Hello Hopefull,
Hello Hopefull;
From what I read I would have to write a long respectful response to Mr. Hodges' article.
Christ was born without sin, could not be born with sin because Mary was conceived by the Holy Spirit, not flesh. The Scripture that supports this is in Matthew 1:18-25, 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.
Original sin is indeed in the Bible. God created a perfect world. But when we study Genesis 2:15-16, 15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
The sin nature is indeed in the Bible. Adam and Eve disobeyed God and sinned in the flesh, thus the sin nature. We are given a free choice, temptation, rebellion against God. Throughout the Old and New Testaments man and woman have a natural inclination to sin and the same goes today.
The distinction, then, is this. Christ was formed in Mary’s womb by the Holy Spirit, not by the seed of Adam, therefore He did not possess a sin nature.
As far as Jesus being insulated in the womb of Mary? Yes, though she was conceived by the Holy Spirit, Jesus birth was humanic, reference John 1:14, 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
God bless you, Hopefull, and thank you for sharing Thoughts on original sin and Christ's birth.
