True Prophets (preachers)

My take on it is that if there's someone out there who preaches something different than what we like or are used to, we tend to call them false prophets and if they are more closely aligned to what we've been taught we say they are true prophets. That may sound slightly cynical but it is consistent with what I've observed.

I do not ask you the next question to cause an argument but just to bring to light what our thinking is so do not take it personal, please.

How do you explain 1 Timothy 3:1-2...........
"This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop he desireth a good work. (2) A Bishop then must be blameless the husband of one wife....."

The word here "MAN" in the Greek is a personal noun meaning "male".
 
A "true preacher" would be one that preaches the truth. There have been thousands.
Prophets are a bit rarer. God has not seemed to have any need of "prophets" for some time.
Some of the saints have been known to prophesy, but even they did not call themselves prophets.

Hey major hows it going! :-) and I don't mind discussions. Though Joyce is a woman, the scripture does say he pours his spirit onto all flesh.... and because of that, I feel god empowers whomever He will. When you read the bible, you kinda spot what seems to be contradictions..but I think they need to be acknowledged as pieces that complete a whole...
not one side here,another there BC our minds can't grasp it...you know?

That's my thinking.

There is a Bible reason my dear sister why God says that He did not want woman to be in a position of power in the church. I would never argue this point with anyone, all I can do is post what the Scriptures say then it is up to the individual.

The Part of God pouring out His Spirit on all flesh is I believe in the book of Joel that you are referring to and is quoted in Acts 2. That is an event that has actually not taken place of yet so it really does not apply to this question.

Please look this up and see what you find out from others. Google it!

God has ordained that only men are to serve in positions of spiritual teaching authority in the church. This is not because men are necessarily better teachers, or because women are inferior or less intelligent (which is not the case). It is simply the way God designed the church to function. Men are to set the example in spiritual leadership—in their lives and through their words. Women are to take a less authoritative role. Women are encouraged to teach other women (Titus 2:3-5). The Bible also does not restrict women from teaching children. The only activity women are restricted from is teaching or having spiritual authority over men. This logically would preclude women from serving as pastors to men. This does not make women less important, by any means, but rather gives them a ministry focus more in agreement with God’s plan and His gifting of them.

Hey brother! Peace be with you! You mention in another post...I belive It was about Osteen's, you mention a tip that your pastor gave to you regarding the universal application of a sermon, I thougth was a great advice from a man of God! A few years ago, I was meditanding on same issue, preachers in our days, and I came up with a simple idea...If by a third sermon of "x" person I dont hear key words like...Jesus Christ, repetance, Our sins, the blood of Jesus, cross, Holy Spirit, ressurection, ..its time for me to move on!...God bless!

Yes, I love Joyce Meyer too.

Many will disagree but I believe Vassula Rydén is the real deal. I've read True Life in God, her messages are impressive and always in accordance with the Scriptures.

I'm not sure what you mean.

Rydén has inspired thousands around the world and even Pope Benedict is an admirer of hers.

She's definitely a controversial personality but that's hardly surprising: anyone who claims to speak directly with God is going to raise A LOT of controversy.

A false teacher doesn't teach a false gospel, they teach falsely (whilst knowing the truth).

Off the bat = 1. any preacher who smiles too much / abnormally. 2. Any preacher full of confidence, pride and arrogance / 'a know it all'.

Agreed. She definitely has a good testimony. I disagree with a lot of what she says, but that doesn't mean I can't respect / learn from her.

Do you believe that she speak directly to God in light of 1 Timothy 2:5........
"For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus".

If some speaks directly to God, aren't they doing exactly what Paul tells Timothy can not be done?

Looks to me like the church's you listed got this one right.
 
I've just read her wikipedia entry. Her life has been less than virtuous, in fact a typical modern woman.

In my opinion, one of the most damining statements in the article is:
None of her childhood or teenage mystical experiences resulted in a personal religious transformation, and Rydén went on to live a fairly secular life indifferent to religion.

That would lead me to believe that her experiences were not genuine, and thus here "revelations" now are not genuine.

further on in the article
indications of fantasizing all suggest that Vassula Ryden is not in touch with supernatural entities but is simply engaging in self-deception that in turn deceives the credulous. Her automatic writings therefore are not works of revelation but simply of pious imagination.

The Orthodox Church has condemned her "revelations", enough said.
