What Are Your Health Concerns?

Hello brothers and sisters;

This may be a sensitive question and if you feel uncomfortable sharing then I understand and will ask you to pray for others.

Do you have a health concern that we can pray for? I'll start first.

I have type II diabetes. I was diagnosed back in 1990. I was 33 years old and being an active ball player it was hard to swallow and accept. After the shock I got a grip and through my doctor's help in treating my diabetes I started taking meds on a daily basis, exercise and watch what I eat.

In my later years I have accepted that my type II diabetes can lead to a break down in my organs, affect my eyesight and cause other complications if I don't manage my health problem. By God's grace and great healing I have been able to manage my sugar level (A1C), my optometrist gave me a clean bill of health on my eye tests this year with another one following after the summer. I exercise weekly to work up a sweat.

I need prayer to maintain the discipline of managing my diabetes. The temptation of eating too many sweets, getting lazy to exercise and not wearing the proper glasses for my eyes are negative signs that could affect my later years.

In Jeremiah 33:6, 6 Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security. - ESV

In Jeremiah the people were suffering from destruction, no doubt health issues and death. In their city God promised to bring healing and good health. In this context God is the Great Healer. Managed or good health is prosperity. Security includes serving others physically besides spiritually.

God bless you all and thank you for allowing me to share my vulnerable condition with my health.

I would love to hear others so we can pray for your health no matter where you are.

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes just a month ago. My A1C was a 14+. I changed my diet and now use insulin and my monitor shows me that I am managing my blood sugar quite well. I give all the credit to God as I pray that He will continue to teach me how to deal with this situation. He gave me a recipe for chocolate chip cookies that only have 6 grams of carbohydrates and no sugar, I made these this past Saturday and they were great. I had a small cup of almond milk with them (added 9 grams of carbs). If you would like the recipe I would be happy to share it.

God bless you Robert!

May I say to you that I am in the very same situation!

I have been able to keep my AIC at about 6.7 but the diabetes have affected my vision in these last years. That is one of the reasons I had to retire.

I know exactly how you feel so when you pray know that I am sitting next to you.

God bless you, guys;

Hey Dave F.: 14+ points is very high! I believe God gave you a heads up when you went to your doctor. That's good that you brought your A1C down. Yes, please post here the recipe for the chocolate chip cookies. I'll definitely give it a shot.

Hey Major, Your A1C @ 6.7 is great! Mine is at 7.4. My doctor told me I'm doing good but can do better. My next eye exam is in the fall.

God bless you both and thank you for your prayers.

I go every quarter to an eye ophthalmologist. He removed my cataracts but warned me that I may have floaters. Boy was he right except that the floaters dont float, they just sit there!

I think I will modify the recipe a bit, although they turned out really good. I am posting what I actually did.
1 cup almond flour
¼ cup Splenda
1 stick of margarine (softened)
¼ cup 60% cacao dark chocolate chips
1 egg
Mix almond flour and Splenda then add chocolate chips,margarine, and egg and mix until dough forms (it will be wetter than normal cookie dough)
place on cookie sheet by rounded teaspoon
I baked them at 350° F for 26 mins. I would suggest baking at 400° for about 12 mins instead.
Let them cool for 5 mins then enjoy! I got 14 cookies from this recipe. Next time I think I will add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and double the ingredients
so I have cookies for a longer period of time!

Hey Major;

I've heard of floaters - spots in your vision. Can this reverse? During last year's exam my ophthalmologist noticed some spots in my eyes from diabetes. Not too serious but serious enough to watch my A1C. However, during my exam this year the spots were all gone.

My aunt who is 83 has macular degeneration. She is partially blind in one eye. She can still see but is not allowed to drive anymore. But she keeps her A1C at below 6.0.

Nope. I have been to 3 different eye surgeons. They all say the same thing. There is a chance it can be fixed but there is always a chance of total blindness in doing it.

I was born with almost no vision in one eye so it has been really debilitating.

Hm..

I have high blood pressure, but the meds keep it under control. I am now doing intermittent fasting (Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday), which does wonders for keeping AC1 down. My last physical was good and my next one is in late July. I do NOT like to go to the doctors, not at all!!!

Hello Ray;

I have to go in next Thursday end of the month just to have my blood pressure checked. I thought this was only done during my annual physical but it's better to be safe.

Sounds like you have a clean bill of health?

God bless you, brother.

Well, aside from the BP and a serious need to rid myself of a couple of "extra" pounds. I have a BP wrist measuring device to check my BP as often as I want. My issue appears to be that my BP is good, until I have to go to the doctor's. Then, it is always a little high. When I say that I do not like doctors, I really mean it. My stress goes up several notches, when I walk into their offices. My next visit is July 24th and I can already feel the stress.

I understand. I keep a health journal and write down daily my temperature, heart rate, Sp02, and blood-pressure. Every time I visit my doctor, my BP is a little extra high. Fortunately not so high as to warrant intervention. It's mental. ;)

Hello forgiven;

When we were in our 30s we talked about other things but today most of us have one thing of many things in common, our health.
The Rolling Stones had a song called Mother's Little Helper. It was suggestive but in the song was the line, "What a drag it is getting old"
