The Old Path

The Old Path

The Old Path is our Church's television program that started in the Philippines.

There is a small award giving body called "Gawad Amerika" in the United States that gave the award "Most Informative Religious Program" to this show.

The official website of this tv program won the Most Popular Site for 6 consecutive years in the Philippine Web Awards.

The reason for its popularity is because of the segment "Ask Soriano, and the Bible will Answer." Soriano is our Church's presiding Minister.

I would like to share it to you folks. :smiley90:

How The Old Path started...

In 1980, The Old Path program was first aired over a local radio station DWWA 1260 KHz (in the Philippines, of course :) ), having only 30 minutes airtime. It was the beginning of Brother Eli’s massive propagation of the gospel over the airwaves.

The very title catches attention, as viewers find it intriguing yet unique. It was derived from the book of Jeremiah, in Chapter 16, Verse 6, where it is emphasized that the old path is the suggested road by the prophet of God for people seeking refuge for their weary souls.

Bro. Eli consistently answers, whenever the title is in question, that in these modern days where morality is disintegrating through modifications in lifestyle, walking back to the former way of living through the guidance of the Holy Scriptures is the only guaranteed manner not to get lost along the track. Filipino listeners were awed at his candor in preaching, which paved way for him to be known among many local households, prompting him to get a longer program time.

A month of airing passed, and Bro. Eli’s popularity reached the ears of a known radio host, Don Manolo Favis of DZBB 594 KHz, with a widely patronized program called “Dis (This) is Manolo and his GENIUS Family” (GENIUS stands for God Eternal News In Universal Salvation). Eventually, Bro. Eli became a regular panelist of Don Manolo’s program broadcast every Sunday night from 9:00pm to 12midnight.

The program of Don Manolo was a panel discussion of different preachers and religious representatives in the country. They consisted of Bert Valinton and Domingo Filomeno (7th Day Adventist Church), Manuel Manzanilla (Jehovah’s Witnesses), Agustin Tabuñar (Iglesia Espiritista), Onnie Santiago (Iglesia ng Dios), Jess Patricio (Roman Catholic), Tydee Toloui (Baha'i Faith), Miguel Inciong (Iglesia ng Espiritu Santo), Severino Taril (a devoted follower of Dr. Jose Rizal), Romulo Aldana, Resty Policarpio, Aldon Tagumpay, Rudy Natividad, a certain Mr. Khempis, among many others.

In its initial years, Don Manolo’s program was accommodating a complete set of panelists. The collision of beliefs and doctrines intensified when Bro. Eli joined the panel...

Recently, Bro. Eli had a discussion w/ an Assembly of God Pastor in South America. And in the audience, there was also another Assembly of God Pastor who debated w/ Bro. Eli about 3 months ago. This is his comment about the discussion.

To God be all the Glory.

The Old Path now in South America:

MCGI Launches New TV Channel: TV Verdade
Published: December 27, 2009

Pampanga, Philippines — The Members Church of God International launches a new television channel outside the Philippines to broadcast the Gospel across many different states in South and Central America.

TV Verdade or Truth TV in English started its test broadcast in December, 2009. The channel banners Bro. Eli's preaching in English and Portuguese for 24 hours, 7 days a week. Programs in Spanish are also to be aired soon.

Bro. Eliseo Soriano announced the big news to MCGI congregations gathered worldwide via live video streaming on the second day of their quarterly International Thanksgiving, December 25-27, 2009. The huge crowd gathered in Google Earth's biggest land mass in Luzon, the Ang Dating Daan (The Old Path) Convention Center in Apalit, Pampanga, cheered as the Presiding Minister showed the TV network's logo on big LED screens positioned across the Center.

Bro. Eli then informed the MCGI brethren that he also wants to set up broadcast of The Old Path in India, where 20.1% of the views on his internationally acclaimed blog, Esoriano.wordpress.com, come from. Bro. Eli was recently hailed the Most Educational to Follow in Mashable.com's 3rd Annual Open Wed Awards: Social Media Edition through his blog.

The Old Path, known in the Philippines as Ang Dating Daan — the longest-running religious program on Philippine television — is broadcast about 15 hours daily in the Philippines via UNTV and 24/7 worldwide via the Internet through its live streaming websites: Theoldpath.tv and Truthcaster.com. Bro. Eli's regular Bible Expositions, meanwhile, can also be watched live online through Justintv and Ustream. (Posted by: Jay Arellano)
