What happened to...?

I want to play audio books on a CD and tape player in the library but it doesn't work anymore...

Hello Lanolin;

Your post just reminded me. I used to research on micro phish at the library. I believe it may still exist.

microfiche. noun. mi·cro·fiche ˈmī-krō-ˌfēsh. -ˌfish. : a sheet of microfilm containing rows of images usually of printed pages.

yes but everything's being digitised so the microfilms may not be being made anymore. We were doing a huge project of digitising everything when internet became widespread, so there was a big retrospective cataloguing and archiving of everything. As daily newspapers are only supposed to last one day (new ones get published everyday!)

But I don't know if people had figured out how to save EVERY scrap of information. Some things it seems aren't worth saving, but the instinct is to preserve everything.

I took my own 'device' to school.

The device that plays CDs, tapes and Mp3.
It also has an FM radio.

These things don't all play at the same time though. I plug it into the wall and it takes 6 D batteries.

No phone though. The only thing I wish it would have is karaoke function.
Everyone else is on their i-phone 14s or 15s and I am on i-phone 0. lol

This thread made me laugh.

wind up windows in cars

Having felt the sting of being out of the loop of the modern world when once asked to open a window on my first driving lesson last year. ...
I cannot imagine keeping my grandchildren out of participating in todays society.

I can only imagine them in 40 years time ( if I am still alive) when their friends are reminiscing over the hearty worm soup they learned to cook from in college. And even though I will probably cry in the knowledge that I had it better, I wouldn't want them to miss it for anything.

corks in wine bottles - its all screw tops now
Not that I drink much wine but with a screw top at least you aren't forced to drink the entire bottle cos you can't seal it again after you opened it.

Got the new ipad for school but wouldn't connect to the internet so it was a bit useless.
Also I couldn't figure out the password until one kid said it was just 1234.

Of course!

I had to call the IT guy in to configure the ipad.

Twice some students had left their devices behind in the library, along with their hats and drink bottles and blazers. As most devices look the same and don't have their names on them, I can't really tell who's it is.

But this time I made sure I labelled the ipad clearly with LIBRARY in big letters.

Pogo sticks, hula hoops, slinkys, potato heads, pick-up-sticks, marbles, jacks, spinning tops, 45's, b/w TVs,
popsicles, Felix the Cat, Popeye...these were just some of my favorite things.🎶🎵

Hello crossnote;

Yep. I remember all those things. I showed my collection of record albums to my nephews and nieces and a Technics record player turntable and it seemed so primitive to them.

My late Grandpa bought me my first 45 RPM record in 1968, Tomorrow by the Strawberry Alarm Clock. lol!

Take a listen, brothers and sisters, it's still a pretty good song.

Our family didn't own a color TV until 1974. By then many households had color but it wasn't perfected. The TVs had a color adjustment knob and either the screen was too pink on pigmentation, green background, yellow, red or blue.

My mom used to buy us Archie Comic books every Friday. There was an athlete named Big Moose.
