Why Are Some Christian People So Judgemental/rude/stuck Up?

First off I'd like to say I am a strong faithed Christian myself. Im 21 however and sometimes im not gonna lie ill post something un holy on facebook without even realizing it ... wether it be in a sentence I typed or what have you. I know my age shouldn't be an excuse but like 99% of the people in my age group dont care about God or religion or trying to be sin free. But Im still really good and have improved ALOT in my journey with Christ.... quit alcohol, weed, drugs, sex (by far the hardest part) swearing.....etc. But I still hang out with these people because they are still good people and as a Christian I think we should treat everyone with kindness and respect/love. Also their bad habits never have had an influence on me ... if my friends drink I never even get tempted at all. The only problem I have really is with girls since my hormones are through the roof at my age.I dont care if your a stripper I will still hang out with you and treat you with respect. Even Jesus hung out with sinners himself ... I forgot which passage but I remember reading it in the bible. Anyways lately I've been coming across a lot of rude and Judgmental Christians. This girl from my school she is a very righteous Russian Christian girl. Always posts very nice bible passages on her facebook statuses. So I message her and tell her how I like the things she post and how a lot of the things she says is eye opening. She didnt even reply lol. Thought maybe she was busy so like a month later she post this status and I message her and tell her how I agree ...etc and she still didnt reply .... I dont get that how are you not going to practice what you preach. Another girl at church around my age.. she always go to bible study and she seems really cool/nice. I go up to her the other day at church and she was giving me the cold shoulder the entire time so I basically just left.... Its like I try to be good and ditch my bad past and connect with good Christian people and they deny you basically. But my friends the ones who drink party and fornicate are so down to earth and nice. Sometimes you feel alone in this world.... I know Christ is always in my heart but it would be nice sometimes to have someone you can talk to about these things.

Well I can tell you that Jesus was witnessing to them not just hanging out with them because they were cool. Are you sharing the gospel with them or just enjoying their lifestyle?

A lot of my face book statuses are like.hers gospel stuff and what not. Its not just this one girl their are many other people this was just an example. I think a lot of them probably think im a bad person. Im covered in tattoos and look roided up (work out a lot) thats not really what your every day.Christian looks like. Maybe thats whats keeping them from talking with me? They should know not.to judge a book by its cover though.

Do they know who you hang out with? Do they look at your friends facebook pages? A lot of variables to consider. If I had a girl at that age and I was raising her to save herself for her husband I would be teaching her to be cautious of a guys intention.

Well Christianity 101 is judging all things and with...depth. So you should be accepted by any Christian church after a few visits when they can discern your heart. You need to try and look at things from their perspective too ;). Tattoos have never been a sign of Godliness.

I would be interested to see how you dress. A few at my church have tattoos but dress properly. No issues whatsoever!

Don't be deceived by the unsaved. Sinners love sinners / people who tolerate / approve of what they do. But they will stab you in the back. Un-Godliness / sin = Selfishness.

So I urge you to judge with more depth please.

IMHO, I don't think the problem is you, Alang. I'm thinking the girls you have approached are not used to someone with your moral fibre. Patience is a virtue. Your Russian friend online may come around if she sees you're consistent in your beliefs and behaviour. Same with the girl at your church. I applaud you for being so young (I know, that's a relative term) and can already see that the lifestyle your friends are living is not for you. I was *certainly* not in your shoes at 21. God didn't smack me upside the head until I was closer to 30.

I've found the judgmental and rude in every crowd, it just shows up in different places. Sores like that show more prominently on Christians since there's the hypocrisy factor, but it's a human problem more than a Christian one.

I have several Christian friends who, for whatever reason, don't have the Joe Christian look and they get the same kind of thing. Guilty until proven innocent.

Hang in there, man. Keep growing closer to the Lord, don't get discouraged and the good Christian relationships will come. "Seek first the kingdom of God and all of these things will be added unto you."

Until then you get to practice the same kind of mercy in both worlds. In one world you love and minister to you secular friends with out judging or adopting their debauchery. In the other you continue to look for fellowship with other believers without judging or adopting their fearful indifference and judgmentalism.

-
Let me throw in something slightly off-thread. Pray for and find some good fellowship with other Christian men your age. A lot of churches have basketball or soccer nights, men's retreats, work days whatever. It's a messy world we live in, and men have less reason to be nervous around a stranger. As you forge some good friends among men in the church, you will find many of the women who were already in their circle of friends will accept you by association.

annnnd one last shot for you to take or leave and then I really will let this post die:)

"I dont care if your a stripper I will still hang out with you and treat you with respect. Even Jesus hung out with sinners himself "

Amen. I love your heart, but keep in mind you're still more flawed than Jesus :) And while we know Jesus was willing to fellowship with prostitutes we have no evidence he was ever alone with them. If you're wise enough to acknowledge hormones are your hardest struggle, be wise enough to have a sober view of your own will power. Avoid one-on-one situations.

Keep fighting the good fight, friend.

Christians are very bad about thinking they are superior to everyone else. I know it's frustrating, but hang in there and stay deep in your Bible. You could be a great witness to those that the church would not even allow to enter the doors, and that makes you special. I don't have any tattoos (yet ;)) and I'm not all buff. I'd be weird for me just to walk up into a gym and ask some bodybuilder if he knows about Jesus. People have an easier time listening to people they think are like them, so don't ever think of those tattoos or muscles as a negative thing. It doesn't matter if the church folk accept you because if you lead others to Christ (others with tattoos and muscles) then you're church will be sitting with them no matter where you are.

And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" But when he heard it, he said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.' For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."
(Mat 9:10-13 ESV)

Well I can tell you that Jesus was witnessing to them not just hanging out with them because they were cool. Are you sharing the gospel with them or just enjoying their lifestyle?
He said that he's made major improvements, so whether he's actively telling them about Christ or not I'd still say that he's witnessing.

Christianity 101 is learning to judge?

I don't care what their perspective is. You don't dismiss people just because they have a sleeve or because they look like they live in the gym. Tattoos are awesome and can be a strong evangelism tool.

If I get a tattoo on my arm then I would have to cover it up for church? Is that what you're saying? I think it's one thing if you have a tattoo of a naked girl kissing another girl on your arm, but most tattoos I've seen shouldn't have to be covered just because you enter a building.

I get stabbed in the back by Christians more than anyone else. Come to think of it, I don't know if I've ever been stabbed in the back by an agnostic. Not saying it doesn't happen, but Christians are just as capable of being hateful and turning on you.

I agree. I came around early too, but I think that had to do with me being a cop and having the possibility of dying daily. That changes things in your life.

As I have said to you before, you need better discernment friend.

We do have to be discriminating about who we "hang" with. Jesus was known to associate with the ungodly, and was reviled for it, too. But His friends were His followers, those who had a love for Him.

Psalm 1:1-3 (NLT)
Oh, the joys of those who do not
follow the advice of the wicked,
or stand around with sinners,
or join in with mockers.
2 But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.
3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do.

Because I disagree with you? What part of what I said is incorrect?
You do not reason like a Christian. It's like you don't know the difference between saved and unsaved.

Don't trust Christians...trust the unsaved more..... Did you miss John 8:44? Did you read my full post?

Tattoos are for vanity and have a history of paganism. Do you even care about that?

Christianity 101 = avoid ALL appearance of evil / Do NOT stumble our brothers and sisters. Do you even care about them?

End times 101 = wrong = right and right = wrong. End times 101 = Sinners want to justify their sin / rebellion...the holy must just tolerate them.....

IQ > 10 = Unless you have a just and significant higher reason for getting a tattoo it is nothing but pride and vanity. Hardly Christian traits. Where is fear, respect, humility, holiness, self sacrificing?

Tell me... what tattoos do you have exactly? Lets judge them with some Christian common sense.

Unfortunately some Christians consider themselves to be "the righteousness of God". In other words they are holier than thou.

Instead of have a humble heart as Jesus thought us to have they tend to be egotistical.

You should always be humble and forgive them for being self centered. Pray that God will reveal their egoism to them.

Luke 14
7 When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable: 8 “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. 9 If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. 10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. 11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Come on brother, how come you are say hateful on Christians? People in general seem to stab people in the back. Of course non Christians will seem like your true friend or easier to get along with. They don't care what you do, where Christians care about how we live our lives. Do you attend church at all? I'm just concerned with your disgust with brothers and sisters in Christ.

What's unfortunate about it? We who know Christ are the righteousness of God in Christ! Do you not believe what God says about us? It's your choice. I happen to believe what God says over you.

Get over your haughty attitude. You have no concept of true humility.

But...I forgive you.

Does "reasoning like a christian" mean that I have to act like most Christians? If so, then no thanks. I would prefer a spot in heaven.

I don't trust people in general. I'm just saying that statistically, in my life, I have had more of a chance of being hurt by fellow Christians.

Tattoos mean different things to different people. Even if there were sinful, there is no reason to hide your sinful past in a place that is supposed to accept you.

I don't know what cha mean there, buddy. Do I care about my fellow Christians? Of course I do. I don't know where you'd get that idea.

Again, I don't know where you're getting the idea that I am accepting of sin. I'm accepting of people and I let God work on the sin in them.

How about to physically show my commitment to God and my wife? I'd only like one tattoo and it's a Bible verse. Like a permanent ring showing I am God's and my wife's.

I know people in general stab people in the back. I hold Christians to a higher standard. If you walk through a church and listen carefully to the words being spoken in private all you hear in Christians stabbing fellow Christians in the back. Spreading gossip and hate. I try a new church every once in a while, but then I decide, for my spiritual well being, that I am better off with my church being meeting up with my christian friends outside of church and talking with them about the Bible and God.

Why don't you try holding yourself to God's standard instead of judging other Christians? If all you see is the ugliness of people in church then maybe you are looking in the wrong direction for a church. Making decisions for what you think is your own well-being is a false value. We need to be a part of the local church for not only our own sake, but for others.

Truly, the person who thinks like you do should never expect to find a perfect church (there aren't any) because should he do so, it would no longer be perfect, would it?

I don't judge other Christians. They are sinners just like I am, but I do expect Christians to strive to be Christ like. You can just walk through churches and listen in to conversations to see that most people aren't trying. Church is just a social think for most people. When I find a church that teaches the Bible and have members that don't think we should give people who sin differently lashes until they come around then I'll make it my home church but so far I haven't found anything like that. Perhaps I should make my own church. Go ahead and cringe at the thought of that if you must.

You are judging wrongly and you don't even see it. Stop eavesdropping and you may find some people who are lovely to know. Waiting for a church that meets your likes may be the church who expects you to grow and change and to become more like Jesus, and to drop your critical view of people. You won't like it---will you stay?

Some people just need to bite the bullet and do what God is telling them to do.

I am fairly new here, and I don't quite have the grasp of the forum culture yet.

When a discussion goes personal and none of the person(s) involved are the OP, ought it to shift to PM perhaps?
