Is Anyone Celebrating Passover?

Still haven't decided. I think the meaning of Easter (for us) is a good thing. I don't like all the paganism that goes with it. I've been wondering about this for years (along with Christmas) and still don't know what I think in the end. Does the Bible forbid us from celebrating these holidays?

Beware of False Gods
29 “When the Lord your God cuts off from before you the nations which you go to dispossess, and you displace them and dwell in their land, 30 take heed to yourself that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed from before you, and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods? I also will do likewise.’ 31 You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way; for every abomination to the Lord which He hates they have done to their gods; for they burn even their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.

32 “Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.

Does this apply to Christmas and Easter?

The egg hunt is at church. I have a wide age range of children.

I say go and enjoy your day with your children and remember the Lord and live as unto Him in all things.
Col 2:16 ¶ Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Well I think you probably already know what I think about this.

Taking your kids to an easter egg hunt is as equally pagan as hanging a wind chime, which has its origins in a pagan practice. If you spend time to trace everything you do back to its origins, there's going to be some degree of paganism in the majority of things somewhere along the way.

I'd suggest the plain reading of the passage you referred to is this: when you see other nations practicing abominations to worship their gods (like burning their children!) don't copy them.

When you take your kids on an easter egg hunt, they're not worshiping false gods. I seriously doubt they're even worshiping Jesus. They're just looking for chocolate. Kids are allowed to have innocent fun.

Also, I'm celebrating Passover this year. I celebrate what Jesus revealed about Passover, in exactly the same way I celebrate Yom Kippur: daily, and without ritual.

I'm not being cheeky or anything there. I'm actually making a determined effort to celebrate Passover with my life this year.

Sweet Pea, being a Christian isn't living a monastic life style, let's keep it simple, ...Jesus hung out with sinners, prostitutes and tax collectors, from what I have read I believe He would attend an egg hunt, it would be a big hoot for Him watching the precious children he had knit together in their mother's womb and I'm certain His eyes would be on the child that found the least number of eggs, I can just imagine Him bowing His head one way or another, making subtle gestures with His hands at His sides as to where to find some, I can hear Him laughing when the child finds the egg, ...Jesus loves to have fun!.

You've done your homework, your kids know the Truth, so let them have some fun, Jesus isn't going to judge them or you for having fun.

Also, I'm with Olivia on the film thing, they never portray the Truth, ...Jesus said if I be lifted up I will draw all men to me, the films show a man peacefully clothed hanging on a cross, rather than a naked body so shredded that it resembled hamburger writhing uncontrollably with it's head swollen 2-3 times it normal size, brutally nailed to a cross, the films do not stir my emotions, ...but the reality of what Jesus went through in my place, taking the punishment I so rightly deserver, ...every time I think about the cross and it's signification tears flood my eyes, uncontroled sobs well up from my gut and I immediately draw near to Him in worship and praise, ...thank you Jesus!

The Cross stil has it's same effect today and I'm on the salvation side of it, but we have an illustration of men that witnessed the raw, naked brutality of the Cross in Acts 2 who were not saved,

...you have taken and by lawless hands, crucifying Him, you put Him to death; Act 2:23

What was their response to the brutality of the Cross they had observed upon hearing the Gospel?

And hearing this, they were stabbed in the heart, and said to Peter and to the other apostles, Men, brothers, what shall we do? Act 2:37

And we read 3000 souls were saved that day.

If I be lifted up I will draw all men to Me, ...when protrayed correctly the Crucificaction of our Lord Jesus Christ is living and powerful, sharper than a two edged sword, able to seperate soul and spirit,

...Hollywood's version is just a means to gain filthy lucre!

Be blessed my dear brothers and sisters on this Lord's day,

Gene

Easter is the celebration of the risen Christ. Read Matthew 28 and rejoice in the risen Lord Jesus. For without this special event happening we would not be saved. Matthew 28:9 . The first words out of Jesus mouth was "Rejoice" Then in Matthew 28:10 HE said "Do not be afraid. Go tell my brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see ME. This is the true meaning of Easter, the resurrection. Hallelujah.!

A few things about Passover...it is the only feast we are told to "keep"...

The early church did celebrate the Lord's Table on this evening (celebrating His death till He comes) and the next day focused on the fact it was on this day portion of the Pascha that Christ was crucified...

The feast of first fruits always follows the 7th day Sabbath in the feast of Unleavened bread...so our next focus was always the feast of first fruits (not known as "Easter") to remember His resurrection...

It is not a legalistic thing but do this in remembrance of Him. Eggs or no eggs (children's entertainment) make the focus for your children Jesus and what He did for us...my household will remember Jesus on Passover Him being our Lamb but again it is not a legalistic thing, it is a matter of the heart!

What do you think of this article? It's written by a Christian woman married to a Jew who says Christians should not celebrate Passover?

http://www.religiondispatches.org/a...ns_should_not_host_their_own_passover_seders/

I feel like the argument she is making is all over the place.

"We become better people if we honor Jewish folks in their Jewishness."

This actually reminds me of a time when I was searching youtube for Mexican food recipes. I believe during that time I was looking for carne asada recipes more specifically. I came across this youtube channel, I can't remember the exact name, but it was something like "married to a mexican." Long story short, the recipe was awful.
