these bins have been dwindled down. I find them acceptable to store as she is only 33.

Renting a dumpster is a great way to go. Ive helped empty attics and garages filled with a lot of really gross stuff.
Memories are in our hearts. Ive sold quite a bit of jewelry, coins, and even guns. I give books away after reading them.
Clothing Im tired of I bring to the thrift store. The only thing I collect are art supplies, but I use them regularly.

I am generally a clean, and organized person. Yes my garage is cluttered with tools we use, a freezer, extra fridge,
camping gear, beach things, storage for household goods, and makeshift pantry shelving.
I have one corner set up with a table and a bunch of art supplies, ready to create when the mood strikes.

We also currently host strays Roll and her three kittens. Rock visits (Roll's brother), Benny does a back yard fly by (their dad),
and Jet (their mom) has not been seen in months. So the garage is still a shelter of sorts for these beautiful little creatures.
I would not know where to begin or how to decide. Our house is like a resting place for everything. A vintage typewriter from the 1880s that took me almost 15 years to find, a sword I had made in Germany, a grandfather clock from Belgium, a monster of a German "shank" that is 15 feet long and 10 feet high, our first flat screen TV that is at least 15 years old and is now one of my computer monitors, a massive collection of David Winter cottages, a cuckoo clock from the Black Forrest, and a bottle of Vulcanic sand from Cuba that I risked going to jail and causing an Interational incident to collect.

These "things" would not have the same meaning to others.

Ok, the sand story. I was stationed at Guantanamo Bay Cuba for about a year back in 2002. My mom wanted me to bring her some "black" sand from Cuba (We are Cubans). There is no black sand in Guantanamo Bay; however, there was some on a beach behind the fence that separated us from them. Having attended a "fence briefing," I knew which Cuban guard towers were manned and which were not. One night, I crawled under the fence, made a 30 - 40-foot sprint to the sand, got a jar full, and ran back across to the US side. :)

Why did people have pet rocks?
I understand marbles and knucklebones, but what can you do with a pet rock?

Hello Lanolin;

Pet Rocks
were invented (if you want to call it invented) by a guy named Gary Dahl in 1975. I didn't learn about Pet Rocks until 1978 and I personally thought it was invented by a woman who became a millionaire from the pet rocks. I was wrong.

So, what can you do with a Pet Rock? Nothing. It was a novelty item with no practical purpose except to display in your house.

Lots of cool treasures there brother.

We have somehow become both a temporary and then sometimes permanent resting place for friends and relatives treasures.

Examples are a large blue ceramic dolphin, a solid bronze 1/4 size statue of Christ carrying the body of the Roman centurion, someones handmade furniture and around 5,000 books!

I’ve got to ask you rtm3039
What is “…a German shank”?
Sounds like the thigh bone of a biblical giant.

Sorry, it's a shrunk. It's a very large cabinet kind of thing.

1975? That’s strange. I remember them being sold in the college bookstore around ‘69 or ‘70.
Maybe Gary Dahl had also invented a Pet Rock Time Machine or I was hallucinating at that time :p

Hello crossnote;

Yes, definitely 1975. But I didn't know about it until 1978 when my next door neighbor showed me their pet rock in the living room. While the rock was just sitting there doing nothing, I asked my friends about it and they gave me a brief history.

But the novelty only lasted about a year and the inventor became a millionaire. Check out Gary Dahl.

I thought it was strange because I could go outside and pick up a rock for free.

Guess I was hallucinating in '69. 👾👾👾🚀🚀👾👾👾
